[00:00:08] And ladies and gentlemen, I want to welcome everybody to Crashing Game Night. My name is Matt Diorio, your host as always, and it's back to being the dynamic duo. Just how we started it 311 episodes ago. Oh my gosh. Right? This is episode 312 tonight. So, you know, joined by the beanied one, Gerard Barrera.
[00:00:34] Hey, what's up all my nerds out there? How you doing? What's going on? Holy crap. Yeah. It's been a while. Not that I, you know, I don't miss the old days, but like, but it's yeah, but this is like, like early, early, like test phase day. Like, yeah, it was just us. And then eventually we added in Theo and then Jason. And yeah, yeah. So.
[00:01:05] Anyways. So, um, Jerry, I want to start off tonight though. Um, you know, we've got a lot of craziness going on in the US right now. Um, but I want to say this because we talk about this at the end of the show all the time, but I want to lead in with this that, you know what? This is, and always will be a safe place.
[00:01:28] I don't care if you're gay, you're trans person of color, any of that. You are welcome in this family. You are welcome to game night to, you know, come join us. Um, because I, you know, we've always supported everybody's rights.
[00:01:50] You know, we have, we have friends of ours that are, that are gay. We have friends of ours that have significant others that are trans. I have a trans sibling, you know, and I just want to go on record, you know, to say that everybody's here. It's a safe space. We are not going to discriminate anybody. And also because certain individuals out there want to try and do away with a lot of the remembrance months and holidays and everything like that.
[00:02:17] I want to say this happy start of black history month to everybody out there because, um, you know, they, there's a lot of things going on where now all of a sudden, um, some entities are no longer going to celebrate Holocaust remembrance day, black history month, pride month.
[00:02:37] Um, a lot of those things now. And I feel that is our duty as allies that we need to support everybody. Um, you know, there's a lot of historical things that we can learn that, you know, black history month can teach us, you know, when we're talking about like the underground railroad, um, Rosa parks
[00:03:07] Tuskegee Airmen, you know, first black Air Force squadron. So I just want to say, everybody, you're welcome. You're welcome at this game night anytime. And hopefully we can give you guys some laughs and a little bit of a distraction from the chaos that's going on in the world right now. You know, because I think we all need to be better and just have a little bit of happiness. So, you know what? We got a lot to talk about tonight. Hopefully we make you guys laugh. Jerry, I want to ask you,
[00:03:38] fantastic four. What do you think of the trailer? I thought it was interesting beforehand. I also just want to piggyback and just say overall. Yes. I think we, I think we need to stay open-minded and, and just be open to, to listen, to hear other people's side and, and their perspective and just, just be open to change and, or, or, or, you know, compromise.
[00:04:07] But overall, let's just try and listen and, and be better and, and be open. So, uh, subject change. Fantastic four. Uh, overall, I was very satisfied with everything. I thought the man, I wasn't. Quite sold on like the, cause like when they said the classic look,
[00:04:32] like from the poster, it looked like they were going straight classic look and sixties. Yeah. Yeah. And man, do they, they made it work. And I'm interested to see like where this is going because, um, I don't know if this is the MCU fantastic four, or if they're going to transition, like go to another dimension,
[00:05:00] you know, to our MCU dimension. But, um, overall as a first movie and that glimpse of Galactus and, um, uh, uh, uh, oh God, who was, um, who was the other actor? I don't know who the guy was that. It was John Malkovich. Uh, don't know who that is, but that was a cool little mystery. Cause like, I don't know who was that character, but, um, yeah,
[00:05:27] I mean, it all thing looked amazing and yeah, I was very impressed and, um, interested, very interested in eager. So there is, so there's two theories going on right now is that it is the fantastic four from six one six. And somehow they ended up back in this futuristic 1960s, um,
[00:05:54] or B what Reed is working on, you know, in the trailer where you see him kind of talking about, they're looking at that's the multiverse bridge that he was famous for building in the comics. Um, and that kind of gets them back, you know, back to six one six or B this is how they come from their, their universe to MCU. Yeah. Which I think, I think that's going to be, I think they're,
[00:06:23] it just kind of from the trailer, it seems like they're from that world. So I think it's going to be, they make, make their way to our MCU. I do like that. They're going with that. They're already established. We all know who the fantastic four are like at this point. Exactly. And I think they do it in a great way. We're like, I think, I think that's why it works that they put them in their own, in the modern world and, and kept it to that sixties.
[00:06:53] Cause they can play with that and then just keep it for the, like, keep it all just fantastic for what you already know who they are. They're going to, they're obviously going to show glimpse of like, I think it's going to be somewhat of a flashback of like, when they got their powers and then continue with the movie, like down. I'm totally down with that. We've seen their origin story plenty of times. We know it. We don't talk about the last time. Let's just get to it. Yeah. Yeah. Exactly. Talk about that one.
