Episode 309 - Microsoft and The Switch 2

On this episode of the podcast we discuss the January Playstation Plus games as well as the Switch 2 leaks and the role Xbox will play in the launch.

[00:00:07] And with that ladies and gentlemen, I want to welcome you to Crashing Game Night. My name is Matt Duario, your host. As always, we are joined by the be-need one, Gerard Barrera. How's it going my nerds? How you doing? It's another great day. What's up boys? How's it going? Just happy to be here. What's going on?

[00:00:30] And the baby face one is stuck with work. And we have our matrilege of services, the man with the college budget therapist couch. J-Rock! Jesus. The man, the myth, the legend, the lion's mane, Jason Bellidio. How's it going guys? How's it going? Man, they're gonna accept it. They're gonna like it.

[00:00:58] You know what? The professor himself helped dub the couch. So, you know what? We've got a nickname for the couch. Just saying. I accept it. I like it. Like I said, it just took time to grow on me. It grows on you. Yeah, it just took time to grow on me. It grows on you, man. It's artsy. I like it. It's different. Nothing wrong with that. I just don't know about the mustard color, but that's fine. Come on, man.

[00:01:28] It's wacky. That's why. Yeah, yeah. It's fun. It's all the rage right now. It's all the rage. All the rage. So, just want to say we were supposed to have a guest, a host of Spawn on Me, Khalif Adams. So, he has been, there's been having some internet issues and stuff and technical difficulties up at his house. So, we're gonna get him rescheduled for another night. But, we've got a bit to talk about.

[00:01:56] I'm sorry that both you and Khalif aren't here for this. But hopefully, you know, for those that are gonna be catching the show and stuff and watching this, we give you a little bit of distraction what's going on. You know, give you some laughs. Because really, our, you know, our thoughts from us go out to those that have been impacted by the fires there in California. Jason and Jerry, you guys are not far from it. No.

[00:02:24] You know, and I know you guys are probably getting a lot of the smoke and that nice campfire smell. But, you know, we've checked in with some of the folks that we know that are there. As of the other day, nobody, you know, that we know of, like the Final Fantasy VII crew, have had to evacuate. I know Khalif was getting, was prepping to evacuate.

[00:02:52] I haven't heard if, after anything like that. So, really, thoughts go out to them. I really hope they get those fires really put out quickly. You know, because that's devastating, right? I've never, I've never driven the PCH up there before. But I've seen pictures and it's gorgeous. And I've seen now pictures of it. And it's not, it's not great. It's insane.

[00:03:20] It's very, it's kind of hard to fathom. Like, I've driven those streets many a time. And all the, throughout my seven years working in film, like I was all over Los Angeles. And the parts that I've, that I've also seen the aftermath and the before and afters. It's just, it's so weird. Especially Malibu. Malibu is, that's just so crazy to me. That entire strip is gone.

[00:03:48] It's just, I hope everyone's doing okay. I hope, I hope they're getting through the relief lines and the, you know, the donation lines. I hope they're being safe and they're getting, everyone's getting through. And I hope everyone's getting some help and some of the items that they need, you know, to survive and to keep going. But this is, yeah, it's just, it's very surreal. And I hope everything, everybody's okay.

[00:04:17] I've checked on a few of my friends out there in LA that, that were there, that were somewhat close. Or, you know, that it was, you know, starting to reach, you know, I had a, one of the producers I used to work for. Or, um, uh, it lives in Woodland Hills and it was getting close to there. So, uh, I, I, yeah, I just hope everyone's doing okay still. And, um, uh, yeah, just pray for it.

[00:04:42] And I think that's the, I think that's the thing with this is, this one is not discriminant in any way. It is, it's taking out anybody's house. It doesn't matter. Like, it doesn't matter if they're an actor, a director or whatever. And, but the scary, the other scary thing is, is that they're like, people are getting caught starting fires. Yeah. I thought that was a joke. I thought, I thought that was like, no, no, but no. Like, so the guy that was arrested, he wasn't start.

[00:05:10] He had enough stuff on him to start it. And it looked like he was going to start a fire, but they stopped them in time. Yeah. Um, but yeah, there were other people caught in literally in downtown in like a little alley, like straight up starting a fire. And then the person that caught the video that got it on video, uh, literally caught the, the, the flames going even higher, catching a little tree or a tree next to it on fire started ablaze. Like it got even worse.

[00:05:37] Like, uh, yeah, it's, it's insane that like people are out of the woodwork for this. Like, it's just, it's yeah. Yeah. You know, and that's what, and that's a sad thing is so hopefully tonight we can give you a little bit of a distraction. Um, you know, provide you a little bit of a cheer to take a little bit of that stress away. So, um, before we get to the really big topic, which is probably going to take up the whole conversation tonight.

[00:06:02] Um, we did not get to talk about, um, the monthly games last week. Um, we had, you know, we had a professor on, we had a guest on. That was way more of a fun conversation. Oh yeah. Um, and he had a, a blast. So, um, so we've got the monthly games, uh, for January. We are doing suicide squad.

[00:06:32] Uh, need for speed, hot pursuit and the Stanley parable ultra deluxe. So, uh, to, you know, to, to quote Jason, you know, not, not every month are bangers. No, not every month. Uh, you know, uh, that's okay. Yeah, exactly. Like Jason says, it's okay. Um, I will say. Because too much curiosity has gone around that game for me. Uh, I think I might try suicide squad.

[00:06:59] I know I'm, I'm going to be disappointed, but I'm going to try it. I want, I just, I want to try it. Like I'm going to try it because it's free. Exactly. Like that's, that's my thing is because I've already been forewarned. I think we've been forewarned. Like, yeah, bro. Don't waste your time. Warner Brothers even said it tanked their year. Right? Yeah. And, and they're still coming out with, with, uh, more character. They just came out with Deathstroke. I think they're still putting out characters. I, yeah, I don't know.

[00:07:28] But, uh, yeah, you do you boo. That's all it is. You do. I'm just curious. I want to, I want to try it. And plus, uh, you know, the, at least the cinematics look pretty cool. Like at least they, you know, they did the cinematics pretty good, but I want, I want to try the game a little, at least. It's going to be bad. I mean, it's, I mean, like, these are all mid games and the standard parables been out for so long that it's, it's just like one of those.

