Episode 311 - Breaking Down The Xbox Developer Direct 2025

On this episode of the podcast we breakdown the Xbox Developer Direct 2025 and discuss what could be next for Xbox.

[00:00:07] I want to welcome everybody to Crashing Game Night. My name is Matt Duero, your host. As always, I just want to say I love seeing little munchkin Jason over there in the corner when we do these things. It's great. It's kind of leaning back man like I'm just far away but I can literally reach out to my uh... That's your vibe but it's always been your vibe. You lay back you kick back bro. I kick back bro. Anyways, I feel like one of these days we need to like edit it to where they're like Jason's sitting on Jerry's shoulder or something.

[00:00:37] That would be funny. He's my little conscience. Don't tempt me. While drinking a beer like hey hey don't listen to him. I'll do both of you. Are you supposed to be that angel? I'll tell you one on each shoulder. Anyways, that ladies and gentlemen is uh... The beanieed one. Gerard Brewer wearing what looks like to be a... Grogu shirt. Yeah. It is.

[00:01:06] Of course. What's up my nerds? How's it going? How you doing? It looks a little worn. It almost looks like a gremlin. To be honest. You're not wrong. It's pretty close. The shirt's got some wear and tear. It's put some wear and tear on Grogu maybe. It looks like we got some like... Like dark crystal stuff going on in there too. I like it. I like it. But uh... Hey, how's it going? And then ladies and gentlemen, uh... Up in the top corner there is our resident Steve.

[00:01:34] Playing Minecraft. His new addiction. He's a babyface one, Theowalski. What's up y'all? I'm punching rocks as Jason would say. Punching. Which is harder than punching sand but... You know, every time I see anybody playing Minecraft, all I can think about is Brook and Jubal in the morning doing the first date or the second date updates. You're not wrong. Oh my God. Why is those? Every video has... They have gotten better and better. Like...

[00:02:03] Well, but the thing is though, that show ended five... They ended five years ago. Really? They did? I swore I just heard Jubal on the radio when I was in the car recently. Yeah, Jubal's around. He's got his own show now but Brook and Jubal ended five years ago. Oh, wow. I had no idea. That's so crazy. Every video that has the second date updates is people playing Minecraft. Yeah. Yeah, yeah. Oh, yeah. I love it. I freaking love those second updates. Yeah, those things are insane. And then, ladies and gentlemen,

[00:02:31] the man with the college budget psychiatrist couch. The man, the myth, the legend, the maitre d' of services, the linesman. He's not a fan of that. It's a sinful video. Alright, whatever. It's okay. How's it going guys? How's it going? You know, I lean back. But every time. But the funny thing, every intro. Every time. Like, you just, why you gotta throw it out there, bro? Like, it's the avant-garde couch. I just love it. The professor spoke.

[00:02:59] I mean, seriously, the professor spoke. Jesus. I mean... I still love it, dude. But your reaction every day, just like, really? Like... I mean, do you want me to start calling it the dice throwing couch? Because, I mean, Jerry did say he wanted to, you know, throw dice on it. You really could throw dice on the end of that couch. You can get a couple good games, baby. I mean... For some reason, I didn't picture you throwing dice as a game. That's right. It's multifaceted. It's a multifaceted couch. Fuzzy dice. I figured you were talking about like, fuzzy dice. Like, what?

[00:03:29] Why? Of course you would go dirty. You dirty... I was fuzzy dice dirty! The fuzzy dice? I mean, what the hell are you talking about, sir? Fuzzy dice from the 70s that go in the car? Oh, no, no, no. Why are you talking... What naughty shit are you into with fuzzy dice? All right. So we don't even need to go there. There you go. Reverse back to me. What the hell? Whoops. God dang. Anyways, how's everyone doing? Um...

[00:03:59] I got fuzzy dice on the... No, I'm just kidding. I'm just kidding. You know what? When we go... Okay, next trip out... We don't even know about your condition in your pants, sir. We're getting a pair of fuzzy dice for your rear view mirror. Ha ha ha! They'll go up. I know they will. They will. They will. I know you will. I want to, you know, first give a, you know, thoughts out to the folks there in LA. You guys got some rain. Thank God.

[00:04:28] And helped with the fires and stuff like that. Still going, too. We're still going, you know, it's... I heard that there's potential it causing more issues, potentially? Depending on where it was raining. Uh, yeah. Yeah, because now the... Because of all the ash, of all the debris, it's causing... Yep. It has a potential... Landslides and stuff? Landslides and stuff. Yeah, it's like... Same thing we deal with here, Theo, when we have those... Yeah, if it's not one thing, it's another. Like, it sucks, but...

[00:04:56] At least, as of when I checked it, it was 95% contained, 95% contained. That's what I saw, too. That's huge. That is huge. That is huge. You know? And so many, like, local residents and people around LA have donated so much and dedicated their time. So it's been... Like, they have really shown their character and helping each other out. That's exactly what we hope and what we want to continue to see. Yep.

[00:05:27] Yep. Yep. That's amazing. And for everybody else, hopefully, because we've got a lot of shenanigans going on in the US, and as we kind of joked around about, you don't need reality TV, just turn on American news. You know, let's... You know, we're gonna try and give you guys some laughs tonight, kind of give you a little bit of a distraction like we always do. It doesn't take away from some of the seriousness that has been going on the last week, and the people that have been directly impacted by it.

[00:05:58] You know, it's not good seeing some of the stuff we are. So, you know, I do, you know, want to talk about tonight. We usually talk predominantly PlayStation and Nintendo. But tonight we're actually going to give Xbox a little bit of time. Hey! You know, they actually deserve it. You know, they... They earned it. You know, we're... You know, they... This past week, we... They had the developer direct.

[00:06:28] And then the day after, Phil Spencer, head of the Xbox division, was on Gamertag Radio, which Danny Pena is part of the fan. We had him way back on his... You know, season... What? Middle of our first hundred episodes. Like, he was on early. Yeah. Yeah, whatever we want to call our seasons, whatever. It wasn't in the two hundred. Year two! He didn't... It wasn't even when we did... Well, like, we hadn't even broken a hundred yet when he was on. Let's put it that way. Yeah.