[00:07:23] We don't talk about that other one too, but yeah, exactly. Let's just keep going. I happen to enjoy the Fox fantastic fours. The first two, they were fun, you know, but also for their time. Yes. For their time. And we got to see silver surfer. Come on. That is, that is true. And that is the only, uh, time we have seen on the, on the, uh, screen. Yeah. Silver screen. Yep. So we're going to get the Herald back. Not,
[00:07:52] not the one we're used to seeing. It's the, the female version, um, from the comics, but I, you know, it looks, it looks fun, you know? Yeah. Um, I will say it's, you're going to, that's a stacked summer slate though. Like round fantastic four, you've got Superman and you've got dress, the new drastic world trailer tomorrow. Yeah. Yes. As far as I know. Yeah. Cause they just a teeny tiny teaser and whatnot. So, um, you know,
[00:08:23] it'll be, it'll be interesting to see how they get it all done over to, you know, 616. Um, and you know, we are going to, they have said that we are going to see, uh, Dr. Doom at the end of first steps. So, Oh yeah. I think either it's, it's rumored to be a, uh, uh, like credit scene, a post credit or, either, you know, it's either at the end of the movie or it's going to be a credit scene either way, but we're going to get,
[00:08:53] we're going to get to see Dr. Doom at the end of it. So, um, I'm looking, I'm looking forward to that. Um, but we, we've got some gaming news to talk about. I sent you guys in our, our little group chat, you know, the other day, you know, when this got, when the news of this dropped, um, Oh yeah. But let's, uh, yeah,
[00:09:23] let's go look at this. Shall we? Um, hold on. Let me get my right screen up. We got to do this right. We got to go into the theater, but we're not going to have any, like, you know, little Jason, little J. Yeah. We got no little J for the J baby, you know, but let's do this. Let's do this right way here. You know? So anyways,
[00:09:47] Forza horizon five is coming to PlayStation in the spring. I know you were excited when that, Oh yeah. Like I, I enjoy horizons. I, I love Forza motorsport, but the fact of the matter is we're getting, we're getting Forza on PlayStation. Like, and that's, that's not all like this. This isn't all there. I think Microsoft confirmed what else was coming out.
[00:10:16] Like there's more coming. Yeah. you know, we talked about it, you know, last week where we know that, that doom is going to be coming to PlayStation at launch. We know Indiana Jones is, is on its way, but it's also rumored. Halo, the master chief. Yeah. Uh, the, the gears of ward, uh, the trilogy. And then of course, eat the new game. E day. Yeah.
[00:10:44] Indiana Jones is already scheduled to come out. I think, yeah, I think we can say that successfully Microsoft is embracing their gaming everywhere mantra. And they're morphing into a publisher, you know, that happens to make consoles as well. Um, but what they're saying is there's nearly, I didn't, I haven't played this in a little while. Um, cause I've been jumped on X cloud in a bit. Um, but there's going to be nine, there's 900 cars,
[00:11:13] 40 thematic game updates, two expansions, and more, all of it coming to PS five. Whoa. Hmm. So it is. Um, so basically we've got panic button in partnership with turn 10 and playground games. So, um, for those that don't know, playground games has been kind of doing the, the, the fours of horizon, uh, turn 10 pretty much takes care of doing motorsport, you know, but they work in concert to each other and whatnot.
[00:11:40] So it's going to have all the same content as the Xbox and the PC release, um, including the, the car packs, hot wheels, rally adventure expansions. Um, they'll be available for purchase. It's going to be basically like it's on Xbox and you better damn well believe I am picking that game up. Like we've, we've talked about this for a while that I love Forza over. Yeah. Over Grand Srismo.
[00:12:10] And like, I, I do have on my, my Xbox account for X cloud and stuff like that. I do have a. WRX STI built. Oh, that already. So, um, you know, they haven't said whether or not, you know, if you sign in your Microsoft account, if your cloud saves going to move over or not. Um, if it doesn't fine, I'll start over from scratch. I'll go get that WRX at the beginning. You know, it's a starting car. So, um, you know,
[00:12:39] you can start wishlisting it, um, on the PS five, according to the article from Forza, I haven't seen it up to yet on my PlayStation store yet. Um, but yeah, I will be absolutely picking this thing up. Um, it is, it's fun. It very much has that need for speed vibe to it. Um, you know, and it's, it's great. So I think honestly, for me, it's, it's time that these, these floodgates started opening.
[00:13:10] And I, I want to say this to the Xbox fans out there that, you know, are part of the CGN family and stuff is that I, I think it's sad that you've got Microsoft saying, Hey, we're going to give you guys Forza. Essentially. Halo. Microsoft flight simulator. We're doing Indiana Jones. You know, we may see Starfield, you know, let's rumored. another one. That was right. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. You know, we're, we may give you guys gears of war, you know,
[00:13:39] perfect dark is being built by the coalition right now. it's, they're doing all of this. Right. And here's PlayStation going, we're not giving you shit unless you're on PC. You know what? I think honestly, give them uncharted, give them horizon. You know what? Put grand turismo on Xbox, you know, you know, right now. Yes.
[00:14:09] And it'll be the show is on there, but that is because MLB said, if you want to keep making the first party, title is exclusively, you have to put it on switch and Xbox to keep the license. So of course they said, yes, to keep the license, we're going to, we're going to do this. But I think Xbox fans deserve to be able to play uncharted, you know, and, and all those games like, heck, go in, go put final fantasy seven on the Xbox, you know, you know, it doesn't,
[00:14:38] I don't know. I think, I think the timing, don't you think the timing might be a factor because if, if they did it, say they, they followed suit right immediately. Don't you think that would open the doors for Microsoft to kind of start selling consoles again, or I don't know. I kind of feel like maybe, maybe, maybe PlayStation or I'm sorry, maybe Sony is, are, are,
[00:15:07] are just kind of waiting until the right time to maybe do that. Hopefully. I don't know. I'm trying to, I'm trying to think of like, I don't know. I don't know. I'm trying to think of the reasoning behind it. Like why, why haven't they like kind of followed suit? I, I mean, arrogance, you know, saying, Hey, our console is just better. Yeah. But I'm just, I'm, I mean, honestly, from a business standpoint, I'm, I'm not talking about the, you know,
[00:15:37] the only, the only way, the only reason I can see them saying why they can't do it is because of the dual sense, you know, with hapt, you know, with some of the stuff that they got built into the, the dual sense, how some of them use, you know, some of the games actually use the touch pad. You know, the, it just might, you know, also too, is the way the PS five is architected over the Xbox, right? We know, like,
[00:16:06] let's look at ratchet and clank, for instance, right? You can just zip in between areas super quick. You know, I don't know if, if the architecture in the Xbox is able to do that. Do that or not like that instantaneous processing power that the PS five does. So that's for me, I'm going to plead ignorance on that piece, right? As far as the Xbox goes, because, you know, honestly, the most Xbox I play is on X cloud. Now. That's just like the halos and whatnot.