[00:07:56] I'm going to actually, I was reading about it and I kind of want to try it. Like it seems intriguing. Um, which one Matt? Uh, Stanley parable. Yeah. It's a fun game. Like it, it has a few hours of play, but what kind of, what kind of game is that? It's one of the choose your adventure kind of games. So for, for those that are kind of just listening at home, here's the, the overview, the synopsis of the Stanley parable.

[00:08:25] Um, it's expanded re-imagining of the critically acclaimed award-winning indie game Stanley parable from 2013. Everything that was in the original is here preserved just like it was back in 2013. Uh, but, uh, the ultra deluxe edition also dramatically expands the world of the original game with new content, new choices and new secrets to uncover. The labyrinth has just gotten bigger. In addition, the game has been visually upgraded to reflect modern technology with faithfully preserving the tone of the original game.

[00:08:54] Uh, accessibility features have also been added to the game, including localization of in-world text, colorblind options and content warnings. And just as before, the impeccable voice work of Kevin Brighting will accompany you every step of the way. Um, and then, you know, hot pursuit remastered. Um, you know, it's need for speed. Like what more do you need? Yeah. You know? Yeah. Don't know. Uh, didn't know much about, I didn't do a lot of need for speed.

[00:09:24] So I don't really know how, where this one falls in the, in the line. It's not bad. It's like, it's up there. It's not the best, but it's up there. Okay. It's all franchise. It's like mid. It's like, okay. Yeah. I'm looking. I knew there were a couple that were coveted. Like what were the biggest? Most, most wanted is the, is the most out of the whole franchise. Was that PS2 or PS3? I remember that one. Uh, PS2. PS2. Yeah. And Xbox. That was popular.

[00:09:52] Um, and then, um, undercover is another good one. Okay. Um, you know, um, you know, for me when I played the original most wanted, I ran with a Chevy Cobalt the whole time, like soup that thing up so much. Really? But remember that was back when the Chevy Cobalt was actually a, a, a decent car back in the day, you know? Oh no. I'm just surprising. You didn't go for your, uh, your Subaru.

[00:10:22] So that's the thing is the WRX is not in a lot of the need for speed games. No, it's not. Oh, but like the rally and like the, like grand turismos, they would be in grand turismos. And it's in Forza, like, yeah, Forza, um, horizon and, um, just for us or motorsport. So, okay. You know? Um, but yes, if it's available, I am absolutely going with my WRX. Of course.

[00:10:49] Um, you know, I, I went into grand turismo, uh, the other day and actually took a side by side picture of the car I've got set up to mirror what kind of the look of my original 21 was with one that's now also red for my new car. New car. Nice. Um, you know, so it's, uh, you know, they don't have the, the 22 pluses in there.

[00:11:16] So I had to go with a 21, you know, the, the body style of like the 21s and make it red, you know, just kind of like the old past and, you know, uh, past and future type of a thing. Um, but yeah, sweet. So, uh, any of the way, Jason, are you going to try out any of these squad or try the remaster of Stanley parable? No, this is a, this is a past month.

[00:11:46] You know, like, yeah, I was waiting for that. Mm. Nah. Nah. Like, uh, you know, it's, it's, it's good that they have these months and you know, some people, they enjoy them. But, uh, for me, not even like need to speed can save this month for me. It is just, nope. Usually like, honestly, I would probably pass this month, but the, my curiosity is too, too much on the, on the, my curiosity.

[00:12:14] Like, I'm not even going to try to, not even going to try it. But yeah. Okay. I want to try it. Yeah. I want to try more with the disc space. That's how, that's how bad this week. Like this one, this one, this one. It's okay. It's okay. You know, like, I got plenty of backlog. Not even with the disc space. Yeah. I got plenty of backlog. I got plenty of like, you know, I gotta deal with, I gotta keep up with this and that. I'm like, you know, it's all right. It's all right. It's all right. Yeah.

[00:12:43] Yeah. It'll be, I want to try it, but at the same time as like, I've got enough of a backlog that I'm like, eh, you know. Yeah. Like for me, I kind of just want to, I want to go through the tutorial and just like see, experience some of the storyline. I'm not going to dive too deep into it, but yeah, I'm just curious to, I mean, is it that bad? I didn't like, I'm curious about the controls and everything. So I'm going to try it.

[00:13:11] I want to give it a, a chance, but I'm not going to dive deep into it. Like we've all said, we have our backlogs. I I'm working on my stuff too. So. Yeah. I mean, I'm working on horizon right now. So. Yeah. I'm still working on horizon and I, I took a little break. I just went through the tutorial and the, the beginning stages of, uh, I got cyberpunk punk, the, uh, um, ultimate edition. So, uh, my God, it's, it's, it's a completely different game. It looks amazing.

[00:13:41] It like, it works. It's like not glitchy or like, oh, it's great. Oh, it's so good. It's so good. And it's like every, the updates, they, it's true what they said about the updates, man, compared to like the first time I played, it's so much more vibrant. There's way more NPCs. Like you feel like you're in a city, not like you're running down a street and you see like four people, you know, you see a number of people, depending on the day it's busy or if

[00:14:11] it's at night, you know, it's a little brimy and stuff. So it's, it's feeling like a whole new game. Nice. But yeah. So speaking of things like that, let's, let's talk about the worst kept secret in the gaming industry the last couple of weeks in the Nintendo. Nintendo is like, damn, they just can't like, can we just get a, can we get a break?

[00:14:36] We want to, I am, you know, I didn't go in and grab screenshots of all the different stuff out there because honestly it's, we don't know what the actual final product is going to be, what it's going to look like. However, I think we have a pretty good idea based on CES because there was a couple of companies over there with third party joy cons and how they connect and everything. Like, Hey, what are these?

[00:15:02] Oh, these are so it from the pictures though, it is, it is bigger. Yeah. Most definitely. Um, I'm more excited for the joy cons, the joy cons being magnetic now instead of on rails. Um, my concern with that is how strong are those magnets? Cause I can just see like people like holding it. Like some people like actually hold it and I'm just thinking, are those going to hop off?