[00:06:58] But he... Phil Spencer was on with him and Paris. I recommend everybody going and checking out, especially if you're an Xbox fan. It was a great conversation with Phil. You know, and I'll bring it up here in a little bit. But I do want to, you know, talk about what we actually got to see. Now, granted, it was only four games that they talked about, but I think it's more getting into what they, you know, what everything is coming out with, right?

[00:07:27] So, with the developer direct, you know, they talked about Doom, South of Midnight, Expedition 33, and Ninja Gaiden. So, starting it off with Ninja Gaiden, right? From... What are you laughing at, Dale? This new generation is not ready. They thought Sekiro was hard. They thought Sekiro was hard. Oh my God! This generation ain't ready for Ninja Gaiden. They ain't ready, right? Oh my God! I know better.

[00:07:57] I'm not buying it, but I respect that game. I respect it. We all do. Yeah. Like, it all kicked our ass at some point in our gaming careers. These new gamers are not ready. I played the first one all of like five minutes. And it was done. Yeah. So, we had a couple things. So, they did an actual extensive interview with Team Ninja, who is doing a partnership with Platinum Games over this. It's this... Ninja Gaiden 4 is actually coming fall of this year.

[00:08:27] Which, we haven't heard anything from Xbox for a while on some of the games that are coming out of their studios. It's the first time I've ever heard of it coming out, yeah. Yeah. We know Perfect Dark is on its way. We know Gears of War is on its way, but we don't know dates. But this is going to be the first Ninja Gaiden in more than 10 years. Like, I didn't even think it's been... I didn't think it was that long since we had... I didn't know it was that long either. A Ninja Gaiden, right? You know, from Koei Tecmo and whatnot and Team Ninja.

[00:08:54] You've got Ryu Hayabusha, who we all know as part of this series. He will be returning and playing a major role in the game, but you're going to have a new protagonist. That's not just Ryu. So I think that's a big thing. And also, Duel Wielder. Yeah. That's interesting. Yeah. And I think... Here's the interesting part about this is the game's going to be available on Game Pass, the Xbox series, PC, and PS5.

[00:09:24] Oh, okay. So you're having an Xbox Game Studio game launching day and time on the PS5. The wall has been broken, man. Yep. The wall has been broken. I think part of that has to do with that it's still Koei Tecmo that's kind of being a little invested in it. You know? And we know Koei Tecmo puts out all their stuff on multi-platform. And then also too is you want to talk about not being ready. They're giving everybody a warm up because... Oh, she's black.

[00:09:54] Shadow dropped on the 23rd for Xbox and PlayStation. Yeah. That game, Ninja Gaiden, let's just be honest. I stopped playing the series because it kept kicking my ass back then. I knew better than to keep going with the next ones, but it is a great franchise, you know, with a deep history and a great story. It's continuing the Dark Dragon story from...

[00:10:19] If anything, I would say like this is kind of like the originator, like the original Sekiro. Like this was like back in the day, this was the game. Like if you can beat Ninja Gaiden, oh dude, okay, you were good. Yeah. Hardcore. Yeah. So yeah, very impressive. I saw both trailers. They looked great. The game looks beautiful. It looks absolutely beautiful.

[00:10:48] The anxiety and laughter was like... Right. Of just all the memories of, oh, I wasted money on that game. Just trauma. Yeah, just the trauma. Like why did I buy... I should have rented the game. It was... Ninja Gaiden was one of the few games around that era that gave people PTSD. Oh God. Let's just be honest. Just the way it was. Goddamn. I'm like, yeah, it's one of those few games that like made you... Like I'm sure everyone raged quit at someone. Oh, I did.

[00:11:18] Yeah. I admit it. Especially like this is just a taste like how brutal this game is. Like, especially when it comes to boss fights. Because it's not... Because here's the thing is like Sekiro is more about the timing for your blocks and... And technique and block. And technique and stuff. Ninja Gaiden is a straight up... It's just brutal. It's just mean to you. Because like say there's a boss that you like finally defeat because it's already difficult.

[00:11:47] But then if you don't know like it's final hit because it could be an explosion or like a swipe and if you don't block it and it hits you and you don't have enough health and you die, you have to do the whole boss fight all over again. Yeah. And that's like almost for every boss in the game. It's that... It's so brutal. Yeah. I don't... I don't miss it. I respect the hell out of that game.

[00:12:17] I respect it so much. And for the new generation? I know I'm gonna stay away. But... Welcome to health. Good luck. Yeah, to the new gen. Oh, good luck. I wanna say this though. Can't wait for the streams. Can't wait. For Team Ninja though, I have to say this, that game looks absolutely... It looks great. Gorgeous. Yeah. Um... So... You know, moving on. Uh... They showed more of South of Midnight from Compulsion Games. Uh...

[00:12:44] They were talking about their animation style and they were saying they were taking more of their style cues from stop motion animation. You know, the... Kinda like the Nightmare Before Christmas types and they did everything. They were kinda going that hand drawn look to it. So it looks really, really cool. Um... This one's coming out April 8th. Oh, wow. And...

[00:13:10] Unfortunately, so this is the one out of the four that is not gonna be launching on PS5. But it's gonna be Game Pass Series X and S and PC. Um... It looks... It looks phenomenal. Um... You can tell that they're really pouring their heart into it. Um... You should, cause it's gonna be one of their first hopefully good exclusive games. Like massive hits though from Compulsion. Like Compulsion's been around for a while, right? Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Then you've got, um...

[00:13:39] The other game they showed was Claire Obscure Expedition 33. Um... This one's launching April 24th of 2025. Um... Again, third game that we're seeing coming out this year from Xbox Game Studios. Not including... We already know Indiana Jones is, you know, we're gonna see that, um, for PS5 this year and whatnot. But... It's from Sandfall Interactive. Uh... This is their first real game. Um...