[00:16:36] We know from a graphics perspective, the series X can go right up there with the PS five, you know, from a graphics perspective, you know, especially with what, you know, the Forza team is doing, you know, how, how the landscapes look, you know, very lifelike and everything. So, um, I don't know, but I think it's time like, because the way I look at it is this, right?
[00:17:03] Is that gives you more of a revenue stream for your studios, right? Go put it on Xbox, give them uncharted for, give them horizon, give them, you know, forbidden West at this point. I mean, cause it's already been out for well over, you know, a couple of years. And that's the other thing. I feel like I, I, that's why I do agree because I, I mean, just, you said it right there. Enough time has been, has passed where, okay, why not allow them to play uncharted,
[00:17:32] the uncharted legacy and go through all those, all those games. Same with, yeah. Horizon at like enough time has gone by. Heck where those exclusives are like, okay. Yeah. They were exclusive for a good amount of time. Let them play it. But I, that's what I'm just trying to like, kind of understand their mindset and why. I mean, Microsoft was brave, brave enough to, you know, take the first step. They're showing it, you know,
[00:18:02] the, some of their biggest games are going to PS five. I mean, they said it. They're talking fable, possibly going PlayStation. Yeah. Yeah. Like at this point, Microsoft just like, we want everybody to be able to play these games, regardless of you playing on our hardware or somebody else's hardware. We want you to be able to play the games. Overall. I under like, right now, I, the timing, I understand the reluctance. I would be patient as well as a company. I would want to see further. Okay. I want to see how, you know,
[00:18:32] further on, uh, how many releases I see down the line and maybe, maybe, uh, you know, have a talk, you know, schedule something. How, wow. But, um, you know, maybe, maybe communicate it too. Like, okay, that's interesting. You know, maybe we'll think about it, but you know, I, but there's, you know, a complete silence. There's nothing coming from Sony. Here's my thing is we've talked about this.
[00:18:58] Like I think right now PlayStation has got a crisis of conscience outside of intergalactic and the rumored God of war that is set in Egypt, which would be freaking awesome to see Kratos go up against the universe. Yeah, that's already, you know, but outside of that, right? And, you know, Wolverine's coming, but what, what else is Sony working on? What do they have in the pipe? And at this point,
[00:19:27] it's like Microsoft's like, we have all of this stuff, you know, is coming. We're going to start putting on PlayStation because we want everybody to be able to play it. This needs to put something into Sony's, you know, in their court that goes, okay, you know what? We technically have competition. It just happens to be on our own console, you know, and we need to, we need to do something. So, you know,
[00:19:56] we'll see where, where PlayStation goes from here. Um, what, what they decide to put on the, to Xbox, if anything, um, you know, they've dabbled in launching stuff on PC, um, you know, with, with last Western horizon and, um, got a war charted and whatnot. I just, it's time to, it's time to just tear down the wall. Like Nintendo is the only one that I can see not putting it on the wall. They're not putting their games on other consoles just because they do. But they've all,
[00:20:25] they're also, Nintendo's also been different from the other three. Oh yeah. They've also stood kind of outside and like held their own, but you know, yeah. I mean, and even when they can, they, you know, they share games. And at this point, but Phil Spencer's already said he, he looks forward to working with Nintendo and partnering with them. And with, if the rumors of halo and, you know, and flight simulator are true about them going to switch,
[00:20:54] I think Sony, the switch to the switch to. Yeah. I think honestly, PlayStation needs to kind of go. All right. It's go time. Like put fucking uncharted on the switch to, you know, I think the only reason you wouldn't do uncharted on the switch too, is because you potentially may have the Vita successor in, in, in development right now, which has been rumored that they may be doing another Vita or a PSP, something along those lines. Right.
[00:21:22] And they did the update to the portal where you can do it's cloud streaming now, you know, so you can stream the games in your library, right to your console. I heard the portal is being heavily like redesigned. Like I heard it, whatever their beat, the Vita or the next kind of Sony handheld, it's heavily going to be influenced by the portal since they already have that kind of foreign, that factor, but you know, they're going to do redesigns, but you know,
[00:21:52] I think that's the, the, the starting point. Yeah. So we'll, we'll see how it goes from there, but you know what? I'm disappointed in Jason for not showing up tonight. Because guess, guess what? Guess what it is? Exclusives. No, it is that time of the month. Oh, the monthly games. That's right. The monthly games for February, which started today.
