Animal Crossing: New Horizons - Nintendo Pulls Back The Curtain On The New Features

This morning, Nintendo pulled back the curtain on a ton of new features that players will experience during a Nintendo Direct. For long time fans of the series, there will be no surprise that Tom Nook is still out to be a high priced mortgage company. Lets take a look at all the new features coming for players when the game launches on 3/20/2020

  1. Unlike past games, you will be able to choose your island from a small selection of maps and you will be able to choose which hemisphere you live in. This will be nice for players as the seasons they will experience will be the seasons of the correct hemisphere. Time will also update like it would in the real world and will mirror real time. Different activities will also be available based on the season as well.

  2. Items are Do-It-Yourself (DIY). You will find recipes to build an item. Once learned, and the resources collected, you will be able to build them at the DIY workbench at the Resident Resource center, or on your own workbench once you learn the recipe for it.

  3. Players will receive a Nook Phone which will provide basic apps like a camera and map to start. New applications will be added to the phone as time progresses.

  4. Nook Miles are issued for making goals and can be used to pay off the cost of the “getaway package” and eventually be exchanged for in-game rewards.

  5. Players will be able to take Island Tours that will take them to mysterious islands where they can meet new people, find DIY materials, catch new bugs and fish, and take those found items back to your home island.

  6. Players will eventually be able to develop the land like taking down cliffs as well as pave paths, etc.

  7. Nook Link app is being developed for the Nintendo Online app. It will allow players to scan QR barcodes from New Leaf or Happy Home Designer and bring those items into New Horizons. You will also be able to voice chat with friends as well as use a chat feature to talk to them as well. Nook Link will launch at the time of the game launch.

  8. Up to 8 people will be able to live one island at a time. This is great for families who own one system.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons is shaping up to be the biggest Animal Crossing yet. It will be launching on 3/20/2020 for $59.99 on both the Nintendo E-Shop and physical cartridge. Nintendo will be launching an Animal Crossing: New Horizons themed Nintendo Switch 2.0 that will launch on 3/13/2020 for $299.99 alongside a themed carrying case for the Switch and Switch Lite that will retail for $24.99.