[00:14:08] It is turn-based RPG, Jay. Yeah. Interesting. Wow. Yeah. And... Cool enough. And it looks amazing. It has a feel, like for me, like seeing some of it, it feels like... Final Fantasy in terms of like your abilities and you have the ability trees and stuff like that. Combined with some of the mechanics from Lost Odyssey. Like, it feels like it's gonna be a great RPG. Oh, interesting.

[00:14:38] It is turn-based. I am actually really thinking about picking it up because it will be coming out on Game Pass, Xbox Series, X and S, PC, and PS5. Hmm. So, I actually might actually pick that one up because it does look really, really cool. Um... But that being said, I still have an immense backlog I need to freaking finish, which I'm starting to crack into a little bit. We'll talk about that later. But, um...

[00:15:07] You know, and then they had Doom the Dark Ages. That was such a badass trailer. Oh, interesting. It was. Oh, it looks... It's so good, bro. I actually have it pre-ordered. I like the idea just by the name. I am not... Oh, dude. Check out the trailer. Yeah. It's just like... It'll kind of take you back. It's an old school... It feels like old school, but looks amazing. And... Yeah. It's just badass, dude.

[00:15:36] I'm not a Doom fan. I never have been, right? But... I respect what it means to gaming history. Right? So, crazy enough for me, I don't... I'm the same. I don't have much of a history with Doom. Doom... I played the original computer game. Yeah. Like, but that's as far as like... I remember the weapons and I always thought it was super cool, but then I was like, oh, I kind of... It kind of faded away from me.

[00:16:03] Cause like, the other games that came out in early Xbox didn't do so well and I wasn't too keen on it. Kind of like the old Duke Nukem. Like, it was around that time when they all tried to have that resurgence. And then when they came out with these Dooms, they just look like on a whole new level. But yeah, Dark Ages looks... So let me take you to a blast from the past just real quick with that.

[00:16:28] So since you're familiar with the style of the original Doom, I didn't... I played this game before I played Doom. If you remember, X-Quest. Which was the first person Chex Quest. C-H-E-X. Chex Quest. So it was the serial and they released a game. Oh my God! Oh my God! It was first person shooter. Was it really?

[00:16:55] Yeah, your hero was armored in a style of Wolfenstein. I mean, let's be honest. At that point, right? Jay, at that point though, you had Doom, you had Wolfenstein, you had Star Wars Dark Forces. All had that same aesthetic. To Nukem. Yeah, but I mean like, I thought the Chex Quest was more of a... We'll pull it up here in a second. That's crazy. But anyways, yeah. Highly recommend it.

[00:17:24] Check out the trailer for Dark. It's so cool. It looks awesome. It looks so great. It's software. They've been known for that kind of over the top shenanigans with Doom. But it's coming out in May. And it's going to be on Game Pass, Xbox Series X and S, PC and PS5. Yeah. So you've got now... And this is where I wanted the rest of our discussion to go tonight. It's like, we're seeing the future of... Of Xbox.

[00:17:53] You know, kind of starting to really show itself. So in the back of my mind, I'm questioning is the fact that we haven't heard anything for a while is because they've been focusing on what they should be focusing on is on the games? Or is this going to be a repeat where they're like over promising? It's like, oh, we've got all these games coming out and they're just going to release like shit. Oh my God. Valid question.

[00:18:23] Theo? What? Chex Quest is on the Switch. Bro! Yes. No way. Hold on. Let me... I'll share my screen. Let's go back to Theo, I think. I think that's a valid question though, Theo. Yeah, going back to it. Yeah, I think they're going to actually have to start focusing on the games because they've learned that the games are the reason why people buy systems or they're the reason why they keep it going.

[00:18:50] I think part of it too was their not so great idea of releasing two systems at the same time. Oh my God. So, all right, Chex Quest. Let's look at this. It's currently available for download on the Nintendo Switch. It looks like it got an update. Like it got a little... It is Chex Quest HD, but... Oh my God. Oh wow. Chex Quest. Wow.

[00:19:21] Yeah, dude. Back in the day when we were... I did not know that. We were kids. We got free PC games in our... in our cereal. God. That's so funny. I do not remember that game. It's rated T for team. Oh my God. Okay, here's the snuff. This is... Yes. We're going to venture deep into the caverns of Bazoq using an array of zorching devices to send these nefarious foes back to their home dimension.

[00:19:48] Travel to the remote planet of Bazoq to free galactic citizens from the evil cereal eating phlemoids. Chex Quest HD is a modern multiplayer remake of the classic 1996 FPS adver game of the same name. The intergalactic federation of snacks outposts on the remote planet of Bazoq has been overrun by evil cereal eating creatures from another dimension.

[00:20:14] These slimy phlemoids have taken the citizens of Bazoq captive and it is up to you and the Chex Mix squad to free them. Thankfully, you have a handy array of zorching devices that can send these evaders back to their home dimension to succeed in your mission. You can play one of six in the squadron. There is single player and split screen multiplayer. And there's PVP. What the hell?

[00:20:41] Well, I don't remember PVP ever, but... Well, I mean, it's the HD version. Looking at the picture and having our knowledge now, like, can you imagine that being voiced over by Tim Allen as Buzz Lightyear? Oh my God. Oh my God. There's even this. Download in player. Still free. Still free. Still free. Now with multiplayer. Download on Steam. Yep.

[00:21:11] Yes. Oh my God. Oh my God. Chex books, comic book file available now. Wow. What the hell? They just introduced you guys into a whole new world. Oh my God. I got you. Oh, jeez. I think this is the original trailer too. Oh my God. Yes. The rabbit hole we just went down. You're welcome.

[00:21:42] Oh, you're welcome. That's what I'm here for. I think I still have some cheddar Chex mixed down in the pantry right now. I might have to go. But... Wow. I did not know they even did this. I don't know how to feel about this. Well, they really took me like... It was like right around when I was like 10 or 11, because I know I lived here. When I had it. He's got a little taser.