[00:22:21] So we're getting a payday three high on life and Pac-Man world repack. So now, now that it's free, I dude, I highly recommend you, you try high on life. It is, it is funny. It has looked rather entertaining. It is, especially, I mean, especially if you're a Rick and Morty fan, I don't know if you've watched those, but I am not a Rick and Morty fan as much as you and Theo are,
[00:22:50] but you know, it's so good. It's pretty much fun that the mind of Rick and Morty. Yeah. And it's, it is so funny. You know, it's, it looks entertaining. And then you've got the Pac-Man world repack, which is the remaster and stuff. So these games are going to go from February 4th through till March 3rd. To Jason's point, this was honestly, this is a kind of a throwaway month in some ways. Like, yeah,
[00:23:20] I would say not, not a strong month. You know, last year was, last month was strong, but I would say, or last month was okay. Last month was okay. Let's be honest. I mean, it was Suicide Squad, which I haven't downloaded yet. But I added it to my library and I'm like, I'll get around to it whenever I want to. Yeah. You know, Hot Pursuit and Stanley Parable. Yeah. They're not all going to be bangers. That's right. No. But, you know, well,
[00:23:47] we'll see as far as what next month looks like and going forward. Um, but I want to talk some, some Nintendo shop. Ooh, because Nintendo, you know, we know, just really quick. Have you played payday at all? No, neither have I. The only thing I've seen about payday is three. They're on their third game. Walked by it at E3. Yeah. And that's, that's, that is pretty much all the experience I've had of it.
[00:24:17] And yeah, it's just so popular. I don't get it. Right. Okay. But anyway, so Nintendo, we know we have the switch to in the pipe and we should be hearing stuff about that with a Nintendo direct in April. We know Metroid prime is on its way. We know a new Mario 3d adventures on its way. There's a rumored Zelda remake slash remaster. We don't know what that is. That could be any of the games in the catalog. So,
[00:24:46] so I would like to reiterate my previous statement. If the starting line is, as we, you are, as you are saying the, the games right now, um, the rumors, the rumors, yes. Um, I will reconsider by, uh, getting a launch. Let me put it this way. And then it is also depending on the, the Zelda remake. If it is wind waker, I will definitely consider. I don't want a remake of wind waker.
[00:25:15] Give us what the HD version that was on the Wii U. Or that. Yeah. Or just what I want, whatever. Whatever. I've asked for this for a while now is I want Ocarina of time in the tears of the kingdom engine. Yeah. Also give me that. That would be awesome. But, uh, yeah, I would definitely reconsider. But if we're looking at it in the first year, right? Okay. Let's just look at the first year for, for the switch to, if we are getting Mario cart nine, which looks amazing,
[00:25:44] which I'll get that anyways. Cause I love Mario cart. I'll wait on that. We're getting, that's just because you have PTSD. Oh shit. You know what? You can't step into the dojo and compete anyways. But if we're getting that, we're getting Metroid prime four. We're getting a possible Zelda remake. We are getting, you know, a Mario 3d game right there. You've got those coming in the first year. Already. Yeah. Start from Nintendo. Right.
[00:26:13] And Nintendo gave us prime two and three, please. And give us wind waker and twilight princess. And it'll shut us all up for a while. Um, but then you have third party support in potentially halo, Microsoft flight simulator. And I would still get those on PS five. You've got assassins creed. Halo. I will buy them both. Really? I will get it. So that way I can still fucking play halo on the go. Okay. I'm okay.
[00:26:43] You know what? There are certain games I will buy on both systems and not bad. And I am, you know, um, so, I mean, come on. I'm, I've got Ori on the switch. I'm like super excited for your Christmas gift now. So anyways, but you know, for me, it's like, I love halo. I'm, you know what? But for me, like we've talked about it, right. It's just not that show.
[00:27:13] Owning the mini fridge just for Forza and halo. Isn't enough for me, especially at that price point right now. Right. I mean, for 500 bucks, that's car parts. Yeah. For me. Now I have to start looking at it in terms of, Ooh, that's a car part. You know, that's right. Yeah. Honestly, for 500 bucks, I could get the, the fender shrouds pulley cover,
[00:27:41] a couple other pieces for dress up on my engine bag for 500 bucks. 500 bucks. I can get it. That would just go towards a pro. I could for 500 bucks. I could get a spoiler. Oh, the racks. You know, that's what I'm just saying. Like from, for me is I start looking at it in car parts now. Yeah. You know, but even then like 500 bucks, that's almost a PS five pro at that point. So,
[00:28:11] um, the games coming to PlayStation, if they're coming to PlayStation, I'm just going to, I'll get them on PlayStation for sure. Um, you know, I've already got the PS five, so I might as well just keep it that way. Um, but let's look at Nintendo though, because their year and numbers came out and the switch is now over 150 million units.
[00:28:40] I believe it in its lifetime. Yeah. So, it's surpassed. Yeah. That's, that's insane. It's it, that's the, I'm not surprised, but it's, it's still pretty insane. The fact that it's still selling units. And it's still selling. Yeah. It people are like, yes, the switch two is coming out. We'll get it. Eventually. I want the switch now for everything that's out now, but there are people who are, yeah, exactly. Who are just like, no,
[00:29:05] you're like if the they're thinking trying to get the switch to is going to be too hard, too complicated for the first couple of years. Now I'll take a switch. Now there's plenty of games. There's plenty. There's plenty of sales for the, a lot of the games. I mean, yeah, dude. Yeah. And let's, I mean, I'm not surprised at it in retrospect, right? Cause that's the one thing, the nice thing about the, the Nintendo dot, um, code jet PC, uh, JP site rather, um,
[00:29:33] has all the sales units and stuff. So we know the three DS did 76, just I have 76 million. The Wii U did 13.5. Not surprising. Yeah. But the DS 154 million units. Think about that. The switch. Yeah. Is 4 million units away from surpassing. The DS.