[00:15:31] Well, that's a good question, but I think there's, um, there were magnets, but there's also like a, uh, insert where it like kind of does kind of lock them. Cause there's a button for you to unlock it. And yeah. And so we all know how well that, I'm curious about that too. We all know how well that button works on our joy cons now though. Exactly. Like that's what I'm eager to see. Um, but the leak of what's going to be coming with it is the bigger, the bigger thing, right?

[00:15:59] We all knew the, the switch was coming at some point this year. I think the leaks have tip have forced Nintendo to basically change up their plans because the tentative rumor is, is that, um, Thursday is going to be the release video of just the hardware. So I mean anything with the games, the games is going to come a little bit later. Um, I heard a March, February is when they'll start announcing the games. I mean, but let's just be honest, right?

[00:16:28] We've been, we've been talking about, well, when are they going to launch it or just, you know, put it out there. Right. And I've said a couple of times I was pegged in January for at least the reveal. And then that, and then I think so. Yeah. And then some of us, when we would get the release of the console. Right. So let's see how close we are on that one. Right. Um, but we knew they had to get clear of the holidays, you know, because they did have some stuff that came out right there at the end.

[00:16:55] Um, but you've got a couple of things that is, that's been rumored to be launching at the same time, which is a Mario cart nine, uh, a new 3d Mario. So basically follow up to Mario Odyssey, which makes sense. Oh, okay. That makes sense. I mean, Mario launched, launched with, with the switch. So we haven't had anything since then.

[00:17:25] Um, uh, a game that we're about to lose Jared. And if he ever gets a switch to, and, uh, that is rumored to be red dead redemption two. Oh no, I won't play that on those. So that's that's PlayStation baby. That's the that's home. That's home. Yeah. Being that the switch to is supposed to be as powerful as a PS4 pro. Oh yeah. But that like, um, that's just my personal, like that's home. Like, yeah, yeah.

[00:17:53] I won't ever deviate from a PlayStation red dead. That's me. That's that's us. Okay. Yeah. Can we, uh, are we going to take personal bets on this one, Jay? Oh, you go right ahead, bro. No, no, I know. Yes. I know he's not gonna do it. I already know he's not gonna do it. Yeah. Because like every time, unless the switch to has some magical, like ability to make

[00:18:16] games in ultra ultra 4k, 10k, HDMI, like super mode, you know, all those letters and alphabets that they love using. Um, unless it's that, that good visually, it's, he's not going to go on it. Nope. What's the point? Well, why get it? Why get a dumbed down version of what you got already? Exactly. So we can fish on the go.

[00:18:43] No, no, no, that's not why the, that's why switch is separate. That's why on the go, I'll play Mario or Zelda or something. That's why I like, that's why I keep those separate. Yeah. Red dead is home at, at PlayStation with my, with my PlayStation. Yeah. Same with GTA. I will never, I will not deviate. I know that I could agree with you on that one because I don't, I don't see a switch switch ever being able to run GTA. You will melt its innards from that game.

[00:19:10] Um, but so there is the rumor and I've seen screenshots out there of not only there being a special edition for the said game. Um, but it launching for both PlayStation and switch to, and that's going to be the halo. Master. Yeah, I will. I will be, uh, I will be getting mad.

[00:19:34] I mean, I was really, I was really hoping to like, eventually maybe get an Xbox at some point just to have, cause like, you know, they're, they're not going to be around for very long, but. Uh, at this point, why? I'm going to get it. Yeah, exactly. Like if it's coming off of PlayStation, I'm going to, I'm going to get that console that for PlayStation. I mean, I mean, we've got collectors coming, Indy's coming out. Indy to say, you know, so at this point, you know, gears, uh, E day eventually is, uh, eventually. Yeah.

[00:20:03] It's eventually coming to PS5. I mean, yeah, I'll wait at this point. Microsoft is turning into a publisher and not a hardware manufacturer. Let's just be honest. Like I get it. They're still making hardware, which is good. Cause I, I, I also feel like they need to make do with that investment that they made in Activision. I, I also feel like if they focus on being a publisher, cause cause we just saw, um, I don't know if you guys just saw, they announced the new, their new controller.

[00:20:33] They redesigned their whole control. That wasn't, that wasn't Microsoft. It was actually a third party. Oh, was it a third party? Yes. If you watch the video, there's a third parties logo up in the top hand left-hand corner, but it is masterfully done. That looked beautiful, but also I kind of sparked an idea that like, if they are a pub, just a publisher, they can focus more way harder on, on their accessories and controllers and even like accessibility, um, controllers or things like that, where they can even

[00:21:03] like corner the market. I mean, more, um, more focus on it. They're doing it every, you know, they're doing it on fire sticks, you know, the X cloud. Um, you know, they're really pushing that Xbox anywhere. So why not just move off of console manufacturing, which we all know PlayStation Nintendo. Well, not necessarily Nintendo, but PlayStation and Xbox. A lot of times they're selling those things at a loss, you know, just to get people into them.

[00:21:32] Um, Nintendo never sells anything for loss, which I'm curious if the rumored price point of $400 is going to be accurate. If that thing is $400, take my money, take my money because it's a standalone switch right now is, is 300. So an extra a hundred bucks. You're getting something that is as powerful as a PS4 pro on the go. Oh yeah. Take my money. Especially for a newer console, the, the switch to a pitch at that price point.

[00:22:01] I, yeah, it's that that's the, I think that's smart marketing and, and of course they'll, they'll sell, they'll sell out. They'll sell it if the rumors are true and that there is going to be a halo edition switch to, I will probably buy it. Oh yeah. Oh, it's halo. I mean, yeah, I'm, I might, we'll see though. That'd be cool. But I, but that's the thing I won't buy. I'm not going to buy the, that on switch too.

[00:22:30] Oh, I'll, I'll get it on both. Probably PS I'll probably get a PS five first and foremost, but you'll just, you'll get the console, the, the halo edition console. No. So it's the switch to if the picture that I saw is, is accurate. It's the console with a skin that looks it's haloed up and everything. And it comes with the master chief collection all bundled up. And here's my thing is though, is I'm very particular about my special editions. Yeah.

[00:22:58] And I would rather wait for a Metroid. I want a Metroid prime for. I would, yeah, same. I would either do a Zelda or if they came out with a, something cool, I would wait for that too. And like, I'm keeping my old lead. I was going to ask you. I'm not getting rid of that either. If you, you know, with the switch to coming out, are you keeping your Zelda? I'm keeping it. That'll be the house. Like if anybody comes over, people can play, but not with my Zelda joy cons.

