Episode 371 - Super Hero Day Says We Are Xbox As Playstation Has A DRM Controversy

On this episode of the podcast we discuss Super Hero Day, Asha Sharma and Matt Booty's letter to the Xbox team and fans, as well as discuss Playstation's new DRM controversy.

[00:00:13] Anyways, alright, welcome to Crashing Game Night. My name is Matt DiUario, your host as always. We got the newest member of Chippendales with us, the beanieed one Gerard Barrera. I have no pants. Hello everyone, how are you nerds? I'm just kidding, no we're being, we're not being inappropriate. I have shorts on. This was just a preliminary...

[00:00:43] I know, that was just a preliminary... I imagine him just walking out onto stage with like a Russian hat since he did the Russian accent and he's just like, I got no pants. That's just his line, this is stick. I have no pants. Hey, that could work! And that's the babyface one, Theo Wolski. What's up y'all? Please change the subject a little bit so it changes what's in my head right now, please.

[00:01:10] We got the maitre d'oeuv services, the man with the couch, the man, the myth, the legend, Jason Ballideo. How's it going guys? How's it going tonight? Jerry, good to have you back bro. Thanks man, yeah I missed you guys. Somebody had to say it, I don't know the other guys, but somebody had to say it Jerry. No, thank you. You were in mystery, I'm sorry. I don't know. I don't want to lie to you, sir.

[00:01:39] The truth is, it may hurt, but it is... It will set you free! Right, it is true. Let me trigger Red Bull real quick, so I can get some wings. That was terrible. I love it. I still love it though. Oh. You can't tell I'm a little delirious right now, so I was just...

[00:02:08] The randomness is gonna be owned up a little bit this way. Yeah, that's okay. I'm alright. I got... Before we get going, I got some collector's corners. Do you really? What's it? What's it? Wow, bro. We're gonna start our collector's corner too. Well, so I didn't... I am prepared for all of you to give me shit about it too. Oh, I got something. I'll go first, I'll go first. You go first. Okay. Oh, you got something? It's been a while. Hell yeah, that's right. It's been a while.

[00:02:38] Nice. Cheers. Just beer, I thought you were eating something too. Alright, go for it. Finally eating something on there. So... First and foremost, after months and me bitching, we've talked about this on the podcast. I finally got it. Yay-o! The Matchbox car that is... This is the 2024. This is the model WRX I have. Okay. This has been like the unicorn...

[00:03:08] You've been searching through that for quite a while. For a while, yeah. Yeah, since the 26 line launched. Um... And the only... I was refusing to pay $15 to $20 for this car. Oh man, like... So... Isn't it normally like 10 bucks? $1.70, sir. Wow. So... That's pretty crazy. Yeah. You know what? Um... The boys and I stopped in the Target to pick some stuff up. I was like... They're like, can we go by the toy section?

[00:03:38] I'm like, sure. Yes. Happened to be going down the toy aisle. I was like, eh, let's check. You know, I always check when I'm in. And it just happened to be right there, second from the front. Wow! One. And I'm like, here. Oh... Very cool. And then, um... I got the... Bar Mere Pop. Oh, nice. Okay. Oh! I hadn't seen this version at all before and they just had one at Target randomly. So I was like, cool.

[00:04:07] You know what? That's actually... That's very funny. So that's actually from the extended version of, uh, I believe, um, Fellowship. Okay. I don't remember this in Fellowship because I just watched Fellowship. So... So when it comes to the scenes when, uh, the Fellowship and their, um, um, their plus ones and all that are arriving in Rivendell.

[00:04:37] Yeah. When Boromir arrived, it, um, flashback to Gundor and it's him, um, giving more of an arousing speech, you get more dialogue from Boromir and then it's that scene when he and, uh, Foromir meet and then the father comes and, uh, kind of ruins the moment. You're right. Okay. Well... And then, so furthermore, go with it. So that's actually... That's actually pretty good. Oh, dope.

[00:05:08] Oh, sick. You got the Lego one? Lego one? Nice. Oh, and it comes with the, uh... It comes with the Sauron mini. With the little figure? Oh, dope. And... And the nameplate. Nameplate, but also... He's got the one ring. Oh, the one ring. Oh, that's cool. So... Oh, right on. Um, and then the comic work realm. I don't remember if I showed this off the last time, but I... Oh, no, you didn't.

[00:05:37] That's a good idea, Batman. No. Is that in Arkham? This is the... This is the special edition statue from Arkham City. Oh, okay. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. So this goes with my Arkham Knight. The statue. Yeah. The statue from Arkham Knight. The big city statue. And the Arkham Asylum cowl that I have. Nice. Oh, nice.

[00:06:02] And then finally, you know me and Smallville and stuff like that. Oh, you got it? Oh, yeah. You got it framed? Oh, no. Very nice. The poster just came in. Oh, cool. The other day. I thought that was the one you took a picture of on the wall. No, you had a picture of it, but that one's a little smaller in sign. You got something. So the picture I sent you guys was me putting this up on the wall. Oh, sweet.

[00:06:30] I ordered this thing like two, three weeks ago for the poster to get it custom printed. But you don't have a similar picture that you have signed from? No. Oh, yes, I do. It's not too similar. It's in front of the video. This print. That's the one that you're thinking of. Oh, yeah. Okay, yeah, yeah. That's signed. So. That's right.

[00:06:59] This is the actual poster. Oh, dope. So your, yeah, your Smallville section is getting a little bigger. Yeah. I mean, my Superman section is four shelves. My Batman section is four shelves. You know, I'm running out of room. But yeah, I got this framed and then I ended up getting all the prints framed too. So the one from this year with the with Tom Tyler and Brandon.

[00:07:29] And then from when Theo and I went to fan expo. So I've got I framed the one of all all for the Superman as much as Dean Cain. I don't want him in that picture. Um, the one with, um, Tyler and Mitzi and then the one with, um, brand or, uh, Mike Rosenbaum and Tom Welling. So those are all up on the wall. They bracket that, you know, it's two and two on each side of this, this poster. And then opposite wall.