[00:30:00] Who would have thought that the switch at this point in its existence would sell 150 and now be almost ready to surpass the DS. You know, I mean, the Wii sold 101, you know, I mean, you look at the rest, right? You know, the NES was just shy of 62 million. The super Nintendo was 49 and 64 was 32. GameCube was 20, just shy of 22. I mean,
[00:30:30] they had a major decline until, you know, you started looking at the, the Wii. I, I mean, honestly, honestly, the DS is what I feel is what saved Nintendo. And the Wii, I would say the Wii as well. The Wii was like the, the, the tip, like the tipping stone to where it brought Nintendo back. I think to that level where we were thinking like the soup, the, the trifecta of the super Nintendo 64, uh,
[00:31:00] Q game cube days. The Wii, the, the DS kept it afloat, kept it going on a rise. And then the, the Wii brought it back to that pedestal where like Nintendo's back, you know, this is a console to, to check out, to experience. It's Nintendo, you know? Yeah. I think it really, uh, uh, put them back on the map. Yeah. I mean, for me though, I will always love the super Nintendo. Oh yeah.
[00:31:30] And the fact that I was able to get ahold of one of the super Nintendo controllers for the switch is fantastic. So, but you know, you look at overall though, I, this is the testament to Nintendo though, that knowing that they have the switch two on the horizon, they still haven't 100% thrown in a towel on the switch. They're still bringing stuff out. You had the new, you know, you had Zunoblade Chronicles coming out and everything.
[00:32:01] And honestly, I don't think they, I don't think they're going to stop for a while. Even, even while the switch two is out. I think you'll have, I think you'll have a year or two. Where's that? I think that's a good switch and switch two. And then they're just going to be like, we're done. You know, we're just going to go switch to only. Um, I think they may take a little bit more time phasing out the switch to fully just selling the switch too. I mean, we'll, we'll see. Um, I,
[00:32:30] I will say this Nintendo before you give up on, say the switch is done. We need, we have, we need four games. That's it. Give us the four. Give us wind waker, twilight princess, prime two and three. And that'll make everybody happy. Yeah. Give us these games. You've been rumored. They've been rumored for so long now. Like, I mean, at least we, we have, we saw a title and a teaser of prime four. So, I mean, that has movement.
[00:33:00] That's, that's clearly right. I mean, now I think here's the thing is for you to bring out prime four. Right. And you've already brought out prime remastered. I think you have to bring out prime two and three. You have to. Yeah. You know, although like what the, the one thing I, I am honestly like, this is my theory is that I honestly think those are coming on switch too, man. If, if they're going to do even,
[00:33:29] even like a remastered or, or, or a bundle type of deal, I think just because on the time, and cause I, I honestly feel that prime four is, is going to be a, a switch too. Do you think it's switched to exclusive? I think so. I think it will be. Because remember we talked about this when we saw the trailer, I had a theory that that looked more like a switch to game than anything else. But that being said, we know how Nintendo studios specifically utilize that hardware to make the games look absolutely gorgeous.
[00:33:59] Like they should never belong on there. I think, I think prime four is going to be a switch to exclusive. And then they're going to do that switch to and switch for the, I think they're going to bundle two and three and then do the two for have it. You can get them on either console. Yeah. I'll buy it. Cause I, I also, I also feel that they've done that before with, with a game of that.
[00:34:28] They did a year before they did. Remember they did Mario all stars, which was okay. Mario sunshine, Mario galaxy, and Mario 64. They brought that out for a while and then they discontinued it. And then turn around and put Mario 64 on the N64 virtual console. But we don't have a game cube or, you know, we don't have a team cube or we emulator on the switch yet.
[00:34:57] So it'll be, it'll be interesting. I wonder if we do end up getting a, a Wii or a game cube emulator on the switch too. Yeah. Who knows? But you know, and then let's look at sales though. Right. Top selling unit sales, Mario cart eight. So we know 150. Switches are out there.
[00:35:25] Now I understand why they take the time on the Mario carts because it, that just, that continues to sell. Yeah. Insane. So when you look at it, right? So that is like 40%. Damn dude. And then your game that I wouldn't have called that. 45%, 45% of all the switches out there.
[00:35:54] Pretty much have Mario cart attached to them. Yeah. But also the second year game. And then animal crack. Animal crack. 47.44 million. You know, it's a third. There are all the switches that I am crossing on them. That's crazy. I'm in my minority on that. Yeah. That's very, and then, and then look, you got smash brothers smash. Now here's the thing though,
[00:36:22] is like you've got breath of the wild was at 32.62 million. Right. To date. Yeah. I think, and I'll agree with, with you on this. Cause you brought this up, you know, in the past episodes is that animal crossing came out at a very perfect time as well. Oh, that is true. I mean, that was there during the pandemic when none of us could do anything. And that's clearly that type of game that like,
[00:36:49] can you can lose yourself and find comfort. Yeah. So, oh yeah. But, um, but still though, I know people that are still buying new copies of that. Yeah. That's the thing. It's still selling. There's a reason it was just perfect timing. I mean, I still play in it. Yeah. You know, um, it's understandable. And, and plus like the, the argument against breath of the wild man, like it was a, it, it,
[00:37:17] it was a different format for a Zelda game. It was more open world. People had to get used to it. Um, I think people overall had the excitement for the game and then, you know, really had their critiques, but it still did very well. And it's, it's a top tier, no one of the number one games. And, uh, but, uh, I understand the position that it's in. That, that makes sense to me. And then you got Mario Odyssey at 29 million.