[00:23:25] Those are those I'll keep like away, but no, I waited too long for the, for that Zelda edition, the tears. I'm keeping it. I think for me, I'd switch over to the switch to being my primary and my animal crossing switch would go on display for me. Yeah. See something like that too, because I mean, let's be honest. I'm a junkie when it comes to animal crossing. It's like just stick a needle in me, you know, there we go. You know?

[00:23:55] I'm an addict. I'm a junkie. And I broke, I was able to stay away for, for a month. And then went right back. You took a little break, but you're back. It's okay. Yeah. I took a break. I understand. I'm right there with you. I take breaks from, you know, from horseback and hunting and fishing. I took down all my Christmas decorations. Oh my God. Oh, put everything back up in its place. You know, everything's back to normal.

[00:24:23] What one's the next, when's the next holiday? What's the next season? Easter, but I won't really decorate for Easter. Oh, okay. Because there's nothing really great for it. You know? So yeah, they call it bunny day, you know, but there's nothing really cool for it. Like you have for like Halloween and Christmas. So. Okay. I don't know. I'm, I'm just, I'm trying to debate on whether or not I put a, like a little boardwalk out

[00:24:52] on my beach, get like a Ferris wheel and shit and put that out on the beach, you know, some, um, like a little Santa Monica pier or something like that. Kind of something that I'd actually have a pier right there that I can put stuff by. And then I just have to move something. But anyways, um, so here's the thing though, is Halo and Microsoft, uh, flight simulator

[00:25:15] are both rumored to be coming to the switch to, um, and the, the PlayStation that's been corroborated by, um, the windows magazine, whichever one that is. Um, so here's, here's the deal is from Microsoft specifically, right? Is, I mean, we just touched on it briefly, but I mean, really your personal opinion though,

[00:25:43] is should Microsoft just say, Hey, we really need to put all our, all our chips in and go for the Xbox anywhere just to basically get this out there, switch to PlayStation PC onto fire sticks and Amazon fire TVs and all of that, and stop making consoles or should they do all of that plus still do consoles?

[00:26:10] Um, so I'm going to give you my, my, uh, strategic opinion and what I hope, uh, what I, what I would like to happen. Um, I think Microsoft is, uh, doing a bold move. Um, kind of, they're kind of separating themselves being the wanting to be everywhere, wanting to be mobile. You can, you can plug us in anywhere. You can use our accessories anywhere. Um, I think that's a bold move.

[00:26:39] Cause that's, that sets them apart from the physical consoles of switch to, and, and the PS five. Um, I think that can open doors for them since they don't have to have the, the hassle of worrying about selling their consoles and their games. They can focus on, you know, a little bit more on just their games and their accessories. What I would like to, what I would hope to happen is, uh, everything I just said, they

[00:27:05] focus on games and accessories, but eventually like come out with those limited edition consoles for those big games that I truly feel like people would buy. Um, but, but that's still a long shot. You just, you never know when it comes to that, but I would still like them to throw out a limited edition console here and there. But, um, I think they'll just focus on, uh, uh, uh, uh, games software and, and their accessories.

[00:27:34] But what do you guys think? Jason? Um, you know, they, they should just, it's good for them to be part of this, like, you know, the hardware sector. Um, it gives honestly, like, like I've been saying from day one, it gives the shooter people, uh, something to look forward to, you know, like as it's always been before. And I will say time and time again, if you have a family, you get Nintendo.

[00:28:04] If you like story and adventure, you get PlayStation. If you're like high pace, high action, you get Xbox. Uh, I will never stop saying that. Cause I still believe it to be true for now and forever. So I, I don't, I don't think they should back away from it. I think they should like take what they have right now and build upon that. What does Xbox lack right now?

[00:28:31] A lot of like a lot of AAA games, a lot of major league games, a lot of console exclusive games, which they said that they weren't going to do for two years. It's been past two years and I still don't have a, Oh my God, you got to get this game or, Oh my God, this makes me want to consider switching moment. You know what, what did they have before? Was it a red fall that fell, you know? I think the only one you've got is a perfect dark.

[00:28:59] Is it even released coming up? Oh yeah. It hasn't been released yet, but that's, that's the, but that's all I'm saying. It has some weight. They have the potential. They have a lot of good things, but they just execute it poorly, but they have such a big fan base because again, they are so good with the high action, high, high action, high shooter type games that you can't really touch them on that driving games kind of like up there as well. Forza.

[00:29:29] Oh, I'd say for the grand turismo. Oh yeah. It destroys it. You know, like even their secondary racing game, uh, horizon. It's fun. It's funny how those games like need for speed and Forza and, and grand turismo used to like kind of compete with each other, but really it's, it's funny how Forza really has. No, it dominates really now. It dominates really now. There is no comparison.

[00:29:53] And I mean, that's the strategy with GTA with, uh, with grand turismo, you know, doing the prologues. And so I think that was the worst things to do. Like come out with the full game. I think just wait and come out with the full game. Yeah. Um, I think for me where grand turismo, I just, I hate that it forces you to use specific cars. Like for certain races. Yeah.

[00:30:19] For certain races and you cannot progress the game without having that car beefed up. So it just takes a while. Like it's hard to earn money in the game and everything. And like, the only thing I really do in grand turismo right now is go in and use photo mode to take pictures of WRXs. But, um, you know, if I need money to change colors or add a part or two, like I'll go do a quick, easy race.

[00:30:46] That'll make me like 10 grand, go over to the shop and throw on like new rims or something. But in the end of the day, there's like no customization really. Yeah. Yeah. You get to customize your struts and your engine, stuff like that. But from the look of the car. They pull up more of the focus on like the inside, like where you can, you can tune and tweak all you want. But the look of the cars, man, they're basic. It is very, very basic. You can't do much. You can't change the different style of wings other than, Hey, here's your stock. Oh, you don't want the stock one?

[00:31:16] Take it off. Like you don't like the stock side skirts, take them off. Right. You don't get to actually really customize it. Um, and I think that's, you know, like, especially like Forza Horizon. I think it does a really good job of that where you can actually customize it a lot more. Um, but to your point though, I think for me is unfortunately I'm gonna have to say Microsoft as much as I want to say they need to get out of consoles specifically like the actual hardware, right?

