[00:00:09] Welcome to Crashing Game Night, my name is Matt Diori, tonight it is me and the legendary one tonight. We're just gonna, I'm gonna give him a really good intro because Jerry decided to be a slacker and have to work tonight.
[00:00:28] Alright, Theo's stuck working so, coming to us live on this recorded session from the great state of California, our maitre d'oeuvres is the man with the couch. The man, the myth, the legend, the lion's mane Jason Belletio. How's it going guys? How's it going? It's a dynamic duo tonight, you know. I know.
[00:00:58] The... See, you like these nights because then you get a... The Rocky and Bullwinkle. The Rocky and Bullwinkle. The Rocky and Bullwinkle. Fuck. Oh. More like the Roadrunner and Coyote. See, you like these because then I get to like give you a good intro. Yeah, well I, you know, and... As long as it's, I like to have some like consistency a little bit, you know. It throws you off. I'm like, yeah, it throws you off a little bit, but...
[00:01:29] Now when you have a good, when you have a good, uh, good consistent intro, you're a guy. Mm-hmm. You know, you don't, you don't change it, you don't switch it up, you know. I know. Just like, just like, uh, what is it, Michael Buffer, you know, just... Every time. Every time it hits. It hits, man. It is. It's Buffer. You know, I am no Buffer. I am no Michael Buffer. I do not pretend to be. I know, but I'm just saying, you know. You know, that man is a legend.
[00:01:59] Oh yeah. So... So how was your week? Awesome. Uh, week's been alright, man. Yeah. Like, uh, nothing too crazy. Just chilling a little bit. Um, yeah. I mean, like, I'm behind on a few chores, but that's okay. Mm-hmm. No, it's alright.
[00:02:22] Yeah, so this will, this will be our last recorded podcast before we return post my surgery. Yeah. And we got a fun sleep to talk about. It'll be a solid minute. But it'll be a good solid minute. But yeah, we're gonna be off the, uh, you know, we're gonna try and return on the second. Um, we've got a guest lined up.
[00:02:45] Um, I think it's gonna really depend on how I feel and when I get out of the hospital. Right? Right on. Um, and then we may have to postpone that, you know, a couple of weeks or whatever. But, um, but yeah, it's been, it's alright. The, uh, I think the emotions, the emotions have finally hit the breaking point where the dams kind of let them all out. Because I think part of it was on Sunday, not only was it Mother's Day.
[00:03:14] So, you know, we all know going back to, you know, lost my mom in 2019. And then I realized my dad was gonna be here this coming Sunday, flying in because he's here for surgery and all that. I'm like, holy shit. Okay. Surgery's here. Like it, this is, it's real now. Like, it's no longer this, hey, in a couple of weeks, this is going down. It's, hey, we are, we're single freaking digits.
[00:03:39] So, you know, after like next week, we're going to do kind of a, just a get together with some former guests. Just do like a kind of an uplifting type, you know, session for me leading into surgery and whatnot. But it's just like, after that, it's like, I'm going to bed and I'm waking up and going to the hospital. Cause I got to be there at 6am for an 8am surgery. Like, oh, it's here. So, uh, so hopefully somebody dropping you off, man.
[00:04:08] No, my dad's, my dad's taking care of all of it. So like my dad's going to be here while I'm in the hospital and he's staying for four weeks after that, because I'm going to be on. And super restriction. Like I won't be able to lift anything greater than five pounds. I won't be able to drive at all. So he's going to be my chauffeur. Um, and then I'm gonna have to live in a, like, they call it living in a tube. So normally you go to like reach out, like over to the side, right? I'm not even gonna be able to do that.
[00:04:37] I'm going to have to go like, like, do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do. You know, it's like, because when you reach out to the side, you don't realize just how much you're using the muscles in your chest. And I'm going to have an incision right down my, you know, my sternum and stuff. So they got to make sure that nothing happens to that.
[00:04:59] So, but you know what I've got tomorrow is my pre-surgery interview with the nurses Thursday. I do my official meet and greet with the, the post-surgery team where they kind of go over everything that I'm going to need to do for post-surgery. Get my chest x-ray, get my blood type done, which we talked about the last week and kind of made fun of Jerry because he likes to pass out when he gets his blood drawn. Um, and that's, and that's it.
[00:05:28] You know, and like, uh, you know, that's okay with Jerry. And I'm for me too. Like I get a little weak, uh, if I just see, if I see the needles injected into me, like the blood drawn, no problem. But like, if I look over and I'm like, there's a needle like in me right now, I'm done. I kind of feel the same way. Cause like I used to be an epileptic when I was a kid.
[00:05:53] So I used to have to go get my blood drawn all the time. And it's just like, I had a nurse that ended up collapsing two of my veins, one with a regular needle, one with a butterfly. And I hated it ever since. And like, so now when they go to even put the needle in, I'm kind of like, not looking, you know, I'll make sure they're checking sites. Like when I went to get my blood drawn back in March now at this point, um, you know,
[00:06:20] they didn't get a good, anything good out of this arm. So they went to go to like, Oh look, we've got some great veins. Like right here. I'm like, no. She's like, why? And I go, because I need good veins for surgery. You can go into this arm, but, uh, but no, it's, it's time. You know, I'm, I'm the last week I've been feeling, I've had a couple of bad days where I've been exhausted. It's just, you're leading into something.
[00:06:47] This is major. Yeah. I mean, as much as this is a dime a dozen, right. It's still open heart surgery. There's still risks to it, but the risks to it don't outweigh the risks. If I don't get this done. Like there's so many complications. So, um, as a treat to myself for the last thing I was going to do for me, because I didn't get to, well, because like Top Gun and Top Gun Maverick, you know, it's the 40th anniversary for Top Gun.