[00:22:12] Mm-hmm. Oh, and a spoon. A spoon. Does he have a spork? Oh, those graphics are way better than the original too. Yeah. It's HD, I would hope so. I was going to say, but yeah, that's way better than when it was released. Oh my word. I think that is a spork. Well, ladies and gentlemen, we've officially gone off rails for tonight.

[00:22:42] Go down, go down. Wow. Dex Quest free hunts. Dex Quest. Oh my Lord. Theo, what have you all done? What have you done to us? I don't know. I mean, I feel like it tells what kind of games I'm into. I mean, weren't you playing like Cat Island or whatever it was? Cat Quest. Cat Quest. I really like Quest games, man. I feel a theme coming on.

[00:23:14] Cat Quest. Chex Quest. All right. So let's get back on topic, which is Xbox for once. But no, so Phil Spencer was talking about, he's looking forward to working with Nintendo to bring stuff out on Switch 2 when that launches. We all know that it is long rumored that we are getting the Halo Master Chief Collection and Flight Simulator.

[00:23:42] I will, that's my debate. I don't know if I'll get Master Chief Collection on the PS5 or if I'll get it on the Switch 2 when it comes out. Maybe I'll get both. You know? It's, I love Halo. Like, Halo 1, 2, 3, you know, and Reach. Those were, those were my favorite. I, I, I have a, I personally, I have a shout out to not like FPS on Switch.

[00:24:11] I will be honest on that. Not like first person shooters on, on Switch. Well, okay. Well, playing it undocked specifically. Undocked. On the current Switch. I mean, come on. Apex Legends looks like crap on it. Well, that's surprising. You know? I mean, I did try it. It was free. It was an online game though. I mean, yeah, it is. And the, just switch couldn't handle it. So, but I want to start with Mr. Exclusive on this one.

[00:24:40] So, Jason, how do, how do you feel like when we talked about this, that there should have been more exclusives for the Xbox series when it launched. But how do you feel about them now actually moving, moving more to being more that, that publisher and releasing their games across multiple platforms? I mean, like you, like I said earlier, I don't, I wasn't, I'm not a fan of giving out to systems for this generation. You know? Like, it didn't make sense.

[00:25:09] I mean, monetarily and economically, it made sense. But at the same time, if you're not pushing out any games, what's the point? Like I said, we were, we wanted to wait those two years or so. Okay. Let's check it out. Let's wait it out. I know the first exclusive that Xbox got was just, just Dune for failure. And then they tried again, another fail.

[00:25:35] And it's like, okay, so you've had this for now for two years, two plus years. And you're still waiting for the bang, like the major league banger of an exclusive. And I mean, it might get one now, but it's a little too late, you know, it's a little too late where you needed this maybe three years ago.

[00:26:01] And if you had this three years ago, it probably would push more individual titles. But now they kind of have to recoup those losses. And Ninja Gaiden, yes, it was on the PlayStation and it went to Xbox and Xbox had those rights for a long time. And now it's coming back to PlayStation because they just can't afford to, if it fails, at least

[00:26:27] they tried on multiple platforms to get it to, to be valid. Yes. There's a huge following for Ninja Gaiden fans. I know both of you guys were like, you know, ready to go pick one up, you know, get the PTSD back in order. Oh, I'm not buying it. I know better. I know. But as I'm just saying, like they got you before then the curiosity is going to set in once it gets like, oh, man. Oh, see, I was lucky.

[00:26:56] I didn't, I was, I didn't pull a Jerry. I didn't buy it because I was working at Blockbuster at the time. I got free rentals. So I just rented the fucker. Like it's just, it's just, you start to get that little like itch and like little FOMO. So it's creeping in and you're like, ah, you know what? I'm gonna get it, you know? And just wait for the promotion for a free month of X pass and then you'll do it. Yeah, that's true too.

[00:27:21] So, I mean, but it's finally getting it like something out there and I feel it's just a little too late. So now they have to just start bridging that gap. I mean, the gap will start getting bridged with multi-platform games. Soon they're gonna have, like, you know, in the soon future I feel they're gonna start having a cross-platform with both Xbox and PlayStation.

[00:27:46] You know, it's soon, but not in the, not this generation, not this generation of console. I say. But what you're saying is we're starting to see the beginning. Stay beginning at the end. The beginning of the end. Honestly. Of the console. Yeah. The console. Let me, let's just be honest. Console wars died long ago. It's just been perpetuated by the fanboys this whole time.

[00:28:12] Um, I, I think there's for me as I look at it as yes, they're doing a couple of exclusives. Right. But I think by doing like a timed exclusivity, like Indiana Jones, I think probably south of midnight is probably gonna be the same way. But I think by launching your, your games on multiple platforms, one, it gives you more revenue for your studios. Like I've been advocating that for, for PlayStation. Once they started moving things to PC, it's like, do it all.

[00:28:37] Like start getting more money for Sony Santa Monica, you know, San Diego studio, Insomniac, all of them to, you know, produce their games. You know, it does nothing but help your company. But I think honestly, the second Xbox bought Activision specifically, I think that's where they should have moved more into the publishing route. You know, which is, I think you're starting to see that, you know, they're becoming a publisher by putting these games on multiple platforms.

[00:29:05] Um, you know, and I think that sometimes they just don't have the, the console base. I mean, like take for example, like, let's be honest. It's you know, how many consoles a switch have millions, PlayStation millions. And then you have the Xbox series, the white, you have the white one, the speaker box, the white one that can't play all the black games. It's like, come on, dude. Like, I mean, they can play it, but at what cost?

[00:29:35] You know, you, Oh, I need to have honestly, like you're saying, this probably should be like, just keep the mini fridge and that's it. Like it's just, just get, I mean, I get it. Stop it. It was, it was, it was a great idea in concept. It was a great, like in between, but now it's a completely stupid and obsolete.