[00:07:57] I've got the one of Brandon and, uh, what's her face? Um, from arrow. Oh, uh, and what is her face? Emily. Yeah. Place Felicity. Yeah. Um, and then on the other wall I've got. Yeah, there you go. I'm lyric it. Um, and then I've got the, the flash cast on the other wall too underneath the Batman prints. So, so yeah. All right. So what are we giving you shit for Theo?

[00:08:27] Dope. Dope. I know. I know I've mentioned it before and I brought it up on the stream before there is. Dustin off the Pokemon cards. Oh shit. The super vintage ones. And there was a card show within five minutes of my eyes. I was in my house this past weekend. Shut up. So I did go. Oh no. The temptation. Hell yeah. Oh, give it.

[00:08:56] Let's check it out. Let's see. Let's see if I can learn some etiquette. Oh no. What it feels like. You know, it's like, okay, okay, okay. Going for the first day, make some rounds. Just try. Uh, I didn't buy the first thing that I saw or anything like that. No, you bought the second. Uh, and then like, uh, checked out some cars to walk to around, uh, easily dropped $1,000

[00:09:25] on cars. Oh, my God. Uh, and then I was like, oh shit. I, that's a little overdone, overdue for my first go. I was like, maybe we need to even some things out. So I brought out the cars, went back the next day, uh, try to do some selling, uh, ended up doing some grading instead. Some more cards. Sweet.

[00:09:55] Uh, some of the good cars that I got was this guy, which is the phrase as the moon Breon current market value. $2,000. Jesus. And he got a little bubble. Oh, bubble. Yeah. Oh, dang.

[00:10:19] Uh, the big guy, Mr. Special illustration rare Charizard. Oh, that's cool. How much is that one? Uh, that one ran me four 50. God. God. God. God. God. God. God. God. Oh, I wasn't too bad.

[00:10:46] I mean, I, the guy traded with, uh, I also bought those cards from him. Uh, shout out to Dylan. He did a great, he did an awesome job as a vendor. He was really nice. He's taught me some things. Uh, I def. I do feel like he got a pretty good deal from me, uh, especially from vintage cards, but he took 12 cards and, uh, gave me 3,300 for him. So. Dang. Okay.

[00:11:15] Were these some of the ones that you, it was 75%. So it would, it would have been more, but were they, uh, some of the ones that you just had graded? Nope. None of the ones that I got graded and none of them were from the base set. They were actually from, uh, like Neo destiny and some of the challenge cards. Wow. Which speaking of that, dude, that video that we were sharing on tick tock was hilarious

[00:11:45] about what PSA does crack them open, break it. Oh, wait, no, we're not going to give you any value. So, uh, but that's even a true story to that video about the Deoxys. Have you heard this? Uh, so, uh, there is a true story out there. A guy, um, had a like one of 10 or something like that.

[00:12:12] That's out there in the world for a gem 10 of Deoxys and it's a lenticular art style. So it changes when you turn it, he sends it into, he had it already graded PSA gem, uh, gem 10. Um, Oh, I think I remember you sending me this video. Yeah. But, uh, the, but since PSA kind of like controls the market really for everything,

[00:12:40] uh, it got to the point where a newer cert with them would get you more money. So he sent it back for a new cert just to get the new cert. Cause it's not going to change condition or anything. It's a 10, uh, turns out they ended up, uh, damaging it while taking it out of their case.

[00:13:05] And, uh, and because it was damaged, they downgraded the grade to a six. And it was their fault. It was their fault. And that was like the most insurance that they would give for it or whatever is they go. It's a fair market price. $20,000 for, for the card. Damn. And he's like, well, but the last cell was for $45,000. Yes. Jesus.

[00:13:35] You know, the best thing we're going to offer was like, but the sale was PSA who sold it for $45,000. That's ridiculous. Yep. So they're, so they're just playing, they're just playing the market there as much as well and just ruining it pretty much. But yeah. So now, uh, as far as I know, he's like suing PSA for all that I would too.

[00:14:02] So, but no, all these cards that I got, uh, from the show, uh, I'm so I, I, while I am getting cards, I'm getting cards that I plan to keep practically forever. Um, so I'm getting all of these graded and they're just, are you going to go to the, you're going to go to the new place for that? Yeah. I'm going for tag. Yeah. Cool. Cool.

[00:14:26] So an actual after report with why it's great the way it is. Yeah. So before we get diving in too far to some of the gaming news tonight, um, today, as we record this on the 28th is superhero day. Do Pahino. So it's kind of funny. Hey, Jerry's wearing Captain America. I'm wearing my welcome to Smallville, Kansas shirt.

[00:14:53] And on the back is a picture of Superman taken off from the farm. It says, you know, where superheroes are raised. Um, but I want to, you know, yes, we all have our favorites within DC and Marvel and everything like that. Although Jason's tired of Marvel. It's okay. If you're going to talk Marvel, it's okay. Give me that. I actually want to do this from a different side of the equation. I want to give us. Zone out for a second.

[00:15:22] No, I'm going to. Nope. I'm going to give a shout out to the real life superheroes that are out there. So the first responders, you know, um, the doctors in the ER room, heck my, I'm going to give a shout out to my own personal cardiologist because you know what? He could have been like every other doctor and not listen to my concerns that I thought there was something wrong with my valve. He could just said, nah, we're okay.

[00:15:52] You know, we're just going to do this. But instead he said, you know what? Let's do an echo. Give you some peace of mind that there's nothing wrong with the valve and it's still the same. You know, if he had did that, this could have been a very different conversation come next year because I am, you know, with my heart. And everything I am border. I'm getting close to the point where there would be permanent damage to the lower chamber of my heart. You know, if we kept letting this go.