[00:37:45] You've got sword and shield for Pokemon at 26.6. And then right behind it, scarlet and violet. You've got tears, the kingdom 21 and a half million. And you know what though? Like after playing, you know, we talked about this. There's a lot of critiques about tears of the kingdom as well. You know? And you know, it hasn't been out as long as breath of wild breath of wild has been out for the length of the, the switch has been out, but overall though, there was a lot of things that were to be critiqued about tears of the kingdom,
[00:38:15] you know, you know, the mechanics and, and forcing people to build stuff to advance in the game, you know, instead of just letting them do what they need to do. Right. Um, you know, Mario party at 21 and look, look at the, the little engine that could that just like Mario cart, the little engine that could, you know, new super Mario brothers, which was on the week on the Wii U rather, you know, 18, 18 million units. Yeah. I was one of the, I bought that too. I'd love the deluxe. That was a goal.
[00:38:45] I've got it physically and digitally, you know, and, but, and still crazy thing, you know, the most out of all of those games, I would say are Mario games. One, Mario, Mario party. Okay. If you want to include Mario party in there, so there's two, then you've got Mario odyssey. There's three. You got Mario cart and you got, I wouldn't count. I wouldn't count smash brothers. I wouldn't count. But yeah, that's true. So for, you know,
[00:39:14] but let's, let's compare that. Right. When you look at, you know, the Wii U, right. Oh, let's talk about Mario games right now. Three granted. Okay. So granted though, we know that the Wii U had 13 and a half. Yeah. That's right. Units. So more than 50% of that had Mario cart on it. Yeah. You know, a third of it had Mario 3d world, new super Mario brothers. You, you know,
[00:39:44] smash brothers, Nintendo land, Splatoon, Mario maker, new Luigi, you know, new super Luigi. You, you know, wind waker, you know, we got 2.37 million sold on, you know, on the Wii U, which when you look at it, right, that's 13 million consoles. So give it to us, you know, so that was still 15% of all game, you know, of all the Wii U's out there had. Wind waker on it,
[00:40:15] you know? And then when you look back, you know, 3ds, Mario cart, like Mario cart is the, like, so far is like the system, you know, the game that's on every system, you know, of course, then you've got Pokemon, of course, Pokemon. Yeah. You know, three different versions, you know, and look, Oh, animal crossing again, you know, wow. So there wasn't another animal crossing since new leaf. Was there?
[00:40:46] No. So you had, um, you had one on the game. Cube is when it launched. You had on the DS DS, you had a, a Wii version. Uh, okay. But it's probably not on. Yeah. See, it's not on the list. Right. Um, yeah, let's, I don't want animal crossing world. Give me just animal crossing.
[00:41:19] Just do the wiki. So here you go. So, uh, platform. So you had animal crossing on the game cube. Then you had wide world on the DS or wild world on the DS. City folk was the one on the Wii. Okay. Then you had new leaf on the 3DS. So I remember new leaf getting a lot of popularity. Yep. Yeah. Um,
[00:41:48] happy home designer was a, um, Amoeba festival on the Wii U. Um, then you had pocket camp came out on the mobile. So on iPads and phones and stuff. And they had new horizons. Yeah. Okay. So yeah, new leaf was great. city folk was good. Um, you know, um, but overall, I, yeah, I mean, I've been playing animal crossing since game cube.
[00:42:18] So what's funny is if you look at this, right, animal crossing released on the 64 in 2001. Wow. It started 64. Yeah. But we didn't, that was only in Japan though. We didn't get it stateside until game cube. Oh, okay. In 2002. No, really? So I've been playing animal crossing since we got it here in the States. Okay. So, you know, 2002 to 2025.
[00:42:47] So 23 years. I've stuck with that franchise. So, but, you know, overall though, it, it's still as impressive, the staying power that all of these games have for Nintendo. Right. And how many of these, when you walk into a store, whether it be GameStop, Target, Best Buy, Walmart, whatever.
[00:43:13] These games are full price still $60 a pop for the most part. Some of them are down to the 50, a couple of down to the 40, but overall though, they're still full price. That shows you the staying power of Nintendo games. Um, and I wish, I wish that PlayStation would get back to this mentality.
[00:43:42] Let's just build the games for us, quit this live service junk and just get back to making games that made PlayStation, PlayStation. Yep. Absolutely. You know, um, and, and Herman, I hope you're sitting around with the folks there, um, and, and talking about getting back to that, especially now that Shuhei is gone, you know, you've, you've now the, the old guard is pretty much gone now.
[00:44:12] Like, yes, Herman was at, at gorilla, you know, for horizon and, and kill zone and stuff. But when you look at the actual PlayStation leadership, the guard is gone. It's all, it's all new stuff. And, you know, you can't keep just going live service because that's what everybody, everybody else is doing. You can't try and, you know, make content and stories because, oh, this is what everybody else is doing.