[00:29:56] Well, in this, but in this economy right now, I think it's got its place though, especially since now it was announced today that they are going to be putting a 25% tariff on all super conductors coming into the States, which means still like all the consoles are going to go up. And price now look, okay. All the gallows, Nintendo, great example.

[00:30:17] They, every release, they always have, let's say 80, 90%, 80% of their games be for the previous console and the next console, you know? And then you have that time bridge for like, I mean, they do it for what a year or so. And then you have, and then they're like, okay, you know, all you have to do is just save up like a dollar a day.

[00:30:42] And then you're already there. Boom. You have the next console next year. And then what happens? I mean, but that means we have to tell Jerry to stop, stop Starbucks every day. Not, you know, he's going to give up his card at Starbucks. You're one to talk. You're the one. I know. I know.

[00:30:57] You know what? Hold on. I've had Starbucks once in the last month, maybe two, because of the fact is they raise the price of the Trenta teas. Now it's $5 for one of those. Yeah. Big whoop. I can go to McDonald's and get one for a buck. I still feel like that's like the cheapest drink in the entire menu. Oh, on their menu? Absolutely. Judge me. Judge me. I went to Starbucks this morning.

[00:31:30] But when I can go to... You and millions of others, so you're fine. Get a large for $1.30. Yeah, I'm going to go get a large for $1.30. You judge me. I mean, Jason, you bring up a valid point. You've got, you know, if you save up for a dollar a day, you pretty much... God, why does it feel like one of those old commercials where it's like for $1 a day you can save the starving kids in Africa? Commercials. Remember all those little ones that used to come on late at night? Yes. You know, 10 cents a day or whatever it was.

[00:31:59] Sally Struthers used to... You always had that song. In the eyes of the angels. Oh my God. Yes. And it was Sally Struthers doing like the voiceover. But no, you save up $1 a day. Yeah, you'd be able to save up for a good portion of a Switch 2. Chance of that you're going to probably, with the prices rumored, is we're looking at like $4.50 and $5.00. Really? So...

[00:32:27] Let's just say on the upper $500.00. Even if you... Well, that $500.00 is rumored to be the Mario Kart 9 bundle. Sure. Sure. Whatever. Like, but just for the situation. Even if it's $500.00. You save a dollar a day. That's $365.00. And then you are able to still play the old games because they aren't going to release any like massive games until the next year. And Nintendo always does it.

[00:32:57] They always have the bridge year or bridge year and a half, two years at most. Breath of the Wild. Two years, like year and a half usually at most. So even if you do, you have enough time to wait and get that next console. Yeah. You know, Xbox. Oh, you know, you can buy it. You can buy this for $300.00 now and then wait and then get this one for a $600.00. Why? Why not just sit there and be like, hey, you know what?

[00:33:25] Let me get the $601.00 one now. You know, there's no need for that. Yeah. That's the stupid small one. How did you die, Theo? It's Minecraft. Skeleton cornered me. It's right there. Unnecessary. Interesting. So... With this though, let me ask this. Should... I mean, they've already been rumored to be working on the next Xbox.

[00:33:54] Should they make that the last one and just kind of just focus on their gaming everywhere mantra, which is cloud and, you know, what consoles are still out there? Or should they still try and do a console? Well, I thought... Wasn't that the general consensus that they're planning on doing one more and then that's it? Or did they leave it open-ended? I think it's kind of open-ended because they are talking about a Xbox console that's portable, much like the Switch.

[00:34:24] Oh, okay. So that's rumored to be in development. That would take more R&D and all that. Yeah. I'm for it. I think... I really think if they go one more console, I think they should focus on developing and just doing their games. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, they've already kind of dipped their toe in kind of ending the console wars or whatever. So I just say, yeah, do it.

[00:34:54] Do your one more console and then just focus on your games and shell out good content. Make good projects. This is kind of making me feel like the PS3 generation. Why? Where the PS3 came out, right? You didn't have a lot of games for it because nobody could program for the thing because of how it was architected. And that's what allowed the Xbox to really, the 360 and everything to really keep going strong even during the PS3 generation.

[00:35:23] Then towards the end of the generation, you started getting some really great games because... Yeah. But the Xbox, the 360 was a necessity because even that year, I mean, that console had their problems, of course. Red Ring. Right. Which that was, that's a good documentary watch. There's the Xbox documentary about... Yeah, that was. That was really good. Actually, they were like really honest with themselves going, we fucked up.

[00:35:52] Like, they were like, we really screwed up. It was insane. Yeah. You know, here's my thing is, it's like, I look at it now, you look at Xbox starting to come out with more and more games. You're finally getting stuff that was probably started during COVID. You know, we're finally seeing those games coming out, which all the games they showed off during the developer direct are all absolutely gorgeous. And then you look at PlayStation. We talked about this. There's, it seems like they've got a crisis of conscience or, you know, of identity right

[00:36:22] now because all they're doing is remakes. We know that there is Intergalactic, right? From Naughty Dog. We know Insomniac's working on Wolverine, but that's it. There's like nothing that they're even... What's coming out in 2025 for PlayStation, right? It's like, it's like they almost are just like, well, we sold all these consoles so it doesn't matter. People are just going to play whatever games are out there and we don't need anything

[00:36:52] else right now. I don't know. I mean, like those are some massive projects and they take a lot of people and with all like, granted, they did it to themselves with all the layoffs and everything, but still like, well, and they keep starting projects and canceling them. But, you know, we don't know what's coming from Sony Santa Monica. We know San Diego studio and will be 25 got an, you know, the cover athletes got announced for it.

[00:37:24] And bend. We know they had a project that they were working on. It's now canceled. Nobody knows what's going to happen with. Nobody's going to knows what happened. It's going to happen with blue point. You know, with Bungie. They've got two games. They got they got Marathon. They've got destiny and there's rumor of this. They're just doing a whole brand new IP. Yep. And moving away from destiny. Which I yeah, because they're going to be done after I think it's the next two years.