[00:16:21] So he literally listening to me literally is saving my life. Right. Which is huge. And, you know, and then even then we shout out to the actors that are out there, you know, that take the time at cons and everything to listen to people, show empathy.

[00:16:43] I saw a story get posted because I follow Matthew Lillard on social media and a guy that he met 18 months ago at a convention, right before he was getting ready to go into rehab, shared this story of their interaction and everything. And, you know, how he's clean and everything. And Matthew Lillard still responded.

[00:17:11] He's like, dude, first, thank you for tagging me this to glad you, you know, you're still staying clean. I remember that whole interaction, you know, and, you know, it's, you know, if, if you ever get a chance to meet your heroes, you know, whether that's, you know, grow up, you know, liking, you know, Michael Jordan or Shohei Otani or whoever it is, you know, do it. Go, go, go take those chances.

[00:17:40] You know, we've got, you know, especially go to conventions, you get to meet so many people and all these actors love hearing the stories of how the characters have helped you and whatnot. Um, so yeah, so happy national hero day. So you're saying, I don't think we've met a single rude person at a, at a con ever. No, no.

[00:18:10] I mean, everyone's been great that we've talked to, you know, of course we've been paying them. So money talks, but you know, The thing is if I want people to be nice to me, I should start paying them. So is that. I would also even, I would also even say, uh, I'm going to want two 50 a week. Oh my gosh.

[00:18:35] Uh, I would even say like the celebrities we've met on just randomly on the floor and, and have run into just naturally, um, have been really open in like, we've even conversated. Dude, we've conversated with Rufio, you know, uh, just, just hanging out and just, you know, saying hi and, you know, giving him a little like, Hey dude, we appreciate what you did. And we, we love this. Like obviously from hook and everything. He was super cool.

[00:19:05] Yeah. Yeah. He was very personal. And like, he told him how many, uh, how many, like the first couple of places he stopped on, on that side of the floor. And he was, yeah, it was cool. I mean, he was super chill at, uh, fan expo. Mm. Oh, that's right. Yeah. I even, we, we talked, I was like, dude, we've, we've actually all met. It's like E3. Yeah. God, that was so long ago, you know? Yeah.

[00:19:35] To even casually talk with him about like, uh, his, his kids and. Yeah. Uh, his, his project with a date everything and all that kinds of stuff. And it was cool. Oh, cool. But yeah, I mean, but huge shout out to the people that we all look at heroes, whether they're the comic book side and we're utilizing, you know, Superman, Batman, Captain America, Iron Man, like all of those.

[00:19:57] But then also the real life superheroes, you know, the EMTs, the first responders that don't get the credit that they normally should get, you know, the nurses and doctors, all of that. Agreed. And, and even the teachers that are out there because, you know, teachers have a way to, you know, depending on the teachers you get, have a way of impacting your life in such a way.

[00:20:22] You know, I look at my, my photography teacher in high school, he noticed something and he pushed me and kept pushing me to, to get, do the next level. Assault, bro. So. No. That's assault. Shit. Nah, it wasn't that kind. It wasn't that kind, Jay.

[00:20:45] So anyways, so Jay, I'm going to start off on a game tonight that you love and is near and dear to your heart. Hmm. Persona? No. Where? There's quite a few. Yeah. That's quite a few. Where is, where was Jason normally? Anytime.

[00:21:14] We needed to find him at E3. Ah, right. Oh, uh, square Enix booth. Um, final fantasy tactics. No, final fantasy 14. That's right. Sorry. 14, 14 online. That's okay. That's okay. Matt's been playing the shit out of, uh, tactics. So it's okay. That's right. I'll give you that one, Jerry. I don't miss you. I don't miss you anymore. Okay. Damn.

[00:21:46] He's got a tail now. I was just like, so they had, uh, final fantasy, uh, fan fest. Um, and last week final fantasy 14. Yep. This past weekend. And it was announced that final fantasy 14 is coming to the switch to an August.

[00:22:12] Uh, um, now Jason, this is where I want to get your take on this is that they're going to require a separate subscription to play on the switch too. So if you happen to have a copy on like they're mentioning PS five, Xbox PC, which already has its own subscription, you're going to have to have a separate subscription for switch two. If you want to play, it is going to have cross progression.

[00:22:42] So no matter what system you're playing it on, you're still going to be progressing, but you have to have two separate subscriptions. I don't get that. I get it. How do you feel like? Definitely. So you need to have, I don't think it'd be the exact same thing. Yeah. So, I mean, you're just saying that you need to have a switch online and then the square Enix one. No. No. So what you're going to have to do is you're going to have to have the square

[00:23:08] Enix subscription on your switch too, and you'll have to have it on your PS five. You'll have to have two separate, uh, square Enix subscriptions. So pretty much. Oh yeah. That's been for every copy that you have. Uh, yeah. Uh, I have experience with that. Cause that's the same thing with destiny. Like every platform that I played it on, I'd have to have, and I even have to buy the expansions separately. Right. That is true. Hold on. Okay.

[00:23:38] Cause I feel like, hold on. Oh yeah. That, that makes sense. And it's fine. It's yeah. I'm rereading it. Cause I want to make sure I get it. It's yeah. It's, it's obvious because if you play only on switch, if you play only on PlayStation, if you only play on wherever, um, you're having multiple copies.

[00:24:02] And again, just like Theo said, it's having like having two accounts almost. Um, should it be? Yeah. I mean, I'm not going to lie. Yeah. Keep, keep the game going. Um, how many people are going to make that switch to play on a switch to? I think, I think that's the question. That, I think that's the question we've been waiting for.