[00:07:15] My all time favorite movie. It gets released in the theaters tomorrow and it's going to be for a week. And I'm like, I got my kids and then I got surgery, so I can't go see it. So I went and saw Mortal Kombat on Saturday.
[00:07:26] Oh, okay. I had a lot of fun with it. I, you know what? It, okay. So the story had some plot holes, much like any other Mortal Kombat movie. Right. But the, the fight sequences were great. Um, the finishers they went with for some of it was great. Um, you know, it was that the violence we expect at a Mortal Kombat and their finishers. Right. Um, they,
[00:07:56] they, they fixed some things that some of us weren't happy with, with the first movie. Um, overall, I had a lot of fun with it though. Like I didn't have any real complaints with it. I enjoyed it. A lot. I think the banter between Kano and Johnny Cage was the best. Carl Bourbon was, I think the right choice for Johnny Cage. Absolutely. He was great. Yeah. So I mean, like what you see him in the boys and he has, he has that, uh, he has that, I guess cockiness.
[00:08:26] That, uh, for lack of better word, douchebag potential, you know? Oh, and that's, that's there like straight up. Um, you know, I think he would have done, he would have made Lyndon Ashby proud. You know, the original Johnny Cage from the original movie back in the nineties. Um, it just, he comes off with more of an edge. And what's funny is, is like in the movie, he goes to like a comic con type thing and he's just sitting there and nobody's coming up to his table.
[00:08:55] And it's like, you go to all those other conventions and you always see one actor that has nobody coming up to their table. Like, and you feel for him, but it's like, yeah. Okay. So, um, should you go see it in the theater? I mean, honestly, I would, if you like going to see the movies in the theater, go see it in the movie theater. It's, it was actually fun. And, you know, my MC, it was only 15 bucks for the ticket.
[00:09:22] So, um, so I went to the matinee essentially. So it was discounted, but definitely worth it. That's cool. So, um, I got new comics in Jason and I actually wrote another, another, another thing for you. Well, and I actually already read them and I wrote a review article for the website, which the last time any of us wrote for the website was the end of 20 years. It's been a while.
[00:09:52] I did not write. I didn't realize I didn't write anything in 25. So that needs to kind of change. But, um, so when we did LA comic-con in 24, um, I went into a podcasting panel. Um, mostly it was because of Andrea Renee, who we all know, like I've talked about, she did, uh, she was the host of what's good games, which, um, was a all female pod, uh, gaming podcast.
[00:10:21] Um, they, they hung that up, um, last summer. No, not 25 summer. So summer. Yeah. Summer 25. Spring of 25 somewhere in there. So anyways, on that though, was, uh, um, Jonathan London, who does Geekscape, who is that, that podcast and everything has been around for ages.
[00:10:47] His rivals that of Danny Pena with Gamertag Radio. Um, anyway, so I've been following him ever since his brother, who used to be an actual WWE wrestler, Paul London, and him have started a comic book. And it is called Paul London, Hero of the Prophecy.
[00:11:09] And it combines fantasy like Willow and Crawl and Beastmaster and everything with pro wrestling. And it was actually, it was actually comical. Okay. Um, go ahead, go ahead. Yeah. I enjoyed it. Like, so you wouldn't, you wouldn't think it's like pro wrestling, right? But like, it even has a line in it that says, you know, this is a work, right?
[00:11:40] Like alluding to that whole, like everybody knows now with the whole, you know, Keith hobby. It is now everybody knows it's, it's so scripted and everything now. Um, but it's basically the premise is, um, in this land, this fantasy land off in the universe, there's a, they believe there's a hero of the prophecy. They get this artifact and with the last little bit of magic left in their world, they activate it.
[00:12:09] But the creature that with the guy from the owl clan is sitting there trying to figure out which guy to grab. And he sees him performing like up on the ropes, trying to dodge like six different people. And he's like, Oh, that guy must be the hero. And some like literally pulls him out of earth and over into their world. Um, it, it was, it had good comical moments. I liked the production value on it.
[00:12:35] Like the paper that they printed on is really, you know, premium paper and whatnot. Um, but for me is like, I've been trying to give it like two comics on anything I'm, I'm reading now, you know, getting into. And it was fun. I plan on picking up, you know, issue three when it comes out because the second issue definitely was better than the first. And you can kind of see them, you know, stretching their legs on that.
[00:13:02] Um, so yeah, it's, it was fun. It was worth picking up. Now I had to pay five, you know, what was it? Five bucks an issue. So. Then they shipped it to me. So it was worth it. But the, um, did a quick, you know, review article on it. Doesn't have any spoilers on it. It's on the website. So you can just go to crashing game night.com.
[00:13:25] Um, it's the latest article on our blog, which is it, which like we said, has it been really written on? I'm not gonna lie. It has been a solid minute. I mean, it's been more than a solid minute since we've had a mobile game Monday review. Oh man. Like, I mean, it was probably when I was still working before Costco. Maybe I guess it's been a good while.
[00:13:50] It had been November 21st of 24 when, uh, it was black Friday for Nintendo. And then before that I did an article for final fantasy seven rebirth in June of 24. So I, I gotta get back to it. I know I do. Um, the last mobile game Monday review we had Jay was April 26th of 2021.
[00:14:20] Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. See, I knew it five years ago, like a little bit before, uh, yep. Like right around the Costco time, I got hired and then. Yep. And you moved on and whatnot. So. Yeah. I mean, but yeah, so, um, but I've already talked to, to Jonathan. Um, once I get out of surgery and start kind of recovering, um, we're going to get him on the podcast so we can talk about him and, and his podcast and covering pop culture for as long as you have. Plus, you know, the comic and whatnot.