[00:37:54] They'll be officially done. I hate to say it. I think it's time that they move away from destiny. Yeah. Well, yeah, it makes sense. You know, it's been played out. Yeah. And like given their timeline that they've given like I think that's a thing they understand to that. You know, it's it's about time. Like I know it's exciting. They have that plan, though, that they're like working on. Yeah, that they just have plans on working on something new. So ultimately, oh, do we?

[00:38:23] I mean, the consensus is Jerry. I know you kind of talked about it is going one more console being done, but should should they just I want to put this to you is should they just swing for the fences now while PlayStation is having arguably last year and this year down years because we don't. I mean, intergalactic. We're only assuming it's coming out. Should we just should Xbox just start releasing their games? All of it on PlayStation.

[00:38:48] Oh, I mean, I think. I think. I think. I think. I think.

[00:39:17] I think they need to come out with the games now. I think to rebuild the kind of notoriety that they I think they used to have when it came to, you know, the. Not their games. Yeah. Well, any of. Well, I mean, you know, they were top dog. I would definitely say in three 60 and Xbox one, you know, you know, like you said during

[00:39:42] the PS three and somewhat of the Xbox one that failed out of the get go because of Matt. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. You know, but. You know, they were still pretty strong those those years, too, but no, I think they I think they need to put out their games, get that notoriety up and get the the the love of the fans back. And then. Yeah, I think I still think maybe ended in with one more console.

[00:40:12] But that's the yeah, that's my opinion. Jason. Again, they should have the this last one. So. How but do you think they should hold their games back or can like no or they need to bust out games, I mean, or strike while the iron's hot and start putting them all on PS PlayStation go. No, don't do that. If you want to stay alive as a company like that, you got at least. Yeah, at least you give us a good limited.

[00:40:42] Give me give me a name of a amazing game right now that it's on Xbox only, you know, to have to have knowledge of Xbox games. I didn't hear to tell you that. I mean, I mean, but not like Psychonauts to that one massive awards strictly. That's not only on Xbox, though. It's not. Um, did they put it on PlayStation on Steam? And I believe it is on the team.

[00:41:12] No, Psychonauts 2. Yeah, I think that's two zone. Let's go to the game. Give me one amazing game that I like. But like, you want you want like a blockbuster triple A game. I need to get Xbox because this game is out, you know? Oh, OK. Well, I mean, I mean, obviously, like Halo, Gears of War. No. So Psychonauts 2 came out on PS4. So it did come out last generation. OK. OK.

[00:41:43] I mean, you do have the Halo Master Chief collection that's on PC, but it's not on PlayStation. Well, as it should remain. I mean, it is a Microsoft IP. Yeah. Xbox. The only one that I'll obviously is for forza. That's that's it. I won't I won't buy a 600 console for one game. Yeah. Like, it's just not going to happen.

[00:42:13] OK, so you've got currently like there when you look at it high level, right? You've got my Microsoft Flight Simulator. You do have the forzes both the numbered and the horizons. You've got Hellblade. Well, Hellblade 2. Hellblade 2. So let's take PC out of the equation because PlayStation is putting stuff out on, you know, on PC.

[00:42:40] I'm looking at it just from a console perspective. Right. OK. Putting stuff on PlayStation. Right. You have you have Starfield, which there's a huge following for it. Dude, OK. You will have Fable. Fable. Like, could you could you imagine them dropping Fable on a PlayStation at launch? Good Lord. I think that'd be that'd be one that you should do as a timed exclusive if you're going to put it on it. You know, PlayStation, you wait like the six months.

[00:43:11] You know, you're going to have Gears of War. E-Day. That's also PS4. I didn't realize about that one. What? Gears of War? That's also going to be on PS5 too. Oh, yeah. That one will be. Yeah. It is? I don't know. Yeah. There's rumor it's going to be launching day of. One I didn't even think of is Quantum Break. That was actually. I dug that game. That was actually a good game. Quantum Break was good. Yeah. I liked it. You know.

[00:43:42] Do you remember that game, Jerry? I do. I don't. I don't. I didn't remember hearing that it was going to come on PS5. That's interesting. Well, no, it's not. I mean, it's been a while. It's not on PS5. No, it's not on PS5. I'm saying these are their exclusives that. Oh, so that's still. Okay. Yeah. Okay. Yeah. I do remember that one. Yeah. That was pretty sweet. So according to like games radar, they put out a list of the best Xbox exclusives you need to own. So Hellblade two is on that list. Uh huh.

[00:44:11] Microsoft flight simulator, Indiana Jones, which you know, that one's coming out on, on PS5 here soon. Um, you know, Quantum Break, which is from remedy, you know, um, the guys behind Max Payne and Alan Wake, you know, master chief collection, um, stalker two is exclusive to them. Um, sunset overdrive, which is from insomniac. Um, now the thing is insomniac owns that IP. So I'm surprised they just don't remaster and just go, here you go.

[00:44:40] Um, you know, the forces halo infinite, which it's gotten better now that they fixed it. You know, they took three, four, three, a lot of, a lot of time to fix that, um, before now became halo game studio. Um, you know, gears five, uh, Valheim, um, they've got star field on here. Fable two, which honestly, that's one of the honest, for me, that's probably the best one in the series is Fable two out of one, two and three.

[00:45:10] And then they, you know, Psychonauts two, which we know is on PS4. Um, so I really, I honestly, I think that if they're going to start going more of that publisher route anyways, because they're trying to get it on everything like, you know, smart TVs and everything like that with cloud gaming. Um, I really want to see, I do want to see Xbox succeed though, because honestly, as we've

[00:45:36] seen with PlayStation, you've said it before Jerry, you've, you've said it, you know, resting on their laurels, right? PlayStation is just sitting back, just putting out remasters because Xbox hasn't been putting out the games because now we know they've just been in long development cycles. I think, so hopefully this is going to breed competition breeds more competition. Correct. You know, so it'll be interesting to see what happens.