[00:24:29] That is more of the question of why, why go? I get it. You're going to another platform, but like, like going back to Theo's comparison. Yeah. Going back to Theo's comparison. Like I, I, I, I totally see the subscription part of it now. Like I get it. That's like, once again, if you wanted to play, uh, on Xbox and, uh, PS five, you know, you

[00:24:56] need two different subscriptions and pay for the expansions for both consoles. Right. Well, at least I don't know if they're, I don't know if they do it for FF 14, but at least destiny, like introduce cross play, but at least you don't have at some point you eventually did not have to have multiple platforms in order to play with everybody. Well, I mean, yeah, that's, I mean, like it's been cross platform for a while since

[00:25:22] PS three, it's been, uh, or PS four. I'm sorry. PS four. It's been cross platform. Um, but the biggest thing is that it's, you know, there's been a controller aspect, which is okay. You know, some people, I know a lot of people that do play controller. It doesn't, uh, hinder their things. What I'm curious is because of how graphically crazy it can get.

[00:25:52] Um, like when I was playing on the PS four, I did have to lower a lot of resolutions, um, because you know, just like, and you guys know from a lot of other MMOs when a lot of people are doing a lot of things, there's a lot of sprites. Crazy. You know, you're not just like, Oh, you know what? I got one or two. No, no. You're a lot of spells.

[00:26:20] A lot of attacks. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I'm watching the 4th of July. Literally. I have to say the, the few times you asked me to, to like sub him, I, I've never been more overwhelmed with my life. Yeah. Like, am I doing it? That's just like, that's a small fight. Keep pressing. All right. That's a small fight too. Yeah. That was ridiculous.

[00:26:43] Like you, you have a lot of other mechanics that happen and Nintendo, I don't know. Well, it's, you know, you don't know if that's, if the switch to really handle it. I don't agree with it because I'd rather it see, I'd rather be seen on Xbox, honestly, before a switch. It will, it is on Xbox. It is already on Xbox series.

[00:27:14] That happened back in, I want to say October. Yeah. Like, you're kind of reaching on this one. I'm not going to lie to square. Like, I love you, but. You think you're, you think it's going to really depend on how it can handle the graphics or, or the, um. I don't know. I feel like. Real time fights. I feel like I have to commend them for at least like. Trying?

[00:27:42] Essentially doing everything that they possibly can in order to try to keep it alive. I mean, like, yeah, you're introducing a potential audience that would have never been able to play it before. That's true. Those, like, at least you're trying to keep it alive by, and even if it doesn't fully make sense, at least they're trying, I guess.

[00:28:05] But otherwise, I don't know what you think, Jason, but like, is FF14 close to an end of life type of thing? That might be why they're trying to reach. They haven't killed off 11 yet. Like. It is getting close. It is getting close. But it has not reached the end of it.

[00:28:32] Close as in, like, maybe the, the player base is slowly dwindling where it still has some life. Okay. It's, it's honestly, it is very, uh. So it's on its last leg. You're either a big raider, you're either a big raider or you're just a regular normie casual. Okay. I would, I would imagine you'd say the, like, uh, that the switch player would probably be the more casual. Right.

[00:29:03] Yeah. Uh, concurrent on steam is 35,000 total of active. It's dipped below a million when you look at everything. Okay. Yeah. That's not too bad. Eventually they're going to, they're going to have to make, they are going to make the decision to close the servers when it's getting that low. Yeah. I mean, destiny still hasn't closed their servers and their concurrence is under 7,000. Yeah. Oh, dang.

[00:29:32] We, we were part of the number that was keeping them up. Yeah. You know, we've, we've gone back to playing sack boy. Um, anyways, so, you know, I, I, I applaud square for trying. The question is to your point, Jay, is how I hate to say this. It is a switch. How dumbed down are the graphics going to be? Yeah. Exactly.

[00:30:01] So it can handle it. You know, yes, it's supposed to be the switch two is on par, supposed to be on par with the PS4, but it's still a switch. Exactly. Just saying. So now let's, let's head on over to a PlayStation land because they've got some controversy going on right now that they've stepped, they've stayed very, very quiet on as this has gained quite a bit of steam.

[00:30:32] Um, and there's different things going on right now with this, but as it looks like with the March update, they were looking like they might've slipped in some DRM restrictions, kind of like, uh, metric did with the, uh, announcement of the Xbox one where, you know, they were saying you had to check in every, you know, 30 days or whatever to keep your licenses.

[00:31:02] Um, now where this is kind of getting, you know, mixed opinions is, is that somebody did chat with PlayStation's AI chat bot saying, Hey, is this legit? And the, the AI bot said, yes, you have to check in every 30 days. Um, and then another chat bot said, no, you don't.

[00:31:27] As long as it's on your, you've downloaded the, the game, the digital game onto your PS5 and it's your primary console. You're fine. Um, it, it is something where, you know, you've seen screenshots where people are actually showing, you know, how many days are left when it expires.

[00:31:50] Um, some people have said it, it is, um, just a glitch, but we all know that, you know, we have to be connected to the internet to verify our licenses for PlayStation plus games. Right. I think this is going to, I hate to say this because yes, we all love PlayStation here. PlayStation has been making some really stupid moves lately.

[00:32:20] It wouldn't surprise me if somebody actually try, was actually trying to slip this in to see if people would notice. And someone did think, you know, and make it public, you know, or not make it public. Right. But I think ultimately when we look at the, the grand scheme of things is I, I think this is coming

[00:32:47] and I think it's going to be coming for not only digital, but it's becoming for physical the way the industry is starting to shift. If you like, wait, because of physical being only a license key and not, because that's what a lot of people don't realize is that yes, it's a physical disc. You pop in a machine and play it. But here's the catch is if the firmware on your system is set up to recognize when the

[00:33:16] license was granted. And when you last checked in on said license, and if you haven't, they can revoke said license that has always been there. Anytime there's a, you know, I take it back. It's been there since we've gone internet connectivity, right? To where systems check in and check your firmware. So regardless if this is a glitch or not, how y'all feel it?

[00:33:45] Like, do you agree that they were trying to just like do something a little dirty and, and slip it in to see if anybody would notice? And even if it wasn't, do you guys see this coming down the road? Well, so I feel like, yes, they're slipping it and sneakily, especially with like the 30 day check-in or whatever. But I do have a feeling that it's inevitable that they're going to be like, okay, we're I don't know.