[00:14:49] Not, but I enjoyed it. It had a lot of willow inspiration for me, which for me holds a special place because that was the first movie I ever saw in theaters. Willow? It was willow. So as I had gone home to, uh, to visit family the year after we moved from New York to Colorado and my cousin took me, uh, we were, we missed like the first five minutes of the movie, but you know what? I don't care.
[00:15:17] It was great seeing willow on the big screen, you know? So, all right. So with that being said, Jason, since it is just you and I, I am going to let you spin the wheel and decide where we start. Your categories tonight are Sega, Xbox, Star Fox, and PlayStation with AI.
[00:15:45] Let's, let's do Star, Star Fox. Cause I mean, that's, that's a name that we haven't really heard that often. All righty. Well then into the share we go, but yes, we haven't talked Star Fox in like ages. Hey, I'm tired. It's all right, man. I didn't get much sleep last night and that's happening.
[00:16:14] Cause I did find out that one of the things that they can't figure out why is anybody that has a mitral valve prolapse. Like I do, anxiety comes with it and they can't figure out why. And I think that's why I haven't been able to sleep for a while is that there's anxiety. So, so when we look at Nintendo, right? So last week there was some good and there was some bad. So we got the Star Fox news, which is great. But the bad to it is, is that Nintendo announced that September 1st here in the States, they
[00:16:44] are raising the price of the switch to 50 bucks. Unfortunately is because their investors have been putting so much pressure on them that they basically bent the knee. The investors want their money now versus what Nintendo does. So they're raising the price, unfortunately. Um, but they're going to be releasing Star Fox at $50, which is cheaper than everything else. Yeah.
[00:17:09] So what it is, is this is going to be basically, it's a remaster, remaster slash remake of Star Fox 64. Does it really? Yes. Yes. Um, so when you look at the character designs, um, you know, people have been kind of comparing, you know, it is definitely updated. Um, so as you can kind of see, here's like that opening area. Oh, okay.
[00:17:38] It does look, it does look pretty, you know? Yeah. Um, you know, very much for the switch to which it will be an exclusive, but some of the character models, especially like when you look at Falco, because he kind of has lost a lot of what made Falco kind of like impressive, even in the original, um, is that people have thought, Hey, this kind of feels like the original Sonic treatment, right? When they came out with that really bad character design and had a like postpone the movie to redo it.
[00:18:07] Um, I don't know, man. Like sometimes you do have to go through this like little awkward phase, you know, and I get it. People are going to be upset about it. I've personally liked it a little bit, but more like the way that, cause they're actually being a little bit more furry to make it easy base point. They are making a little bit more furry. Like, I mean, Falco in that picture. Yes.
[00:18:35] If you go back one Falco in that like little box caption. Yeah. Oh, it looks terrible. You know, uh, it's a little bit too rounded. He needs to be a little more like, I guess, sharper, like a Falcon. Uh, you know? Yeah. But I mean, like it just needs to be sharper. It's like, and I give it to like a lot of people, you know, Marvel rounded characters,
[00:19:02] DC, like, like the, the shape of them, you know, the art artistry of them rounded characters, DC, sort of more human like, and then you have image, which is like the very sharp, like, like straight lines. And that's what they need to do with Falco. But they need to give them that little bit more straight edge. Yeah. Versus like a little bit rounded. Which, but if you were to get this. He looks a little bit better in the beak and everything.
[00:19:31] Because I guess it was because of a head-on shot. Because like Fox looks fine. Slippy looks fine. You know, like granddad. Peppy. Peppy. Yeah. He looks all right. See, like Slippy looks good in that. So, I mean, the read, the read master slash remake slash reimagining. The R wing looks a lot better. Yeah. It looks a lot.
[00:20:01] It looks a lot cleaner. It definitely needs an update. So it's. You know, when you look at them, like. You can't see that some of the image, like in the trailer and stuff, they put in, like, where you can actually see his, like Star Fox's legs and stuff like that. And that's where kind of the comparisons a little bit. But, you know, we haven't had Star Fox in ages. Yeah. Like. A good Star Fox. A good Star. I mean, the last Star Fox was a Star Fox Adventures on the GameCube. Right?
[00:20:32] No, it was just. I thought, like. I thought there was, like, a one in between. That was for, like, either the Wii U or the Wii. But it was. It was not. It was not. What is it? Star Fox Guard? Okay. Star Fox Adventures. Star Fox Zero or Star Fox Guard. Yeah. Star Fox 2. Oh, Star Fox Assault. That's what it was. On the GameCube. Yeah.
[00:21:00] And then Star Fox Command for the DS. Oh, here you go. Zero. For the Wii. So, it has been a while. Yeah. You know? Yeah, that's what it was. Star Fox Zero. And then you said Star Fox Guard again for the Wii U. And it wasn't really. It wasn't everything that everyone wanted, you know? Mm-hmm. Like. So, you're kind of like.
[00:21:32] Oh, yeah. Because it made the. You had to use the Wii U gamepad and it was gyroscopic. God, that would have driven me crazy with that. Oh. So. So, it's. It's. Not that. So, it does need a reboot. A reboot. Mm-hmm. You know? Hopefully that with this. It's going to be a lot better. It's going to be a little bit more. And I think $50 for a. You know, for a remake.
[00:22:02] It's not bad. You know? Granted, it has been almost. That's for digital. It's for 30 years. You know? Physical is going to be $60. But even then, though. $60. You know? I can remember fondly sitting around with my roommates. And my roommate's friend playing Star Fox 64 multiplayer. Oh, yeah. I mean. I'm having so much fun with that. It's been 25 years since that thing came out. So, you know. You're not.
[00:22:33] People still remember it. Yeah. Now, the question is. How much staying power is it going to be? Is the revenue. Is going to be return on investment going to be there? So they can actually do a full fledged Star Fox sequel? Or is this going to end up dying? Is the question. You know? It's going to have a good following. It's going to have a good. Unless. If they put online battling. To the new Star Fox. Then it would be. It would be. A lot more. It would.