[00:31:45] Not, not, uh, you know, doing the fire sticks and, uh, and the controllers and stuff, but the actual consoles. I think it's time for them to get out because they're pushing everything for Xbox anywhere. But the problem you have with that is the internet is not robust enough across the country to handle streaming games. We know that like there's times depending on how many people are on my network and I've got gigabit symmetrical.

[00:32:11] Um, I saw problems with xCloud and, and latency and stuff like that. So I think you still need to still depends on your connection and strength of the correct. And I think you still need consoles to kind of supplement your, your Xbox anywhere plans to, and to make sure you're, you're not losing your fan base. That's in like the rural parts of the country, right?

[00:32:37] That don't have access to high speed internet that's capable of doing the, you know, the streaming of the games. Right. Um, but at the same time is if you do go the Xbox anywhere route, patrol eggs and basket, then honestly, you could also get away with not doing the consoles and just put your game straight on the PS five. At launch, you know, you'd launch it on the switch to the PS five and the PC. There you go.

[00:33:04] Then you don't need a console anymore because let's, let's be honest. PlayStation and Nintendo are trouncing Xbox when it comes to hardware. Yeah. As far as the sales of the consoles go and have been for two generations now. So if you can see the console war specifically, which is a dumb thing, because it doesn't really exist anymore and do something like master thief and halo right to the PS five. I think that's going to be more beneficial. You're gonna have more money.

[00:33:33] It's the same things that we've argued with PlayStation games going PC. You know, it gives you more money for the studios to make better games. But I think something needs to happen. And I'm hoping with the switch to they come out with bangers. Right. Right from the get go. Yeah, they're not gonna be PS five games, but if they're going to be PS four pro equivalent, you come out with some banger titles. But as long as they're, yeah, as long as they're bangers like that, but we know Metroid's gonna, yeah. Metroid Mario.

[00:34:03] They don't have to even be bangers. They just have to be. Uh, just a strong startup line. Yeah. Well, no, so here's where. That's it. Here's where I say bangers though. And including like third party titles, right? Is because let's be fair. PlayStation hasn't been the same since Sean Layden left. And they're wanting to invest more in these live service games and stuff like that. And the only real new IP we know of that is coming is intergalactic.

[00:34:31] Everything else has really been for the most part, just let's do remakes and remasters. There's a few games out there that I'm like super interested in waiting for to come out. Like obviously intergalactic. Yeah. Crimson desert is one. I've been looking at a lot more. That's looking more and more interesting. Like, uh, Lord of the rings. Like, uh, uh, the, uh, uh, Oh God, what was that one with the, with the enemy?

[00:34:59] Um, uh, war of the ring or no, not war of the ring. The, it was on the console. It was on a PlayStation. Uh, you had war in the North. You've had, are you talking Lord of the rings? Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. But it was that single player with the, with the, um, Shadow of Mordor. Yeah. Shadow of Mordor. So it looks and feels like the shadow of Mordor, but it's open, like kind of like monster hunter or even like, even more.

[00:35:28] So it's, it's just, it looks way interesting. Uh, that, and there was a new vampire game that came out. Uh, a cinema came out today that looks really interesting too, but that's too good. But I think at the same point, those are third party though. You don't even have first party titles, you know? And I think that in and of itself is kind of a, an identity problem for PlayStation as well. Right. Is. I think you hit it right on the nose there.

[00:35:55] They're having an identity crisis where I think they need to kind of like take a step back and you know what, we need to go back to what we were. And that was storytelling and those kinds of character driven games. Yeah. It's, it's becoming, it isn't, but it is becoming that way. I, and yeah, I mean, it has been for a little while. And I think you look at, you got Sean Layton left, um, you know, and now. Shuhei is officially gone from PlayStation.

[00:36:26] So that, that old guard is gone. The old guard that heralded in the success that was the PS4 and started us with the PS5. Right. And we knew what was coming and now they're gone. Like, so now you have, you have Herman Hulse, which coming from gorilla. Yeah. He comes from the story driven side, but you can't like, I mean, come on.

[00:36:51] They gave Concord $400 million and that failed miserably like hell divers from the get go. Yeah. I mean, hell divers, you're making a movie out of it to try and drum up a little bit more, you know, want to play it, you know, from the fan base. But I think overall, no, it is. The fan base is, has gone bad. It's, it's been fluctuating, but it's still been a steady game. The movie announcement was kind of surprising.

[00:37:21] I think it's been done. That's the problem. Exactly. Like, but, but that's the thing we can see an updated starship troopers in, in a way. Like, like if they pay homage to the movie, that would be like, okay. Okay. Here's the thing is I'll go see it and I'll go pay money for it. If they put Casper Van Dien in it. Oh, that would be awesome. Yeah. You know, you give them a role in that. It's like, oh, look, it's starship troopers, but. But then, but yeah, them starting the whole movie thing. Like, I don't, I don't know.

[00:37:50] Like the, the choices of movies, it really comes down to like. Horizon. I get that's a, that's a no game. Yeah. Obviously that story. I mean, we even said it from day one when the, when the first, this game came out for PS4. Like this could be a movie, like no joke. Yeah. It would be great. I think for me is I have more faith in horizon from PlayStation studios, you know, their actual movie arm. Then. Then.

[00:38:19] The Zelda movie, which is being done last time I knew in conjunction with the studio, the team that did Morbius. Really? Yeah. I did not hear that. I thought. From what I like the last thing I heard about that, it was going to be another animated, like to, to go along with the Mario movie. I don't know if it's animated or if it's going to be live action, either one, but it's still the Morbius team. Yeah.

[00:38:49] That just, that's kind of sort of, you know, it's more of a time. It's more of a time. No, no, but stop it. Stop it. Don't put that out there. Oh man. So I don't know about that. That, that kind of worries me for that movie. And I got it. That sucks. Yeah. I don't know. I'll wait. I'll wait and be optimistic. Kind of.

[00:39:11] But so like going back to like the switch to right is I, I will buy that at launch. Absolutely. Well, yeah, for me, I will probably well, even if it wasn't for my kids, right? Just for me, I would absolutely still buy the switch to at launch. And this is something I've, I've talked about before is as much as I love PlayStation.