[00:34:15] I mean, on the other side, like this could be fake. Oh, you know, this could be fake. Yeah. No. So this is, but my point is, is that we know this for like even Apple and their digital media or even prime video and their digital media, nobody owns any of their stuff that they've purchased. It's on loan. So same with the digital and the license keys, they still hold the rights. And there's, I'm sure there's something in the terms and services that nobody reads that they're just already there. And now they're just trying to slip in.

[00:34:44] It's like, oh, now even more so you have to check in every 30 days. You know, we, we talked about, you know, with whatever the switch that we know we talked about with the switch that one time, right. Where I pulled up the actual terms of service and it literally said in there that you're granted a license and they can revoke it at any time. I remember when they were seeing a switch twos being bricked because we weren't doing what

[00:35:14] they were supposed to do. But case in point, this is one of many different screenshots and people are actually like taking pictures of their computers to show that this is legit conversations that they're having with their AI chatbots. So it's still the fact that they're using AI chatbots as their source is not. No, no, no, no. This isn't. No, this is PlayStation's official online assistant. It's an AI chatbot.

[00:35:42] So when you type in, it's still, whether or not it's, I don't, it's not matter whether or not it's an AI chatbot. It's just the fact that they're using, I would still wait for like an official statement or something of this information is so very strong. That being said, I can understand that argument to a point, but this is PlayStation going, Hey, when I go to them to, for support, they're doing the whole, Hey, I'm going to hook you up

[00:36:10] with AI first and then eventually get you to somebody that you can talk to. So regardless, this is coming from PlayStation officially. Like that has been kind of the standard practice usually, you know? So for their AI chatbots to be saying, yeah, it's legit in some conversations. And sometimes it's not, I feel like that that's not necessarily PlayStation saying it's legit

[00:36:37] because I mean, still an AI is still just hot, whatever it is. So it doesn't know whether or not something's true or not either. Yeah. That's why I would wait for an official statement. Well, and that's the, that's been the problem is that Sony has been very, very quiet on this. They have not said one. Which is scary. That's not a, that's, that's also not looking good. So, well, cause I mean, if they do say something, they're either admitting that that being correct. Yeah.

[00:37:07] As well as the AI bot giving out potentially confidential information, or they're saying that their AI is completely screwed up and they need to fix it. So it's a lose, lose situation. It's a lose, lose. Yeah. But that being said, you've got enough people that are, you know, already worried about losing their rights and everything to what they buy. You would think that Sony would at least come out and say, Hey, your stuff says this is the, your stuff is safe. Is this for digital games?

[00:37:36] Well, so they're saying it's for digital, but here's my thing is I think it's going to, I think if this, this were something to be getting rolled out, it, it would be at the console level and it's for all the, all your games, it's going to be digital and physical eventually because physical terms of service. Correct. And your physical disc. I don't care what anybody says. If you go read the actual licensing agreement, when you actually open up your game or you

[00:38:06] put it in, it literally says, this is a license that can be revoked at any time. So that's already built in and baked in. So if your system is already updated, the latest firmware that says, Hey, check this very specific thing against when the system last, the console last checked in, if they don't match, guess what? Shuts it off. You know, I just find it kind of ridiculous that it's the game level.

[00:38:36] At least that's my understanding. Cause like, I mean, there's so many people that have such a huge libraries. Like what are you going to have to check in on every game every 30 days, just so you get to keep it. It's going to be your con like from what this has all been said is it's third, your console itself checking in with PlayStation every 30 days. That was a matter of the game.

[00:39:01] Um, but even then, like, this is still like, I, this is shades of the Xbox with the Xbox one all over again. Yeah. And I don't know. I think I get shades of Nintendo with bricking switch twos. Yeah. Yeah. But I'm still surprised by that too. That is, that is still quite shocking to me as well. Um, that was going to be a thing with switch eventually.

[00:39:30] It was like, Oh, you're not going to play for 30 days. We'll just go and brick you for a little while. So let me ask this. If I know we're in the day and age where the systems are always checking in anyways. So for some of us, it doesn't really matter, but does this really, if, if something like this does come to fruition and this was whatever this is, it's they're testing something for the future.

[00:39:57] If PlayStation does go the DRM route, how does this change your perception of PlayStation as a brand that you would want to support? If they're going to feel like, if they're going to turn around and say, Hey, if you don't check in in 30 days, we're yanking the license. I mean, for me personally, I just don't play it enough. So I probably just at least drop my PlayStation plus and that's it because like, I'm on there

[00:40:24] frequent enough or I'll be more selective with my games all the time. But otherwise, I mean, I feel like in particular, because of my lack of frequency, I wouldn't really care that much. Yeah. Personally, at least. So while this is happening, while PlayStation is mired in the DRMs, as well as people are

[00:40:53] thinking that the whole age verification is going to be going global instead of just Ireland and England, which that's not been substantiated at all. Um, Asha Sharma over at Xbox, along with Matt Booty have been quite like not quietly in some ways reshaping everything that is Xbox right now. Not only, you know, we talked about last week, which Jerry wasn't here for that, but they lowered the price of, um, game pass.

[00:41:22] They had ID at Xbox today. Um, Asha is really starting to change the focus. Um, now Phil Spencer has always been a great advocate for the gamers and stuff like that. And I think that a lot of the decisions that were being made at Xbox prior to Asha coming in were partly from upper management, like above his pay grade saying you need to go do these things.