[00:23:02] It would do well. Because. As you remember. So you can see. Here's some of the legs right here, Jason. So you can kind of see. It's like really. Short and stocky. Compared to. As it should be. The rest is body. You know. But yeah. If they put online. Multiplayer. Eight player. Online multiplayer. Would be. That's it. That's it. It would have a lot. Eight player. Yeah. Eight player online. Yep.
[00:23:31] That's what they need to have. Just because. Not a bad file size either. Yeah. 14 gig. The four. The two on two. Back from 64. Was fun. The. And then you. Bring it to a four on four instead. That's when you actually have. Like. Dog fighting.
[00:24:02] Mm-hmm. 12. But you know. Once you get that. Eight or 12. One of the two. Yeah. But you get actual. Like. Dog fighting. Correct. And that's what. That's what people like. When they have these games. Because then. It no longer becomes. It no longer becomes. Like. Point click. Point click. Camp. Do like. Absolutely. And I can. I can. And. Because I've done. More skill. And I've done ace combat. Multiplayer online.
[00:24:32] Yeah. And there are times. Where I have to ditch down. Into the canyon. And see if I can. You know. Lose them. Or. I have to. You know. Duck around a corner. To dodge a missile. Hoping I got. I don't have something else. I'm going to run around. Into. You know. Because a lot of. A lot of. And this is the problem with Nintendo. When I see multiplayer. A lot of their games. Are not. As much skill based. Like. Minus the fighting game. But even still. Like. Mario Kart. It's the.
[00:25:02] Straight. Straight drive simulator. Fighter. You know. As a lot of people like to say. Because. All you're doing is. You're just following. The correct. The. The best line. The best line. For all the racing games. Doesn't matter how good you are. Like. It's just. This is the optimal path. That you have to take. If you miss it. You lose. You know. Correct. This one. This one will. Actually bring out. A lot of competitiveness. Because you have to. Have that skill. In the dog fight. You're not just like.
[00:25:32] Oh. Let me just. Keep looping. Looping. Looping. No. That's not going to do anything. It's going to be. No. Because. It's going to be annoying. But. Like. All you're doing is just loop. Loop. Loop. Do a barrel. Like. Not even. Because that's going to be the time. Where I'm going to be like. If I'm. You know. Say. You and I are. On a team. Right. And. I'm in a dog fight. And somebody keeps doing a loop on me. I'm going to be like. Hey Jay. Swing him behind me. Yeah. Right. And then that's where you get that communication. Like.
[00:26:01] A la like Top Gun. With. You know. Maverick and Iceman. Going. Hey. You know. Drop in. Take him out. And you move on your way. You know. Yep. Because then. So. It only lasts for so long. Before somebody's like. Oh yeah. You can't do anything. Yep. And it is coming out. You know. June 25th. So. You know. For 50 bucks. That's not bad. You know. I did look at. You know. I kind of looked at. What it would cost to get.
[00:26:31] Into a Switch 2 right now. It would still. Run like $800. To do a Pro Controller. Mario Kart. A memory card. And the console. That's a lot. Drop into the system. Yeah. You know. Especially. So that way. I can install all my games. From my Switch. You know. I mean. Could I not go the memory card route. And just. Keep my Switch. Right where it's at. Sure.
[00:27:01] I guess. Yeah. You know. That would save me. A hundred bucks. You know. And I'm only looking at $700. To get into it. But. You know. It's just the initial hit. Like I said. It's just the initial hit. Of. Yeah. Getting the system. And. Like. Well. We got our system. Just by random chance. I was like. Yeah. You know what. I want to buy this system anyway. So. I'm just like. Yeah. And you were debating on selling that too. That was the funny part. You're like.
[00:27:31] Should I sell it? I'm like. Keep it. You know. Yeah. Yeah. So. Running strong. So I'm not even. Do I. Do I. Do I still want to get one? Yeah. But it's not like. A have to have right now. Because right now. Game wise. I don't have to have Mario Kart. Right. And. What you need is. Starf. You need Pogopia. God. Everybody's. On that game right now. Sir. Like. I. I even like. Like.
[00:28:01] Contemplated for a moment. Like. My wife's on it right now. And I've been contemplated. And I was like. Oh my god. I'm going to turn it into Matt. And just like. Start designing. Pokemon homes. And stuff like that. And like. Oh. I gotta. It. Gotta move these. It gets real. It gets real. No. No. No. No. No. It's like. It's like. Honestly. It's like. If Animal Crossing. And Minecraft. Got put together. That's gone. Yep. So like. The right between.
[00:28:31] You and Theo. The right in between. Would be. That's where I'd be at. So like. For me though. Starf. Like right now. If I look at the games. Right. Yes. Everyone says. You know. Pokepeat. Right. But. If I look at. You know. Donkey Kong. Bonanza. Mario Kart. Star Fox. And. Pocopia. Right. For me. Personally. Star Fox. Would be that game. That it's like. God. I don't want to miss out. Doing like dog fights. And everything with people. Like. That would be the one.
[00:29:00] I would be like. Okay. I could potentially. Just go buy the. Switch to. To get Star Fox. And the GameCube. You know. Virtual console. Right. Yeah. So. So. We'll see. Like. I'll reevaluate things after surgery. But I still think this may be. Something I. I wait and get. After. Christmas. Or something. Because here's. I was about to say. Wait till Black Friday. Well.
[00:29:30] But. Rumor. If they. Up the price. Then it's just like. It's an extra 50 bucks. Right. Now. Here's the thing is those. There was a rumor. That. Star Fox was getting a new game. And then we were getting. Ocarina of Time remake. With a. Zelda. Switch 2. Edition. Makes sense. Star Fox is right. So. I'm thinking. Maybe. In June. We get the direct. That says. Here's. Ocarina of Time.
