Square Press Conference: Fan Service At It's Finest

Square Press Conference for E3 2019 has taken a prime spot at Monday 6PM PDT. While there have been quite some major news coming from the company within the previous month, people are expecting a lot more from Square Enix.

In the article, we will be highlighting everything Square Enix has to offer in its next gaming year.

Obviously the main focus that everyone (including all of us staff at Crashing Game Night) is curious about is the Final Fantasy VII Remake. What an opening to the start of the Square Press Conference. The first 30 minutes is dedicated to a LONG extensive in-depth look and gameplay of Final Fantasy VII Remake battle system and attention to detail. An extended trailer and the biggest hype moment so far, a live playable demo at the Square Enix booth at E3.

After the big bombshell, it then cuts to a lot of trailers for games that are in development and titles that people are looking forward to. The list of the trailers (including the Final Fantasy VII Remake) are as follows.

OVERALL THOUGHT

Intense. So many large projects are in the works, a lot of new things coming out and a couple remasters. I am not going to be shocked that Square will have a MASSIVE line and crowd at their booth this year. My biggest shock is that quite a solid block of their content will come out within a year. Final Fantasy VII Remake, March 3, 2020; Dying Light 2, Spring (April probably?) 2020; Avengers, May 15, 2020; Kingdom Hearts 3 DLC, Holiday 2019; Final Fantasy VIII Remaster, probably Holiday 2019. It is pumping out some heavy hitters and a lot of titles to take over the second half of 2019.

The entire time I could not take my eyes away from the screen with all the remasters and classic JRPG games that have made a large part of my gaming existence. To smash that much into about an hour long press conference, it made me think of the old PlayStation demo discs. A lot of it was just trailers, the only “demo” was of the Final Fantasy VII Remake (which I wouldn’t mind if they just kept playing). This felt like a massive compilation of things everyone really wanted to see and games that fans really wanted to see finally come to light. Square feels like it is giving its fans everything they asked for from Santa.

I am just glad that there weren’t any interruptions or any faults (see FFXIV Live Letter), and it was very little talking. I get that each game is their baby they have been working on for who knows how long, but we the player just want to see the explosions and the sentimental nostalgia with non-stop trailer demos and when we ourselves are going to play these amazing major titles. Square definitely did that and now we have a lot more to look forward to.

Just please Square… Don’t make us wait for a super major title for 5+ years again…