[00:44:41] Get back to what made PlayStation, PlayStation. Yeah. You know? Um, and then I think everything else will fall in its place. I think going back to our conversation about, um, Microsoft, right. And bringing their games to PlayStation, PlayStation, that is honestly going to bring a level of competition. Like, guess what? We're showing up on your turf with halo gears, Forza,
[00:45:11] you know, potentially fable, perfect dark. We're showing up on your turf and we're going to let your fans play these games. And if you don't put out games that will, that are better than the Xbox games that are coming to your console, that's a huge problem. And I think they need to, they need to address it. Agreed. Uh, you know, as I,
[00:45:40] as I've said before, uh, about Microsoft, uh, they're the ones that have taken the first step. Uh, uh, uh, you know, I hope Sony is considering to follow suit. Yeah. So, I mean, we'll get there hopefully, but, uh, I mean, like I said, I will always own a Nintendo. I don't know if I'll get the, you know, the PlayStation six, like we talked about, you said, Hey, you'll always have a PlayStation.
[00:46:09] You don't know if you'll get the switch to right away or not. We know you'll eventually get the switch too. We know. yeah, absolutely. You'll, you would have a, a PlayStation over a Nintendo. Oh, by far, I am, by far, I am a Sony fanatic fan. So I would definitely go for the PS six way before. Oh yeah. Oh yeah. Yeah. Yeah. And I would always have a Nintendo. I mean, but I've grown up with Nintendo since the NAS days and, and same,
[00:46:38] like I would definitely go, go for the switch too. And like go for Nintendo, but like in later time. So yeah, Sony for me would be the, if they both launched at the same time, you're going PlayStation. I would go play. Oh yeah. For me, I think after how the PS five generation went, I'd probably hold off on getting the PS six at launch just because we know, like with the PS five, it didn't, there weren't games that utilize the hardware for a while, you know? So could we have waited? Yeah. Yeah. We could pull the Jason and waited a little bit, but,
[00:47:09] um, you know, it was still, it was still great having a PlayStation. So, um, God, it's going to be weird doing the outro tonight. We're talking about Jason. Yeah, that's right. Jason's not here. Actually, without Jason's, uh, uh, mean comments, I think I will try out Theo's, uh, exit tonight. Ooh. All right. But anyway, so last week,
[00:47:38] have you gotten to play or watch anything? Um, let's see. Uh, I'm playing, playing. I've, I've been honestly stuck on cyberpunk. I've been just building my guy up and, and net running and slowly doing, uh, the story, uh, missions here and there. Um, I'm like, I think this is going to be the last time I play it after I get done. I won't be, I don't think I'll pick it up for a while.
[00:48:06] Cause I've really like did a lot in this, this run. Yeah. Um, and then I'm going to go finish, uh, some of the, my backlog. Uh, yeah. So that for games, that's, that's been it. Um, watching, um, I've kind of rewatched some, I've been solo, solo leveling. I've been keeping up with, been watching a little bit more anime and some older anime. Uh, I rewatched, uh, Afro Samurai. I got into that for a little bit. I, I, I finished that up. That was,
[00:48:36] it's so good. God, I can remember when that came out. Yeah. It's so good. And then, um, same Taylor Shearden kick. Uh, I finished all the, up the current shows. And now I'm rewatching Yellowstone since the, uh, final, uh, part of the final season has, has come out. So, uh, yeah, I'm going to finish it all. Nice. I, and how about you? Yeah. Yeah. I started to rewatch on, on rebels.
[00:49:07] Oh, yeah. I, I've never finished it out, but somehow I managed to get onto rebels. Tik TOK for a little while. And I was like, I need to, I really need to, to watch this. You want to go down the rabbit hole? Yeah. I went down the rabbit hole. um, you know, cause I thoroughly, I did enjoy a Soka. Right. And I was familiar with the characters like Ezra and, and Sabine and whatnot. So, but dude, once you finally watch it all,
[00:49:35] you're going to have so much more appreciation for, uh, for Ezra. Like the moment I first saw Ezra on, on a Soka, like live action, I was like, Oh my God. Like, and the actor, like when, when you finally see Ezra growing up and like, see where he was, where we left off with him. And then if you ever rewatch a show, you're going to have more of an appreciation. Like, cause the actor did such a good job and, and, uh,
[00:50:05] and you'll have such a more of an appreciation for, you know, the, the Kanan, and, and, uh, Freddie Princes Jr.'s, um, Oh yeah, dude, just the performance. Like it's, Oh yeah. He, he, for me is on one, like, like top 10 list of Jedis. Like Kanan is, is truly one of the best. I, I believe. And I look at it right. And just even through the first like eight episodes, there's just a lot of growth and stuff. Even for Ezra starting to kind of.
[00:50:35] Tap into that ability. And like, I just got done watching the. It's crazy. How those animated, those animated series are so well done and have so much of that depth. Oh, look, it's Pierre. Pierre's in chat. Oh my gosh. I'll respond to yours where they, what up baby? What up yo. Oh, but yeah. Yeah. I would rub dude.
[00:51:04] I'm so excited. That's awesome. The episode where they, you know, Canon and Ezra go back to that, that planet with the, essentially the night creatures. And Ezra like wakes up the big, bad giant one to take on the inquisitor. And I was like, just seeing Ezra to that point where he's really tapping into that force potential. Oh yeah. And why Canon was like, you know, Hey, we need to train you.
[00:51:32] Like really train you because you almost went full on dark right there. I'm so excited when you get to Sam, when, when you get to Sam Witwer doing, doing his thing with Darth Maul. Yeah. Oh man. We all know how much I love Darth Maul. Like we know how much I love Darth Maul. But like. And when you, when you see his, like him getting back to everything. Oh dude. Yeah. Like it is so much. I'm back on my star Wars kick so much that I ordered star Wars decals for the car. Oh, sweet. Sweet.