[00:29:59] Coming out for Switch 2. And here's the. The. Special edition. Switch coming out for it. At that point. Right. Jay. Ocarina of Time. Would. Absolutely be. A game. I'd buy the Switch 2 for. Oh. Bro. It's going to be a lot of people. A lot of people. Would just be like. Right up on it. You know. And I think that's. That's the staying power of Ocarina. You know. Yeah. I mean. It's one of the. Like. Like you hear. Like you know. It's one of the. The rare.
[00:30:29] Perfect game. Reviews. You know. Yep. Now the question is. How much do they change it. With the remake. You know. That's the one thing. That a lot of fans are. Are kind of worried about. Is that they go in. And change it. So. Yeah. We'll see what happens. But it's glad. I'm glad to see Star Fox back. You know. As a game I had a blast with. On the 64. Even Star. You know. Star Fox Adventures. I enjoyed. On the cube. You know. So.
[00:31:00] Alrighty sir. On our next. Stop through the. The gaming stratosphere. Do you want to stop with. Xbox. Sega. Or PlayStation. PlayStation. Let's go with. Let's go with. Xbox. Because we. Like. We always. We always talk smack on it. And you know what. But. They've got a lot. They've got a lot going on right now. But. This is the thing though. And. Like. You got to respect. What respect's getting due. Yep. Like. It is.
[00:31:30] It is. Turning around. Slowly. Yep. Slowly. You know. It's not. It's not going to be the overnight success. You know. It's like. They. They messed up a lot. Yes. They did. But. But. Slowly. But surely. They're taking baby steps. To try and make it right. Which is good. Which is fine. And. Asha's doing. But. Doing that job. Let's see what happens. But. You know. Sometimes. You got to bite the bullet a little bit. And.
[00:32:01] Take a giant step. You know. Yep. You can't. You can't just like. Oh let me feel this out. Let me feel this out. No. You're on the clock now. Because. As a lot of us. Like a lot of gamers know. We're coming around that. Quote. Unquote. Like. Next. Next console. Announcement. You know. Quote. Unquote. I really don't think it's going to happen. Not for another like. Few more years. Well. Xbox is.
[00:32:30] Ever happens. Rumor for Xbox was 27. 27. And. Rumor for PlayStation is that. They postponed it from 27 to 28. Because of where we're at with RAM right now. Yeah. Which. And at the same time too. Like. Once. How. How much farther are you going to go? You know. Like. Like. Like. We always say. Any closer and it becomes a PC. And then. At that point too. How much more details and grass do need really.
[00:33:00] Yeah. I mean. At that point. You might as well just make the games like. Choose your own adventure. You know. And actually. You know. Just record the people. You know. Acting. Out the scenes. You know. Yeah. You. You are literally at that point. And. It's. I get it. You. They're trying to work with AI now. They're trying to get like. More. Into the. Like. The AI. Rendering of everything. So it looks a lot more human like. But. You know. Some people.
[00:33:30] Don't. Care for that. Like. Some people just want the quality of the game. You know. We have. There's a lot of games that are. Not. Of that caliber. That everybody loves. To. To dear lord. You know. Like. Now. We're not looking for. We're not looking for the most realistic. I. VR. But not in VR. VR. Experience. You know. Like. Mm-hmm. It's. Yeah. So.
[00:34:01] The first. Little bit of news came out. Is it. A new sweepstakes to the running. In conjunction with Forza Horizon 6. Which is. I'd say. On the horizon. Coming. To come out. Um. But. Sun Kang. Who we all know as Han. From Fast and the Furious. Uh. He's a massive. Car guy. Even though. He drives a minivan. For a daily. Which is hilarious. Um. They've created. Uh. A couple of jackets. Plus. They're going to. Um.
[00:34:33] Put in. And. You know. What's funny is. His little pretzel snacks. From. Um. In this little snack mix. From Fast and the Furious. In the picture. But. Um. You know. They're going to be doing. Uh. The two different. Uh. Jackets. And you're going to be able to. Chance to win the car. So. Um. You know. You just got to go in. And. To become a part of it. Follow Xbox. On Instagram. Comment.
[00:35:03] On the official. Sweepstakes post. With. Sun Kang. Uh. F. H. Six. Sweepstakes. To be entered. So. Yeah. I mean. Jackets. Not bad. You know. I kind of dig it. But. You know. What's the worst that happens? You don't win anything? Yeah. Yeah. I think it's just to see. What. How much hype. This is like. Like a. One of those. Let's see how much hype.
[00:35:33] We have for it. I think. Six. Is. Gonna be. Big. Big. Just because it goes back to. They're taking it to Japan. Right. Which is where a lot of this. It's still Forza though man. Like. Mm-hmm. Remember. It's still Forza. Correct. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It.