[00:39:35] I don't know if I'm going to get a PS six when that comes around because of the fact is what, what are they coming out with besides intergalactic? Like, yeah, we don't like, I'm not going to buy a console that is going to basically give me more essentially shovelware remasters. Like, okay, we're going to remaster horizon for the PS six. Okay. So I know that would be too much. Yeah. That would be, you know, we're going to remaster last. You know, it's going to happen, right? They're going to do until dawn as well.

[00:40:04] You know, it's, I don't know about that movie. Yeah. I'm going to check out the trailer. It dropped today, but I just don't know. And what's worse is, is the fact is like horizon specifically, like they didn't let you even carry your trophies over to the remaster. Like you had to start from scratch. Like, yeah, if you loaded up your, like a new game plus on it, guess what? A lot of your, a lot of the stuff that would have popped for trophies doesn't pop. So you have to start a new game.

[00:40:32] If you want to do another platinum on that game, which I think is kind of terrible because they set the precedence goes to Shishima Spider-Man, you know, Final Fantasy, all those games, you load in your old, your old save file and all your trophies unlock all the work that you've done, you know, versus having to go back and redo it. Don't get me wrong. I love horizon, but you know, and it's a great story.

[00:40:57] And I love the story on, on zero Dawn versus forbidden West way more, but just being forced to go back through the game again, you know, knowing that it, I've already got, I'm on 63 hours right now. I think for the remaster by the time I'm done, I'm going to be close to 80 because the way I'm doing everything, you know, I'm not going to go for a hundred percent on the collection side of things. Um, I'm almost there for the platinum.

[00:41:27] I've got four more trophies left and it's all game. Well, I'll just finish the story. You know, that's all that's left. Um, but like, I don't want to be force fed remasters. Like last of us, we got that game on PS3. We got a remaster for PS4. We got a remaster for PS5. And we know to Jason's point, it's going to be remastered for PS6, you know?

[00:41:51] So like, if you're going to continually just make games that are just rehashes of the past game and not bring out anything new. That's going to make you think twice about the console. I mean, the console is already expensive as it is. Like the next, the six is going to be at what? Six, $700 probably by the time you factor in inflation and everything. Like the switch has the intent. The Nintendo has always been my console.

[00:42:19] Like if you look at if you look at even my gaming clothes, I have more switch stuff or Nintendo stuff than I do PlayStation stuff. Collectibles, the you're kind of borderline between my Nintendo and my PlayStation stuff. But I mean, but at the end of the day, it's Nintendo is what brings joy a lot of the times. Right. As much as I love PlayStation. So I'm the polar opposite.

[00:42:46] I'm going to wait on the switch to because when it comes to Nintendo and the consoles, I kind of learned my lesson when when it comes to the launch. I'm going to wait until I see a limit, like a special edition or limited edition or whatever, or a collab. That's when I'll probably buy the switch to but the PS six I'll buy. I'm going to buy only because I'm a PlayStation fan and I will I will upgrade just to be ready.

[00:43:15] And yeah, I mean, I just I mean, I'm a console player. So let's be honest. Right. We didn't have to upgrade it. I mean, honestly, the getting the PS five at launches for all of us, with the exception of Jason. Jason waited, you know, is that I couldn't get one. I got lucky to get mine because I was going to wait, but I got very lucky.

[00:43:40] Oh, I got lucky in mind, too. But at the same time as we didn't have anything that was console specific until Ratchet and Clank came out like right. Right. Even then, like that was everything else was ported or or like PS4 and it just plays like that's it. So you didn't really need to upgrade it like I could have stayed with my PS4 Pro and been fine. You know, and then picked up the PS five later. So I think honestly, for me, it's we'll see what happens, but I will.

[00:44:09] So I am pretty certain depending on finances and what the launch point is, is I will drop and get a PS or a Switch to at launch, especially since it's supposed to be backwards compatible. I don't have to necessarily. Yeah. And that's another big thing, too. Like if they're going to have Switch two games, but I keep hearing no matter what you can play your old Switch games. I think it's going to be like that 3DS XL. Exactly.

[00:44:33] Yeah. It was the new 3DS XL where it played the the better enhanced games, but you could still play all your old ones, you know? Yeah. As long as that is a possibility, then it's going to be well worth it. You know, it's going to be obviously leaps and bounds better of getting something like that.

[00:44:51] I mean, the the whole point of it, though, is that Switch Nintendo has never gone without some sort of Mario games, some sort of Zelda in the works. And to a big extent, like a third, third normal Nintendo game, whether it be Pokemon or Metroid or.

[00:45:21] Or even Sonic at this point. So I'm sorry, go ahead, bud. No, there's not been that all there. All their launches have had those tried and true games of people that the games that everyone has literally been growing up on. So, I mean, you even if you don't like it, you still buy it. That's the big thing.

[00:45:43] You know, yes, they are great. And they have been the last the last few times and they can't they're unstoppable because of it. You know, they they do feel a little bit different. The premise is still the same. But, you know, you are getting a different game because there's one or two new abilities or like the play style is just a little bit different.

[00:46:12] So you're not like you're like, oh, my God, like this is the same game over and over the same game over and over, you know, or it's a remaster or no, it's I mean. How many times has Mario been around, you know, it's still the same same literal game. Just a few tweaks here, a few different variations. Yeah. No variations here and there. So you're going to get.

[00:46:39] Very close to what you're going to get again, but we've lived on it. We've we've grown up on it. They're starting to embrace indies now, which Nintendo is doing the other two Nintendo or Microsoft and Sony. They're kind of like pushing aside a little bit. They're like, wait, hold on. Slow roll. But Nintendo is full of brace. And that's what's making that one more popular, too.

[00:47:07] You know, like, of course, I want to get a thirty dollar indie game. I'm willing to spend twenty dollars, thirty dollars for an indie game. And it's on the switch. Sure. No problem. It's affordable, affordable, affordable. And then look how many indie games have been popping off this last year. Yeah. You know, I mean, game awards. We had like, I think like two of them almost the game of the year.

[00:47:30] Yeah. Yeah. So my question, my question to you is, since we have somewhat of an idea or a theory of what might come out with the switch to what is your take or your theory on. What Nintendo will be putting out now for the switch in order to like be comparable to the switch, what's coming for the switch to like, do you think they're still going to be coming out with like a triple A's or do you think they're going to.