[00:41:52] Um, but in her, in this, you know, memo to the entire Xbox team from, from Matt and from Asha, right? Yeah. You've got, you know, paragraph saying, Hey, you know, trying to cheer us up because this is the 25 year anniversary of Xbox, um, this year, you know, cause I can remember playing the original with the big Duke controller and halo, but the first thing out of the gut,

[00:42:21] it's like what we have to do. Like first thing players are frustrated. Really? The, the Xbox community is, is very frustrated, both from a cost perspective, the messaging, the fact that you're taking what they perceived as exclusives. They bought your console for going everywhere, you know, PlayStation and whatever. Um, but at least they are addressing it and it's the beginning of their, of their, you

[00:42:51] know, statement to go forward. So correct. That is a good sign. You know? So, I mean, this is, this letter is available out on, on Xbox wire. Um, but you know, is she, they go into really good kind of details about what, what they need to do. They acknowledge that, you know, the industry is, is competitive, which we know it is, you

[00:43:19] know, um, you know, they go on to say, Hey, more than, you know, more than half of the market's revenue players and growth are happening outside of core markets. You know, so things that they haven't really seen before, um, especially with Western studios, they go on to say what they want to do for the next era. Um, and they're coming back to really the old mantra of what Xbox used to be, which is

[00:43:50] Xbox needs to be where the, you know, everybody plays, which back in the, the latter part of the original Xbox and the three 60 year, we all know that's where everybody was playing. It was on Xbox. Yeah. I was even on Xbox for the three 60 year. Yeah. I was on it for, I had a three 60. I had a three 60 and that's all I had. I didn't have a PlayStation really at the time it was all Xbox.

[00:44:18] Um, you know, like I only owned like one console at a time back then. Um, but you know what they're actual driving towards, they are, they're going for priors, hardware, content, experience, and services. So from a hardware perspective there, they want to stabilize the gen nine, the liver, they're currently making project Helix right now, and they want it to lead in performance

[00:44:47] and play, you know, play your console and PC games. So they're going to still have the steam store on there. You know, they want to be best in comfortable, you know, high performance accessories, which, you know, honestly for a while they're like the Xbox controller was the best one, you know, and now PlayStation is really up their game. And I love the PS five controller, but I also love the switch controller as well.

[00:45:15] Um, you know, I still want to build on their ecosystem content growing center in their portfolio, evolve their third party partnerships and their five-year slate expand in China, the emerging markets, mobile audiences, um, maintain and grow in live games and long-term stewardship, which, you know, going live games we've seen can be a double-edged sword.

[00:45:42] Um, you know, elevate creator centric platforms, you know, Minecraft, Della Scrolls, Sea of Thieves, the experience. This is, I think, you know, them bringing this out right here, fix the fundamentals for players and partners because the Xbox experience for the hardcores has been some of the same, but if you're coming into that, man, some of that stuff is really convoluted, harder to find, like really hard to navigate.

[00:46:10] And it's not a great experience. Um, you know, they want to look at overhauling, you know, discovery, customization, social personalizations, services, fortified game pass, return the business. Essentially they're, they're doing a complete overhaul of the company of Xbox. Yeah. Yeah. Dude, even the new logo is more of the new stuff. Yeah.

[00:46:39] The new fix this all before Helix gets here. Right. Because even they went and did a new logo. It's a bold plan. I think it's, um, I think it's, uh, I'm sorry. I forgot what, who is the new, um, CEO. It's Asha Sharma is the, basically the new Phil Spencer. Right. I remember she was getting a lot of flack for like just getting the job and all that.

[00:47:03] And I think, I think this is a bold and, uh, and, uh, you know, a hopeful statement to, to, to bring Xbox, Xbox back. And, um, you know, I think, uh, obviously it was a good strategy to, um, start it by lowering the price of game paths. Yep. And this, uh, statement here, you know, everything that they have planned, hope, I hope that they can achieve it and they get to it because that would be great.

[00:47:32] Uh, cause we want, uh, we, as the gamers do want, uh, we do like competition and we want, you know, all three of the Holy Trinity, uh, you know, back and back where they're, um, funny you say that. Yeah. The other day is that the gaming industry is at its strongest when the Trinity is at its best. Hmm.

[00:47:59] You know, um, and they're going with it like the, we are Xbox. They're like, Hey, we've got our master plan. We need to transform, you know, our best work happens when the full stack moves together. Microsoft gaming describes our structure. Um, so when they look at it, like they've got a whole list, they're like at our best. We there, they earn every player, protect their art, stay rebellious, progress over, uh,

[00:48:24] progress over perfection, signal over ceremony core before more outwork. The problem speed is learning makers or managers and clarity is kindness. Like this feels like the original days of Xbox again, like that whole mentality. Yeah. You know, and they even quote is like the final paragraph of this whole letter is over the

[00:48:52] last five years, Xbox initiative gone through an unimaginable amount of change. This team has continued to deliver through our community. Thank you for staying focused on what matters. 62 days in, we're proud of how we've honored our commitments of great games, return of Xbox and future play. We're here to do the most creative and courageous work of our lives. And that's what we'll do together. Like this is the mantra of what it used to be, you know?

[00:49:18] And I think that really like you, you nailed it right there, Jerry, is that it is its best when they're there. So how do you guys, what are your thoughts? I mean, Jerry, you were saying this, but like Jason, Dio, how do you feel about where Xbox is trying to go? Like fix themselves?

[00:49:48] I mean, we've been saying they need to fix themselves for like five years. So, I mean, about time. It's out of reflection. It only took a few in order to have some, but still. For real. So let me ask this. I don't know what more else you want to try and do. Right. So if they go back to exclusives, so say after Fable releases on PlayStation, right? They need to.

[00:50:17] They needed to five years ago. Yes. But what I'm saying is if they go back to being, so say 1-1-2027, they go back to being exclusive, exclusive, exclusive. Yeah. Yeah. We had this conversation about that whole 12 to 18 month, whatever they look at for exclusives, right? If they even move games over to other consoles. If they go straight exclusivity, the games don't show up on PlayStation or anything like that.