[00:36:03] It. It. It. It. like a little bit more realism but still maintain that like what we love need for speed not direct yeah not direct circle racing not circuit not circuit point a to point b trying to get around
[00:36:29] the cops find find find a pickup race out of nowhere you know like that's that's all they need and they need to just re up it make it a lot better we'll add traffic yeah actual well i mean zone for speed all of those you know undercover or sorry underground one and two you know you had a
[00:36:55] lot of the adding in the cars getting around them and stuff like that but i think and that made it fun i think they went oh hell i think they went too far off the formula trying to become newer and it just tanked the series but it would be great to see need for speed come back so um with that um xbox announced yesterday that they're doing a partnership with discord nitro um so anybody
[00:37:19] with a Discord Nitro is going to be getting a Game Pass Starter um along with it um but on the flip side though anybody who has game pass is going to be getting a subscription to discord nitro as part of that um benefits include 250 discount orbs each month 1.2 times extra orbs for completing quests
[00:37:48] and then automatically applies shop discounts and stuff like that so i'm not sure really what all discard nitro does but it you know the fact that they're partnering with discord is big yeah sure you know they need something like that for their for their side um so they're gonna enable like live streaming directly to your discord friends so i think it'd be nice to be able to open
[00:38:17] that up so you can just they can just live stream you know um but you know it's not bad but you know the the starter pass that's going to come with for those folks that are on discord nitro they'll get game pass starter which is like 50 kind of ish games it's kind of like the very very
[00:38:35] basic tier of xbox game pass um so when you look at their announcement um game pass you know include with nitro so you get that piece um are they gonna do the reverse side of it and show it is the question yeah see they're not even talking about the the starter pass that the discord people
[00:39:03] will get to for having it so um so we'll see where that partnership goes um and then we got the announcement that and this is what makes me kind of really sad right to really think about this in perspective is that we were last at e3 june of 2019 and xbox was always you know that one that really kind of went on sundays and started and started and started and started that kicked off e3 week
[00:39:33] so every time we get another one of these showcases the start of june that sunday in june like it it kind of gives me like little sad like reminders of what e3 was um and what it could be so xbox will be doing their showcase on june 7th which would have been the start of e3 week had they actually still been around um and then they're going to do an e-day uh direct for gears of war
[00:40:00] which they've been working on the new gears of war uh for zero and whatnot so or zero day whatever they want to call it e-day um and then they're also going to bring back xbox fan fest as well so i think this is also kind of like bringing back fan fest is something that the xbox fans have wanted um they need and they need you know and i i really think you know i look at it because i've got
[00:40:26] the the playstation experience banner above my desk the 2016 one and i think even playstation needs something like that like we need something like pax is great and all but we need something that celebrates each of the ecosystems right xbox getting their their fan fest back playstation kind of doing their same thing but you know with it with it being online now it's kind of like we'll talk about ai here in a few but it's like we miss that human interaction like and i i don't our
[00:40:55] our podcast wouldn't exist had there not been that human interaction right going all the way back to you know this we talk about this all the time disney infinity but then also the guests that we've met and had on the show a lot of we met because of e3 you know especially like john right john eric bangley happened to be in the demo for final fantasy 7 in the group that i was in struck up a conversation
[00:41:22] and we started talking right from there you know and now now look at where everything is you know so um good for good for xbox um it's still a little you know still a little sad though that e3 kind of went that way but we saw we saw the writing on the wall though the years preceding you know 19 you know
[00:41:47] i mean it's once once it went public um it wasn't that wasn't the downfall the downfall was the amount of uh how intense the uh people were waiting for things um you know it was it was no longer a let's check this out it was more of a uh and that was thinking to your point years passed we didn't
[00:42:16] have to wait the amount of you would go there you would actually talk to them you would have the back and forth rather than the last few years of the e3 where it's just like all right next next you know not even like oh hey how do you like the game what do you think no it's just next next the only things the only people that did do that was in the row was the development corner because they actually need
[00:42:44] they wanted and looked at that and i will say that when you look at it like when we did cyberpunk i think you were still over at final fantasy but when we did cyberpunk theo and probably and jerry and i right is being able to stop and talk to the dev team which i love doing that like yeah because they're putting their bloodsland tears in it exactly like they want it they appreciate like me being
[00:43:10] able to talk to the team at ready at dawn when they did uh the order you know 1866 um you know being able to talk to them like being able to talk to the dev team from naughty dog when they were presenting um uncharted 4 you know which god they reminded everybody this week that it's the 10th anniversary of uncharted 4 being launched like how is it already 10 years for that game
[00:43:39] you know so you know we need to get back to you you know something like an e3 but um that being said i feel that it can still be a thing and the the difference is though is that with the new climate of like how people are i'm not gonna lie they need to make it private again um but make it a trade show
[00:44:09] no not as much trade show make it a uh influencer show so if you hear me out on this you're you're you're you're shaking your head no no i was kind of like i was like okay bouncing it back and forth bouncing it back and forth not the not the no i was like what before when we're younger e3 pretty much was the what is behind closed doors thing yes you know uh what's the new tech what's the new game
[00:44:38] what does it look like how does that feel nowadays because there's not that many things that there's no that's not gate kept that well you know what society has done lately is they have brought in a bunch of influencers and social media lights to become the new uh for lack of better word young
[00:45:07] press you know the young news the young press uh the under 18s that don't have the ability to drive that don't have the ability to save up and get the money for so what do they look at they look at the influences look at oh how many millions of views do you have of this how does that coincide
[00:45:28] with e3 well what you do is you put it back to the the um the industry people and then you just invite certain like a certain like a like the influencer status yeah that's it you you close it off against the public but you give them uh a one day a one day uh embargo you know so just like how we said
[00:45:56] before hell hey one day should just be media only you know and then you have the then you have the open public well you could do the same thing for e3 extend it one more day maybe and then you just say hey day one is just for industry and media industry yeah industry media yeah then you have day two