[00:47:58] Oh, of course. OK, that they're going to do like they've done multiple times and they have the the overlap of like show, like have two different versions. Yeah. Whatever Zelda game, whatever Mario game there is, those are going to be released both on switch one, switch two. OK, it's going to be it's going to be no doubt. I can almost put money and guarantee it. Which game?

[00:48:27] Like it's whichever Zelda and Mario game. I think Mario specifically. So Mario, the Mario Odyssey successor. I think that is switch two exclusive. No, I think it's going to be both. What I think is going to be Mario Kart. I think Prime four will be a bridge game. Yeah. Prime four will be a bridge game. I don't Mario Odyssey. Mario Kart 9 will be a switch switch two exclusive.

[00:48:57] Yeah, not Mario, not Mario, not the. The OJ1. I don't know. I think. Yeah, maybe that's that's going to be that's quite the question to kind of. Because you can't alienate a lot of Mario that you can't alienate that. And for those that can't get a switch two at launch. The ones that love the hell out of Mario Kart. And you can definitely put them into like a hey, you need to buy the new one to buy the new Mario Kart. I was also like. That one is doable.

[00:49:25] I was also kind of thinking some of the rumors of still the rumors swirling that we're eventually still getting some of those HD remakes or remasters. I keep hearing Skyward Sword and Wind Waker. You know what? Coming pretty soon or, you know. Well, we already had the HD. We already had the HD of Skyward Sword, but we're still waiting on Twilight Princess and Wind Waker. Twilight Princess. That's what I mean by example. That's what I mean. Are we going to see it coming out for Switch? Or is it going to or are they going to wait?

[00:49:55] I'm just going to say this. Go screw yourself for bringing that back up. We've all healed from the fact is we got played all last year. I know. It was like. We were going to get it. We never did. It's time. It's coming. We so thought it was. Come on. It came and went. I know. Doug Bowser, just give them to us. But those the rumors are those rumors are swirling again to where like those going to be the last the last switch games coming out between like here and now for the switch to and the new line.

[00:50:25] But yeah, yeah, that'll be something to see because yeah, that'll be tough for me to buy the switch version or the switch to for if they come out. It'll all be switch to for me because I'll get the switch to anyways. Right. So since we didn't get to talk about it last week, Jason, what have you been playing and watching? No. God, what have I been? Oh, what's that show you recommended?

[00:50:54] It was when we were talking about animes and stuff. We're talking about like so what's the what's that one that you were recommending? The one that I was that was on Disney. That's on Disney. Dark Gathering. Dark Gathering. OK, yeah, it's it's it's I couldn't remember and I was like, damn it. I'm going to I want to watch an anime. It's got a little bit of a little horror motif to it. So it's kind of funny. And, you know, it's there's a little bit of spooks and ghosts and spirits and stuff like that.

[00:51:23] How was that again? But yeah, I mean, I've been watching that. What have I been watching? Blue Lock trying to keep up with that. Like that on pause over the holidays. Nothing, nothing really much to spend. Honestly, like just from playing here and there. One off games of like teamfight tactics.

[00:51:50] My friends want me to jump on a Marvel Rivals and I'm like, I've got a few people asking me to. Yeah, maybe I'll give it a shot. Maybe. Right on, Matt, what have you been playing? I'm not a time because my kids have taken over the PlayStation to play Lego Star Wars Skywalker saga. Oh, right on. Um, code dog is starting. Uh, has actually played through all nine movies. Nice.

[00:52:19] And finished nice. And now we're going to start watching the movies again. But, um, hi, uh, horizon remaster. Um, tonight I finished off the final, um, sun, sun crest trials up in the forbidden West or sorry in the frozen, frozen wild rather. Mm hmm. Um, that was a bitch and a half. Then just having to do it perfectly.

[00:52:46] You have to kill two scorchers, two frost bella backs, and then two frost claws within four and a half minutes. Is that for a, is that for a trophy? Yeah, it is. It's part of the frozen wild trophies. Um, so now I'm just going to go finish the game. I'm at level 60. I've got everything maxed out. I just need to find the one, one more power cell to go get the armor.

[00:53:08] Um, so I may just decide to load up my, my new game plus and equip the power armor and see if it just pops the trophy. So I don't have to finish. Oh, cool. But, um, there's that, like I said, jump back on my island. Um, but that is, it's really all about, I haven't done a ton of gaming. Um, you know, at night I've been actually just rewatching stuff.

[00:53:36] So, um, I've started going back through rookie. Oh, cool. On that. Um, cause the new season's coming on on that one. I want to catch up on it. So I started the old, uh, old that, um, watch through all the star Wars movies, including solo and rogue one. So I did all of those. I still like solo man. I thought that was a fun. I liked it. Yeah. And the fact that we get Darth Maul back for it.

[00:54:08] Um, what else have I been watching? That's about, it's really, oh, and I text you about it the other day. Uh, I started a rewatch on some of Jerry's telenovelas. So yeah. I watched the fast and furious movies. See, see what, once you go into it in that mentality, it's just fun. They're fun.

[00:54:31] I mean, yeah, they're fun anyways, but like a lot of the, like a few coworkers, uh, I'd like, dude, I said the same thing to them. A few coworkers is like, ah, man, it's just an overly done action movie. Like, no go into it as a telenovela. And they're like, what do you mean? Dude, let he dies. She comes back. Uh, Gal Gadot's character. She dies on a fricking run. I do want to watch. She comes back to life too. Dude. It's a telenovela. The long lost brother.

[00:55:00] That was nowhere to be found until this movie. John Cena. Like, yeah, it's great. I love it. I do want to try and find that. I might just rent it. Um, is better luck tomorrow because that's where the Han character originated is from better luck tomorrow. I heard that story. Yeah. A interview with song Kang is he was saying is that's where it started because that's from Justin Lin. He's, he actually directed it and was in it.

[00:55:26] Um, and that's where some of the characteristics carried over from the whole reason in the fantastic or in the fast and furious movies that he's actually snacking all the time. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Because in better luck tomorrow, he was always smoking. Yeah. And he, and he was conscious enough and said, Hey, these movies are going to gravitate teenagers and stuff to this movie. And he's like, I don't want to basically portray that image that smoking is super, super cool and you need to do it. So that's where the whole snacks came into play.