[00:50:48] If the games, they're banging out, go back to being what Xbox used to be in great first party titles. Would you consider getting Xbox? Or would you just stay strictly PlayStation and Switch? How much would it be, though, is the question. And at the same time, too, how good are the games? Because if you're giving me Redfall, if you're giving me like, and then three years later,

[00:51:19] you give me Fable, possibly. And then you're like, that's three years at the PlayStation. I'm not even going to look at it. You have to check in 30 days. What if you have to do that? I'd rather check in every 30 days. Like, you know, like, that's not that difficult. You know how long 30 days is? That's a long time, sir. Like, you literally just have to be at home and turn on your console.

[00:51:49] And you're good for another month. Like, it's, you guys make it sound like it's the end of the world. But I mean, like. It's not necessarily the end of the world. It's still an annoyance. No, but I'm just, I think. I think the reason we're kind of so reluctant against it is because where are they going to draw the line next?

[00:52:16] I mean, like, things come out once a week. We are, I mean, I get it. Maybe the younger generation might be more, like, chaotic. I'll just use that word. But, like, we were, we lived on more, like, hey, once a week you had to watch a show and then you had to be there the following week or you missed out and then you lose the entirety of what the hell's going on because you missed the week.

[00:52:44] Or you remember the times where you actually had to watch an ad before you could watch your show? Yeah. Or no. Commercial. Or you had the commercial break to actually use the bathroom, get some food, whatever you do, you know? But we now live in this time where, like, every seven seconds I'm like, all right, like, twitching out or, like, finding the next thing or skip ad, skip ad, skip, you know? Or you pay the little extra so you don't have ads at all.

[00:53:14] Or you pay the extra fee so you don't have to do it. I mean, it might look like it's heading towards that direction. I mean, it's already started with a lot of stuff where, you know, you can not pay for ads. You can not pay for this. You can not pay for, like, that. So what might be the thing? Yeah, they start this, oh, it's a 30-day, you got to check in. Oh, my God, 30 days. You know, easy. Easy.

[00:53:44] And then, or you pay $5 extra a month and you say, oh, I don't have to check in no more. Or, like... You know what? That wouldn't... You know what? You have a separate PlayStation tier for five bucks more. You don't have to check in. Like... No check-ins. It's like, oh, you know, because your account is universal now. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, honestly, like, you look at now, like, we have all these streaming apps, right?

[00:54:12] Is my PlayStation has the Apple TV app on it, right? So instead of having the Apple TV on the TV, I could have a PlayStation on my TV. And if I'm constantly watching, you know, shows or whatever on Apple TV, it's already checking in to the internet. You know? You know? I think what sucks, though, is that we're at that point now that everything...

[00:54:38] It's so much cheaper for them to produce things digitally than do them on discs and stuff that you start... You are seeing companies phasing out physical. Because they cut out the middleman. And I think that... The full middleman. The only industry right now that's still keeping physical going right now is books, right?

[00:55:04] I mean, like, still, do you trust that market right now? What? Books? Yeah. The rate... I keep buying Bookster. I mean, ever since the start of the Kindle, Amazon Kindle, I'm still surprised that printed is still around. Exactly. Like, when's the last time you went to the donut shop and you bought yourself a newspaper? No.

[00:55:34] Exactly. Do you remember when Starbucks actually used to sell the papers and everything? You'd walk in, like, that's how I got my Back to the Future one. Went to a Starbucks. Yeah. No, they had the USA Today. Not since I was probably working there. Weird. Yeah. Yeah. When you think about it, yeah, that's so weird. How rough, isn't it? You know? Yeah. So... I couldn't even tell you...

[00:56:00] I couldn't even tell you now where to go buy a paper. Print media itself. I would still think, like, maybe the machines in front of the... Well, no. When's the last time you saw a newspaper machine on the street corner? That's right. A newspaper stand. When's the last time you saw a newspaper stand? Yeah, especially since I'm sure a newspaper doesn't cost only 50 cents anymore. It's like $3. We still got it at Simone's. Yeah. Jerry, it's still at Simone's, bro. Damn.

[00:56:30] Yeah. But I mean, that's the fact. That's the fact. You know? Is it that we're old or just time moves too fast? Stuff changes too fast. I'm going to go with that other one. I'm going to go with the stuff changes too fast. Yeah. Too fast. I can remember... Hold on. Because I can remember life before internet. So... So can I. Yeah, so can I. And it sucked. You were what? Hold on.

[00:56:58] You were in diapers at that point. The worst. I was a sophomore in high school when AOL came out. Yeah, I was at least in middle school. AOL, I was in middle school. I was in middle school, bro. Yeah. No, I mean, I think what's funny is like I was reminiscing about that. Like, I can't believe like next year I'm going to be 30.

[00:57:28] It's been 30 years since I graduated. That right there. Theo, your whole time moving too fast and everything. Like, how the hell did 30 years pass already? Who's the fucker that put on like fast forward in the Matrix? Right? You're watching life at like 1.5 speed. Hmm. So...

[00:57:57] Anyways, start off. Jay, what you watching? What you playing? You know, I attempted to go back to Last of Us a little bit. Last of Us 2. I need to finish a lot of my backlog games. And just deciding, you know what? Just take an hour at a time. Just pick up a game. Do an hour. And that's it. You know. It's still progress.

[00:58:27] Yeah, exactly. So, and then we picked up Pocopea. So... How is that? How is it? Like, everyone is saying really great things about it. If you like Pokemon, it is literally Pokemon Animal Crossing. Right. Which we knew that's what it was going to be. Like, to put it into very basic terms. It is... It is Pokemon Animal Crossing. Essentially, that's what it is. That's the idea of it. Yeah.

[00:58:57] But instead of just having... There's more to it, but that's kind of like... You get skills and stuff. Yeah, you get skills. Instead of just having villagers, you can try to fill out that Pocodex, bro. And you get everybody at home. You can have them follow you. Yeah, it's pretty cool. I like it. I enjoy watching my wife play it. You know, like... She's the one playing it. And here you are. Do you want to play it? Do you want to play it? I'm like, nope.