[00:46:03] Um, so, Hey Theo, we're going to start with you. What you've been playing. Uh, just this like little masterpiece that's been around like an un is a diamond in the rough. It's been around for like 10 years or plus. It was just a little Minecraft, you know, a movie's coming out about it pretty soon too. Oh God. I will not see that movie through that. Oh my God. It looks so ridiculous.

[00:46:33] You'll go see it. You'll go see it. Cause you're getting addicted to the game. Now I will not go see it, but I don't care. I don't care that Jack Black and Jason. Bowe are in it. Nope. I ain't gonna go see it. Punch those trees. As soon as I saw that sheep, I was like, no. Yeah. Wow. You got anything else you've been playing besides Minecraft? Uh, just a little MTGA, a little magic, magic arena.

[00:47:00] Uh, I'm, I'm glad this season, the meta has been like mono white for the most part. Just annihilating things. So I've been enjoying it. Mono white tokens is my, is my jam right now. Hmm. I'll run it against my, uh, one of my blue blacks. And I will, but I'm right. I'm playing standard though. I'm playing standard. Okay. I could go put together a blue black standard and still. Anyways. Um, real quick, just high level.

[00:47:30] No ruining anything. Was a squid game to worth the watch? Uh, honestly, I would say maybe wait until next season comes out because of the cliffhanger. With the cliffhanger is just like, Oh, it's like really not that much actually like actually happens though. It is, it is only seven episodes. Granted first season was only nine, but like so much more happened in those nine episodes.

[00:47:59] So I would actually kind of venture to say he might be better off waiting until later this year when season comes out. I would say the same thing. All right. Jason, what'd you think of the ending, Jason? For. Yeah. The, the mid season finale, I guess you would call it pretty much. Uh, that kind of says it all, I guess. Yeah. It's, it's. I get it, but there's, but it's just not.

[00:48:28] Would that have happened really? No, not at all. Like, no, definitely not. Okay. Yeah. It's, it's got a little too like far fetched a little. Like I, I, I enjoy, I enjoy that. There's a lot more, uh, more character development. Sure. Um, at least there was different games. Yeah. As opposed to the first, uh, first season is a lot more character development. Um, but, uh, not like, yeah, just wait until it finishes and they're like, Oh, it's

[00:48:58] Oh, like the, the show is over or season two is ended as like, okay, then you can binge watch it if you want to binge it. But it's not, uh, it's not, it's not like I need to watch this now. Okay. Yeah. Have you been playing anything Jay? Um, not too much really, uh, to fight tactics a little bit here and there. It's easy for me to quick pick up.

[00:49:25] Um, been watching. I watched a Marshall. Uh, the one at least on Netflix. Yes. Do you like it? It's hilarious. It's hilarious. Uh, it's a very Harry Potter ask and it's just pretty funny. Which one's that one? That's the one, uh, magic and muscles. Yeah. Okay. Where he lives in a world where everybody has magic, but basically him. Yeah. Okay.

[00:49:53] Uh, just been watching that, but you know, excited because there is going to be a season three from Alice in Borderland. It is announced. It is. Oh, sweet. I did not know that. It is announced. It is in the works. Yes. Yes. Yes. Bro. Yes. I stopped to finish season two. Oh, you need to watch all of it, dude. Yeah. Like I still need to watch season one, bro. If you, if you think that's good games. Good. Nah, nah. Alison. Oh yeah. No way better.

[00:50:23] Yeah. Leaps and bounds. Yeah. Yeah. Leaps and bounds. Uh, but yeah, uh, just waiting for some of the shows to come up again. So yeah, nothing too crazy. Jerry. Um, let's see hidden, uh, uh, horizon here and there. I'm really kind of stuck on cyberpunk. I think I'm going to see that through. I've already. Zero Dawn or, um, for Ben West. Uh, zero Dawn, the remaster, the remaster.

[00:50:53] Okay. But, uh, yeah, cyberpunk really, like I, I really needed a change of pace from horizon for a little bit. And then I just got hooked on, on cyberpunk for, for a good while. Cause it just got, uh, it really is much better. I remember I'm remembering where all the like secret weapons are and stuff like that. So it's, uh, and man, the DLC Idris Elba, like the first time you meet Idris Elba, like, oh man, they did a really good job.

[00:51:22] I might have to try cyberpunk. It's a lot of fun, man. Especially with the RPG element with you. Like, I'd be interested to see what, what kind of cybernetics you would run and how you would like, because I did like, dude, like I used to play Deus all the time. So I think that element you, you would have a lot of fun with when like, depending on like what cybernetics and like what stuff you would run with. I'd be interested to see what you do. Cause, uh, yeah, you can, you can upgrade yourself like completely now.

[00:51:52] And, um, after a certain skill tree, you can put yourself, you can make yourself like ever since the, um, anime, like David's part of the skill tree now where you can be in, where if Oh, it's sick, dude. So, um, yeah, I've really been enjoying that. And, uh, I've also wanted to tell you guys, I'm current with on the rookie. I caught up and I'm current. You're ahead of Matt. Awesome. I started over. It's awesome. I'm doing it from like the beginning.

[00:52:22] I just started over. So I finally got caught up in, I'm there. So you watched the recent episode with, uh, Bailey returning. Shush deployment. Yeah. Yeah. Would you like stop? That doesn't do anything. I'm like two seasons. The end of the most recent episode. Oh my God. But it was hilarious. But yeah. So, um, yeah, the rookie and then, Oh, and, uh, rewatched season one of solo leveling and current on season two.

[00:52:52] So good. So, Oh my God. Yeah. No elves. Oh, we were from the bears to the snow. Oh dude. That was, it was so good. So dope. Yeah. I can't wait. He's unstoppable. Yeah. Yeah. Um, but, uh, okay. Yeah. Um, so watch wise going through the rookie again. Um, also, uh, you mentioned firefly.