[00:46:22] which you invite all the influencers and they get to see oh you have to check out this you have to check that you have to check this out because then once you open up to the public they already have an idea of what's going on what's happening i mean not gonna lie like e3 2014 which was our first one that we all met up at is you know being able to touch the ps4 for the first time you know it was immediately
[00:46:51] like i got back from that show and went and bought one you know but that's what the influencers lie now nowadays like somebody buys a let's a random thing let's say a tamagotchi you know just a random item if an influencer buys a tamagotchi does the sale of tamagotchi go up
[00:47:17] yeah because a lot of people are like oh check out so-and-so's using this or so-and-so is playing this now so it has that little cloud where you're like oh you know what i want to get that too so i mean they they honestly need to bring it back to being like a trade show bring it back to just
[00:47:42] behind closed doors if they want to make it public make it public for half the time you know not the not the entire time because then you don't have this massive you can sit for a second you can enjoy the the spot yeah all right you can talk to people yep which is that's how we all met but i mean that all right and then xbox playstation nintendo having their own little conventions that makes it
[00:48:12] is the same way so that's public open speaking of playstation their ceo um end of last week came out and said that ai is a powerful tool that they want to use to make playstation the best you know that kind of really make it the best place to play which has been their motto for ages now um but one
[00:48:38] of the things that i i thought was really interesting and i think wesley from game informer really touched us on this great is hiroki um machina who's the ceo of playstation interactive entertainment and and you know playstation or sony interactive entertainment and playstation is that um when he was asked about ai leading to layoffs which we've seen a lot of that
[00:49:02] hiroki said human creativity must remain at the center and he said ai is a powerful tool but not a replacement for artists or creators and i thought that was really interesting because that's the first time we've really heard anybody say hey we want ai to be an asset to be used
[00:49:24] instead of replacing developers i still don't want ai in my gaming but i think that's inevitable at this point kind of knowing a game was made with ai is that going to stop you from playing it
[00:49:44] nope it not at all and for my take and this is just me unfortunately we don't have the other guys me with ai not ai if it's a good game i don't care you know um that hands down but what i do feel
[00:50:07] is going to happen is that with ai happening you're going to have instead of a 20 man uh project or a 20 man team for like art is always going to be the one that's front facing instead of having like let's say a team of five doing environment you're only going to have a team of two uh yes it'll lead to
[00:50:33] layoffs it's going to lead to a lot smaller um a lot smaller uh groups but sometimes i'm not gonna lie you don't want to put too many hands in like you don't need that many cooks in the kitchen i've never been on that side you know like i can't i can't say that's like that's true
[00:50:58] i haven't been on that side where like they do have a bunch of people working on like a bunch of backgrounds a bunch of whatever rendering item rendering so here's a you know stuff like that talking about that um they're talking about the their generative ai engine mockingbird and that it quickly animates 3d facial models based on the the performance captures
[00:51:25] and that naughty dog is using it to make intergalactic from what we saw in that trailer yeah i couldn't have told i i could not have told you that was using ai yeah that looks like classic that's what i'm saying you're you're going to get instead of a 20 man team down in half
[00:51:50] maybe even a third just because you don't have that many people sticking their hands in the pot um so in one essence in my mind in one essence you're going to have a lot more tight knit like artistry tight knit because if you use ai as a like as an assistant as a tool correct you're pretty much
[00:52:19] you're going to draw you're going to draw your like i'm going to draw matt and then have matt the whole character like 3d model of matt as me the developer yep then i want to throw that file in the ai let it load up let it let it get every inch and and part and then say ai have matt say
[00:52:49] these lines and you know they're going to watch it and then they're going to say okay well we need to fix some facial structure some like you know have matt say oh wow surprised and then like oh like you know they're they're going to fix to see where they want to and to your point right add that
[00:53:13] to them and then again this is still just one person that's doing one character for example so instead of 10 people having to get together it's just one person like and to your point right on it they're saying with mockingbird animation work that would have taken hours can now be completed in a fraction of a second because they're basically they're not replacing human performers or anything
[00:53:38] they're just basically they're taking speed video and optimizing it speed so you know they've invested a lot into it we'll see where it goes you know but i think as long as ai is being used as in a like a kind of like an assistant you know it's just an add-on to help help your job you know i think that's what ai's next steps are like a lot of people are just trying to make it do what people do and i don't
[00:54:03] think you can do it you know we've already seen where some studios have tried to do a game completely generated with an and it fails so now i mean you have to have like like nishino says you need to have that human just to correct it to see it because yeah like they have the ais making like stories and stuff like that but you still need to guide it in the way you want it to be done and that's what the
[00:54:33] human part is it's not it's not like a random person being oh yeah that looks good send it no these have been people that have been in the industry that they know exactly what they're doing what they need to do they're not like before they they didn't have shortcuts but now here's some shortcuts that they can use that completely will alleviate a lot of stress that they have you know like oh we need to
[00:55:00] make this deadline we need to make this deadline think about think about if cyberpunk the first iteration of cyber the first iteration the first iteration of cyber if that was done with ai would it have been delayed it should have been delayed well i mean like
[00:55:24] because it was buggy it was like it was graphically bad the only reason they even released it was because the investors exactly but if they had ai would have been as buggy would have been as graphically bad would have been so so i can't throw it against like i need to throw this against the wall kind of thing i think you would have had it be where it was you're getting down you would have time right the ai would
[00:55:52] have been helping render the game and you have somebody human be able to go in and check things after it's already rendered it and then that would have sped up the process took some crunch time off of them um you know all sorts of things now that being said let's talk about mistakes and we're going to close out tonight with a company that is known for making the biggest blunder in e3 history which was sega
[00:56:23] we all know the the infamous story you know when you know when dreamcast launched the console into stores on the same exact day at e3 during their presser they said hey by the way here's our new console it's called the dreamcast you know so it was already sitting on shelves nobody knew about it you know and it ended up costing sega to the point where they no longer made consoles it costed sega