[00:59:27] I remember when you bought the Switch, too, and you were thinking you were just going to resell it. That was a point. Yeah. But, yeah. Do you still have your Switch one as well? No. That one we traded, actually. Long story short, we traded it for some tattooing tools. Oh. So, yeah. That got traded out. Doesn't wrong with that? No, not at all.

[00:59:59] And then, yeah. So, she's been playing that. I've been playing Last of Us. So, it kind of works. And we just... She will play and, like... And now I'll play at the same time. And I'm like, yo, check this out. But, yeah. Nice. Deal. We lost Jerry. He disappeared. It's okay. Yeah, it's okay. Jerry, how about you, man? This is great.

[01:00:29] Hey, it's a good thing we're recording. We didn't just edit a minute. He needs better internet. Still primarily been playing... MTGA. With the new sets. Dusted off the Minecraft world for a little bit. Really been into 3D printing a lot. Stuff like that. Yeah. And I mean... And I guess I've been a little obsessed with...

[01:01:00] Going through my Pokemon cards and trying to get ready to trade or sell or whatever, trade up and kind of make a... I guess make a new collection. Just of the special illustration rares that I like. It's like being... It's like going to Artist Alley for Pokemon cards. So it's... Oh, yeah. Really bad for me and my wallet. Yeah. I know exactly what you're talking about, man. Mike. Right.

[01:01:29] Matt knows what I'm talking about with me and Artist Alley. Yeah. Yeah, I was just... You know, that was the one thing with GalaxyCon. I was disappointed there wasn't anything for Artist Alley. It wasn't great for Artist Alley, no. Fan Expo was fantastic. Made me like... It had a good variety. Yeah. It was just a lot of the same things at GalaxyCon. Yep. So, uh... Beanied1 is officially saying he's got internet issues.

[01:01:58] Internet issues. Huh. What a weenie. Bro, mobile hotspot or join Zoom on your phone. Zoom, zoom, zoom. Zoom, zoom, zoom, zoom. Anyways. So, Matt, what's you been playing? Not much. Honestly, I played a little bit of Final Fantasy Tactics. Yeah. Tactics is the only thing I've really been playing a little bit. Other than when we've done Sackboy, right? The other night. Sure. Just been watching a lot of stuff. Just like random...

[01:02:28] Like, there's no rhyme or reason to it. So... Okay. I did the full rewatch of... You know, Killing Joke again. I am going through all the extended editions of Lord of the Rings. Wow. Okay. Yeah. Dude, Apple. Apple had them on sale 40 bucks for all six. Wow. Hobbit and Lord of the Rings. So, I got them both.

[01:02:57] So, I'm working through Lord of the Rings right now. You know, Hobbit... Hobbit was good, but it wasn't necessarily my favorite. Because I think they kind of just... They took a book that was the third the size of Lord of the Rings. And made it into three movies. They extended it out so much, right? But... Oh, so you didn't like the whole Hobbit series or just the first one? The whole Hobbit series. Like... I thought it could have been shorter. I like Desolation of Smaug. Well, no. Don't get me wrong.

[01:03:25] I love how they did Smaug and Benedict Cumberbatch was perfect for Smaug. But I think they just stretched out things and added stuff in that they didn't necessarily have to have in there. So, but yeah. It's been... Just a lot of watching just random movies. And just because I haven't... Like this last week, there's been a lot of, you know, fatigue and tiredness and stuff from dealing with everything with my heart.

[01:03:54] That I just kind of just took it easy. Just laid down on the couch. There you go. You know, watch movies and stuff like that. That's okay, man. That's okay. You know, because right now I'm in the home stretch. You know, it's three weeks from tomorrow is surgery day. Crazy. You know, I go through my final test on Thursday. Got to go get the dental clearance to make sure I don't have abscesses.

[01:04:20] And then two weeks from that, I get my chest x-ray, my final blood work for the surgery prep. And then that's it. And then it's go time on the 20th. So, you know, so it's getting there. You know, it's home stretch. But I'm definitely paying attention to my body. I'm just like, if it needs a rest, I'm just going to go lay down. You know, it's kind of nice not having control in my hand.

[01:04:49] I've been playing a lot of Magic, MTG. You know, I got worked by a deck the other night that is worse than yours with your counters. Oh, yeah. That's low, low, blow, bro. So... Worse than yours. Yeah. So, I got to come up with a way to stop that. So, anyways, with that, you know, I want to thank everyone for tuning in this week's episode.

[01:05:20] You know, if you like matured, make sure you drop us a follow. You know, we're going to move this back to being a just fully recorded episode. We'll go live for special occasions. But we will be just doing this recorded. So, you know, if you like matured, head over to crashgivenite.com. Find us on the platform of your choice. Drop us a follow there. Drop it on YouTube. But, as always, with everything going on in the world, you know, Jason's sitting there looking like he's completely frozen in time.

[01:05:49] I believe this video is frozen, yeah. It's like I'm having some technical difficulties, too. Jerry said he's having internet issues, so depending on who your service provider is... Both in California, so it's your own fault. You know. Anyways, just be excellent to each other. Jay? Jay Bo! Jay Rock! I think he's gone. I think we might just lost him, too. So... Will you do the honors, Matt?

[01:06:19] Yeah, I will. There he is. I can speak. It's just like my video is frozen. Because you weren't saying anything, sir. Yeah. I gave you, like... I totally gave you, like... Jay Rock! Jay Bo! Jay Bo! Jay Bo! Anyways, guys, you know... Yeah. It's almost May. That's crazy. For those of you that are in Japan, it is literally Golden Week.

[01:06:49] So, you know, hopefully you have a good time out there. Um... Yeah. There's... Jerry's missing again. It's okay. He'll... He'll... He'll miss out on the outro. No last words. The only words you need to hear is this one right here. My man! My man! The Owalski send us out like you do. We'll see you all out there. Thank you for watching. Thanks for listening. Till next time. BTFM. That's happening now.

[01:07:20] Good night, everybody. Bye, everybody.