[00:53:22] So I'll do in firefly. And then I also finished off all of the new season of launch control, which is me being the nerd it's super motor sports. Um, basically does it's a series they do about the, the season that was, you know, when I released it the prior or motorhead. You like motor. Yeah. Gear. Yeah. You're gear head. There you go. I don't know about. Not. Um, anyways, so finished.

[00:53:51] Like figuring out the physics of the, of the combustion different casts that they're using. Um, I did get a care package package of decals and stuff from Vermont sports cars. So shout out to you guys. Um, oh yeah. So they sent me like, I emailed them asking about the small decals to go in my car. Like the small, just, um, basically they're smaller versions of just the VSC, you know, on the side windows. And they're like, you know what?

[00:54:20] We don't sell those, but you know, uh, since you order enough with us, they're like, there's like 16 orders in two years. Oh, that's awesome. They're like, Hey, I'm just going to toss some decals in an envelope and I'll send them out to you. It shows up. It's a whole ton of decals. So like, I was able to do this. Oh, that's cool. That was really nice. We can do the Subaru motor sport, uh, motorsports logo on my windows. Got the VSCs on the side windows back window. I've got the big Vermont sports car with the, um, their little green license plate, Vermont

[00:54:50] license plate that says, you know, built to win, um, because they are just straight up dominating the area right now. So, um, shout out to them. Um, uh, but my PlayStation hasn't been played like as an actual game for me. And now two weeks since I finished horizon, I was pretty much on my switch. Um, that's kind of like, yeah. Rotate something on PlayStation. You're kind of dominant on, on back on my back on my bullshit. Yeah.

[00:55:19] More just hanging out and playing on my Island. Um, that's both of you. Both of you are, are, are back at your, uh, your comfort zones. You're you're yeah. Yeah. Um, both of us, this is not my comfort zone. Comfort zone is destiny too, sir. Oh, okay. No, I thought this kind of took over like your, this is kind of like your. Oh no. Oh, okay. This is the first, this is the first time I've ever played. Yeah. Um, but I ended up, uh, playing a little bit with one of our, uh, listeners, former guests, uh, Stryfers.

[00:55:48] She was on our second holiday episode, you know? Um, so we were, I was one over to her Island, helped her out with getting some supplies over there for her new Island. She came over, hung out my Island for a little bit. Um, but I started, I, I was getting a tactical RPG Twitch. So I dove back in a fire emblem back in a fire. Started working on that. Um, part of it is because on Tik TOK, I keep seeing shining force.

[00:56:19] Tik TOKs now. And I think I'm going to go shining force Tik TOKs. I don't know. There's like people that are actually streaming shining force on Tik TOK. So I may actually do a, a shining force run through one and two. Oh, there you go. Um, I also still need to start up triangle strategy as well. So I'm like, I've got a couple of attack RPGs to do. Um, that's pretty much been what I've been doing. Just fire emblem and animal crossing. Um, you know, and I forgot.

[00:56:49] And then restarting the rookie, but it's just, you know, I forgot how OP some of my character builds were in fire emblem when I can just roll up with one character, fire one arrow and drop an enemy, you know, which has been great. So, but yeah, I'll be, I'm gonna start working on the clearing on my backlog. Cause there's nothing really until intergalactic and whatever comes out for the switch to, you know? So, um, but I'm kind of happy with all the time that we might have.

[00:57:17] Cause I've got, I've got a backlog. Other than a snake. Well, snake. Well, I'm, I'm excited for snake eater when that comes out, that comes out pretty soon, but yeah, there's going to be kind of a lull for a while. So, so with that folks, I want to thank everyone who crashed game night with us tonight. Um, feel like sure to make sure to drop us a follow, uh, here and over on one of the channels of your choice. Um, you can find all that over crashing game night.com.

[00:57:42] Um, but seriously with everything that is going on, the craziness that is what our country is right now. Um, I, I please everybody, you know, through all of this, just be excellent to each other. That's right. Everybody. Once again, we still want to send out that same message, uh, to, uh, everyone. We want, uh, to praise everybody that has donated their time.

[00:58:09] That has really, uh, uh, uh, stepped up and volunteered and helped out and to all of the firefighters, all of the safety work, everybody who have helped out with the Palisades fires and like the, the fires that have spread, um, around, um, that has just been more of an example of what we hope to continue, uh, for all of us to kind of just do and be better. Um, you know, if we see a situation that, uh, you know, someone needs help, you know, help them out.

[00:58:38] Uh, let's just try and be there for each other and, uh, let's just stay safe and, um, you know, be nice, be kind, be cool. You guys all do you, you be nerds. You all do you to J rock J bone and your, and your aesthetic artistic couch. Anyways, guys, Norman Rockville over there. There we go. You know, it's, it's, uh, it's a splash.

[00:59:09] Oh God. Jeez. Anyways, it is, uh, if you guys are out there, uh, it is going to be, uh, tomorrow the year of the snake. Uh, so, you know, happy Chinese new year to all of you guys. Happy. Um, to all you snakes out there, it's going to be, hopefully it's, hopefully it's a good year for you. I know some people believe that if it's your year, it's a bad luck, but think of it as good luck. You know, all the bad, bad stuff has already happened.

[00:59:37] So nowhere to go, but up. Right. Am I right? Anyways, guys, you know, keeping it short this time, send it out to my man, my man. Yeah. Yeah. Well, real quick. Do you know any snakes in your side of the family or no? No, no, no. I don't got any snakes. We actually have one. I actually hadn't heard about it being, um, bad luck for a year.

[01:00:07] Cause last year was, last year was my year and I don't know. I think it was okay. Yeah. Some people believe that, uh, it is bad luck. Some people believe that it's just, it's, it is what it is, what it, uh, whatever, you know? Well, cause it's because it's your year that like everything is going to revolve around you all the good and bad things. So. Gotcha. That's why they, some say it is, some say it isn't. I don't know. We'll see.

[01:00:37] I got another 11 years until my next one. So we'll find out. Yeah. All right. So thank you for listening. Thanks for watching. Until next time. That's up for now. Good night, everybody. Magic man.