[00:52:02] I've got the rebel Jedi order merge symbol, you know, and I also have the, the Phoenix squadron logo coming. Oh, nice. Well, which is what, you know, Sabine wears on her armor. And then eventually it's an actual, you know, squadron, you know, right there leading up to the battle of Yavin. And so I've got those coming, but yeah, there's that. And I'm still going through a little bit of the rookie, you know, still on season one on that. I've kind of, Oh, Oh,
[00:52:31] it depends on how like heavy I want to watch. It's like, I think I said that last week, but I'm current on that. I just need to, I think a new episode just came out where I need to watch the new one, but I'm up to season seven. So, yeah. So for me, it's like, I'll get there. Like I'm just kind of, it depends on what I'm in the mood for. Um, and then from a gaming perspective wise, um, still on my shenanigan BS. Nice. I am getting a, a tiny,
[00:53:01] tiny hair to do a little remodeling and expand the museum. Oh no. And, and make it, you know, take over like half my Island. Um, so we'll see how that, you know what I ended up doing with that. Um, God, what, what, what will happen? Hypothetical. What would ever happen if the, the game company decided to give you just a little bit more land? Oh my God. Well,
[00:53:31] STEM city did that on the super Nintendo and ate it all up. Um, God, do you give me more land on that? Oh my God. More land to the Island. I'm just wondering like, how have they, they had to have thought of that by now? Like, what if we let them expand? Like, I think that's what the, you know, happy home Island was, you know, giving us a little bit more to go play with and stuff. Um, I honestly, you know, there, we're going to get it. We're going to get an animal crossing on switch too. And I think that's probably,
[00:53:59] eventually we'll probably do something a little bit more with that. Um, I wouldn't mind seeing them giving it more a cityscape now, you know, going into where you can do skyscrapers and things like that. That'd be really, like truly build your, like from the ground. Like, yeah. You know, you can terraform, you have your, you know, skyscrapers you can build and whatnot. Um, but yeah, you know, and then, um, check out solo leveling fire emblem, you know,
[00:54:28] still working a little bit through that. Um, you know, just working on my, honestly, at this point, I'm just starting to work on my backlog, you know, stuff I need to actually go back and finish, you know, as much as I love fire emblem, I have not finished engage. It's the only one I haven't finished yet that I've been doing. So like I did three houses. Um, I went with the golden deer house for three houses. Um, so this one, I'm still working through it, like getting back into,
[00:54:57] getting back into it is great. So, um, but anyway, so, uh, with that, for those that, you know, did hang out with us in chat tonight and just listen along and whatnot. So hopefully we got up speed on some of the new stuff that's coming, especially with the announcement of Forza coming to the PSA, PS5, you know, you got the switch still cranking out numbers. I would say this to your point here. I think you're right. I think it does. By the time everything's said and done,
[00:55:27] I think the switch will break the DS record. Oh, I think so too. Like that, that's why I think, because I, that's why I think it's not going to be the normal two years cycle. While we see the transition from that to the two, I think it's going to take a little longer for the transition for the Sony, for the switch one to get phased out because it's still selling. And I think, I think it's going to end up having to be that DS to three DS, you know, when they,
[00:55:57] they kept making the DS. Great comparison. We're like, we got to cut it off. Like we can't keep doing two skews and whatnot. So, but, you know, like we, we talked about at the top of the show for all those that, you know, watch us, you know, weekly, whether it's on YouTube over here on Twitch, or they're catching one of the episodes on the audio platforms that, you know, can't reiterate, you know,
[00:56:22] reiterate enough that we will always be that safe place that regardless of age, orientation, your ethnicity, whatever it is, you're welcome to game night. You know, I, I hate the amount of hate that's in the world right now, you know, and against people that just, just want to have, just want to exist, you know, and have their life. Like I just want to sit in their own corner and,
[00:56:51] and not even do anything. And people are still hating on them. So, you know, it was one of those things, you know, this is, this is a safe place once again, because, you know, a lot of places are not celebrating anymore because of the decree. Once again, happy start to black history month. You know, for those folks that aren't really familiar with it, I recommend you go, go learn about it. You know, and,
[00:57:21] and learn about, you know, all those great, you know, black, you know, men and women that have contributed to amazing things in our history that they deserve credit for, you know? And with all of this, right, just please, please be excellent to each other. That's right, everyone. We just want to send everyone out with the same message.
[00:57:52] Yeah, let's just continue to try and have more of an open mind and open perspective. People need to be acknowledged and, and, you know, they are, they need to be recognized. Uh, let's just try and be patient and be open to, uh, hear others' perspectives and sides and, uh, give them that platform to, to speak their, their word and their truth. Um, and overall, let's just, just try to do and be better and, you know,
[00:58:22] lend a helping hand when we can and be safe out there still. You know, the weather is crazy. Uh, it's cold out there, you know, you know, everyone just be, uh, safe and, uh, healthy. And, uh, to, I, I guess I'm going to do, uh, Theo's outro, uh, to all of you. Uh, thank you for watching. Thank you for listening. TTFN, ta-ta for now. Good night, everybody. Good night. See,
[00:58:51] I did it right that time. See, I did it right. Yeah. You missed till next time. You missed till next time. Oh, I did. Till next time, everybody. Till next time.