[00:56:51] sega for the for the lack of better terms it costed sega sega was and i'm not gonna lie i had a dreamcast that thing was amazing it was ahead of it so much it was so much potential it was too ahead of its time that's what was wrong with it it was too ahead of its time oh i remember remember the the memory
[00:57:14] cards having the little the tamagotchis in them oh dude um virtual memory cards freaking i played you only had it one time with the pocket station not and that never came to us i played star lancer like crazy on that thing bro and that's a memory card and you had a virtual memory card you can play the games that like they would have like the little mini games of the games that you had on there
[00:57:40] correct okay and if you plugged it back in you would get bonus like that was i guess the first quote unquote amiibo for you guys out there if you want to if you want to make a make a if you don't know what that is the dreamcast the vmu's god i'd still like the quote unquote first amiibo man you just plug it in you would take it out you would dude you had a little thing you had 2k which was the competitor to madden and and all of that you had power stone you had
[00:58:10] soul caliber like there were so many great games on the dreamcast and you would play little mini games on the vmu's man and not gonna lie that pack-in disc that it came with including um shining force on it was just great you know but so sega a couple of things so they they announced that they're they killed off
[00:58:35] a 882 million dollar project that's been in development since 2001 um but they kind of laid out their schedule and their financial meeting and stuff like that and this is where i kind of want to talk to you about so you you know with as much as you love sega and go back with it so so let's so let's look at sega so they've got in winter they've got stranger than heaven you've got persona 4 revival tbd
[00:59:06] new warhammer 40 000 tbd um medieval so the ones i'm more interested in your opinion right is because we haven't seen these in ages which is virtual fighter crazy taxi yep golden axe jet set radio oh god and streets of rage now there's been spiritual successors to some of these yep a lot of them actually but um here's my
[00:59:34] thing is i virtual fighter i virtual fighter would make it in this day and age now it would that's that's the sad thing virtual fighter would make it in this day and age uh i think it was it was it's just like any other uh it was a pre pre-dated uh soul caliber in the in the horizontal movement
[00:59:57] uh it was right there with tekken um and it wasn't it wasn't so much virtual fighter in the arcade yeah because because the characters didn't there were people yeah it was the dc of the fighting game like pretty much game you know um because you have you had you had marvel which is the let's go
[01:00:24] crazy and infinite combos and combos up the wazoo you had street fighter which is the tried and true you had tekken which is like your secondary you had moral combat was going for violence virtual fighter was the dc it was just two people fighting polygons fighting fighting polygons
[01:00:50] now let me ask this so when you look at the rest of them crazy taxi gold max jet set radio streets of rage which of those four do you think could potentially succeed how they now now uh two of them okay jet jet jet radio and streets of rage those would be my two because jet set radio has had
[01:01:14] it is one of those fan bases that has stood the test of time it is it and if you if you've never played jet set radio please i played a little bit i sucked at it but i yeah i enjoyed what it was you know not not jet set radio future but jet set radio the original one what made it so fun is because
[01:01:37] the quote-unquote mini game and they have it actually in uh that spiritual successor uh bomb rush yep bomb rush something it was a it was a playstation plus free game by the way um pretty much it's you have to spray paint um spray paint the places and there would be times when
[01:02:05] you could have a spray paint war it's it's bomb rush something yeah bomb rush cyber funk yes that's what it is um but came out in 23 yeah and it was a playstation like i said it was the playstation plus free game um but it you had mini games where it wasn't even a mini game it was just you go around you have to
[01:02:29] collect paint you spray paint with like you have to do your little um patterns that you have to do and then you go on to the next one and you don't get caught by the cops that's it that was as basic it was easy you could turn that into a new game now uh you can have it be a worldwide kind of thing
[01:02:52] where you know um just like how they have like the best way i can put it is um how was that shooter god i was playing so much um counter strike no it was uh god i forget what it is off the top of my head but there's there's three there's three uh factions and it's it's a worldwide
[01:03:21] game where you just like okay you go try and dominate the zones and then there's going to be pushback because you know everybody's on different different uh sides and it's just constant uh you know constant graffiti battle that would be that would be so much fun because then you just hop on play for a few hours control zone or if you're like uh a guild or something like that you control
[01:03:46] one zone that's your home turf that'd be like sick now i think streets of rage because you saw the revival of like double dragon and stuff like that i think it's gonna do great i i do think though when you look at crazy taxi and golden axe i think more golden axe than crazy tax is the time is we're so far beyond golden axe and what made golden axe special back in the genesis days that
[01:04:13] to try and come up with something now it you might as well just have it as a new ip at this point uh just the thing i don't i think golden axe and streets of rage they're both very similar in game style gameplay i think what they need to do is that they need to have it as uh
[01:04:38] look up look up a different one look up a different game for you mean right well i want to see when last golden axe came out right it's when we're kind of looking at like star fox and stuff so golden asks beast rider right they tried to back in 2008 on the ps3 and the 360 it's the last time we've had anything golden axe related yeah that's yeah but look up look up um the the arcade dungeons and
[01:05:08] dragons i forget what it's called uh the game yeah dungeon dragons game uh yeah shadow of my story my story that's what they need to turn it into right now if they do come out with the golden axe or a uh streets of rage because that game it had a um it had a menu in the game so while you're playing
[01:05:36] you you're you can go into your mem uh your menu and select like a potion or select a magic spell or whatever you need to select and then you would be able to use that and keep going does it does the scale need to the difficulty scale need to ramp yes you know it's a different age different day and age
[01:06:01] but did they have did they pass the the time for crazy taxi or do you think that could potentially make a comeback no it's actually done it was a good game it was a good game to have in the arcades because it was it was you know get you going but as a game game nah like you yeah you're gonna spend
[01:06:27] you're gonna spend one hour on it and be like i'm done i'm good you know if it was an arcade game sure different different story but not as a game game like and again those other three they are online like playable you know how fun would it be to have like you know for example how fun would it be to have teenage mutant ninja turtles all four of us playing on the switch you know right so how much
[01:06:57] would that be because then you don't even have to you don't have to like you just sit down you're like yo bro let's go and then just beat the game or have like a certain amount of credits that you have to use credits little coins the coin counter so i'd say for our listeners you know make sure to go on when we post the the youtube video and even the the audio this weekend like leave those comments because i'd love to see what you guys think you know as far as those games have we missed have we