[00:55:57] So that's super cool. I like that. I'm a huge song Kang fan. Like I love him. And he has a very much a high appreciation for cars and stuff. So, um, and he's super cool with a lot of the fans and he goes to a lot of those like offbeat, like, like he goes to cars. Like car shows. Yeah. Yeah. And he's super cool from what I heard, like a lot of the people. All right. And Jerry, what you've been, I've been, I've been watching, I've been, uh, keeping up with a few shows as well.

[00:56:27] Uh, skeleton crew creature commandos skeleton crew. I've been watching that. Um, the new episode. And then, uh, yeah, I've been playing a remastered horizon as well. I'm trying to finish that up. And I, I started up cyberpunk ultimate edition. Uh, I went a completely different route. I've never went corpo. I went corpo this time and I'm going to, uh, go through the game that way and, and, uh, enjoy all the, the new perks.

[00:56:54] And it's a brand, it feels like a whole brand new game. I love it. So that's another thing. Another show to, um, secret level. They're like, what? Oh, highly recommend love secret level. Like somebody and they're like, Hey, you got to check out the mega man one. And I was like, I was just about to mention that had to have been one of my favorites. Oh dude. That needs to be a show, man. Yeah.

[00:57:18] The mega dude, it was so deep and so like off beat of like what Pac-Man was where I, yeah, I really enjoyed that one. Oh, I haven't seen the Pac-Man one, but like the mega man one, you know, like the mega man was great. That needs to be a show. It needs to be a show. It was seven minutes long. You immediately want to rewatch it. Yeah. It was awesome. Same with Sifu. And I have to say one of my other favorites were the, uh, space Marines. That was epic. That, that little short film.

[00:57:48] You just felt like it was an epic war movie already. It was so cool. But yeah. Yeah. So that's what I've been, uh, what I've been doing. Not a, not a ton. It's just been, we've been life in it. Yeah. I've honestly been out. Been working. I've been out driving. I, when I, when I get the time for it, I get out and I just go drive. Nice. That's what I've been doing a little bit more. I love my car. Anyways.

[00:58:14] Um, yeah, you, you laugh, but Hey, just wait, just wait until you get your, your, uh, forerunner. Oh yeah. Yeah. Then you'll, then you'll, you'll be right where I'm at with my, my Rex. So anyways. So, uh, for those that, you know, kind of hung out watching some of the show and stuff live here on Twitch. Um, like I said, uh, we'll get Khalif rescheduled, um, for a couple of weeks out here.

[00:58:42] Um, you know, I feel like we're sure drops to follow head over to crashing game night.com. Um, you know, I think it'll be kind of fitting if we can get him in here in a couple of weeks, because then it'll be like four years to the day when he was last on. And I think we're three episodes. Yeah. We're three weeks away and three episodes away from it literally being three, you know, uh, 200 episodes and four years since the last time he was on. Wow. So we'll, uh, I'll work to get them rescheduled.

[00:59:11] I'm going to tell him I'm trying to shoot for that couple of weeks out, but, um, anyways, um, just folks just with everything going on right now, especially with what's going on in LA. Um, just please, please be excellent to each other. That's right. All you nerds out there. Uh, this is the time to shine.

[00:59:35] This is the time to, to, to, uh, you know, put your money and, and, and, you know, to step up, we, uh, want to send out that same message, especially now. Uh, let's just, uh, try and help out, um, donate if you can, uh, volunteer if you can, um, or just, you know, uh, lend a helping hand or, or, uh, you know, just send your prayers out for those who, uh, who need the help.

[01:00:01] And, and, and, uh, especially from, from the fires in the Palisades and California. Let's just, uh, try to do and be better. And once again, just, uh, be safe out there, try and help and, uh, just spread more, more, uh, love and, and, and care out there. Cause, uh, you know, we need it, especially now.

[01:00:25] So, uh, be safe out there and I want to send it out to my boy, Jay Rock, Jay Bone with the, with the hippie couch to you, baby. Uh, yeah. I mean, honestly, what we've been saying before, it's going to be, I mean, we're not even, we're not even 30% on one of the fires, you know, the other ones barely just under 50%.

[01:00:51] So if you are out here in California, please stay safe, be careful, you know? Um, even though like we, the smoke isn't getting that far down south. Um, I still wear masks, uh, just for safety and health, uh, reasons, you know? Um, it's not, you don't visibly see it, but it's still there. All the dust, all the smoke, all the ash. I see it on my car.

[01:01:19] I don't know if it's on Jerry's car, but my car is just completely covered every day. So please just be careful out there. If you're closer there, please just stay inside, get an air purifier, get, um, close your windows, close your doors as much as possible. I know that they are starting to lift some bans on certain areas, lift some, uh, evacuation. Evacuation. Yeah. Um, as well as even letting people go to school as well.

[01:01:48] So just again, still be careful out there. Um, to all the frontline workers, you guys are doing a hell of a job. Um, you know, and you guys can only do so much. You guys can only do what you can do, you know, just stay safe out there, come back to your families. And stop flying drones. And stop. Yeah. Oh yeah. Yeah. Please just let them do their thing, you know, let them do the thing. Let them cook, man. Let them cook. Let them. Yeah. Let them cook. Cause I just want to follow up.

[01:02:15] Like it was the water scooper planes that they're using. One of them was taking down for almost a week because of an illegal drone flying in the flight path and it punched a hole straight in the wing. So they had to ground it so they could fix it. So like this stuff is critical. Yeah. So let them cook, let them do their thing. Let them try and save lives, save people's houses. Yeah. You know?

[01:02:43] So let them do all that goodness. And, uh, you know, like my boy, Theo is not around, so it's okay. Uh, but just, Hey, stay, just be careful and stay safe out there. You know, that's all it is. Honestly. And with that, we're going to close the show out. Like my boy Theo. I don't get to scream out my man. It's okay. But it's all right. It's okay. Until next time, 2GFN. Ta-ta for now, guys.

[01:03:13] Goodnight, everybody. Falola. Falola. You know. I was not falling. I was like, let's register. I was taking a train. Look at that. Thank you.
